    Thanks for the review. I have been using this one for over 5 years and still in play. Never had it go for a swim either. My go-to keyboard. I have covered it with stickers but nonetheless, the absolute best in my book. The feel is second to none I have ever tried. I have so so so many tech things and a lot of keyboards. This by far is also my favorite. Thanks for the review.

    I love this keyboard. I've been using this model for years to code and must have bought 5 or 6 (one for home, one for office, some destroyed through spillages, some for backup). It has a really light touch, the low profile is great and the layout is, for me, pretty 'standard'. Thanks for sharing.

      Same here, been using it daily for years. Some keys started to fail and letters where fading from heavy use. Stupidly I decided to try something else... Man.. I really miss the K740... But, the Logi MX is out now, it looks similar to the K740 but it has way more options like switching between devices and optional wireless. Think i'm gonna try that one.

    This keyboard is really great indeed. Very quiet, great typing experience. For me, it's got the perfect tactile feedback, key force, travel distance and key spacing.
    I have been using it both at work (coding) and at home for like 8 years and they do last with good care.
    I have sometimes opened mines up for a good dusting/cleaning and they are good for a few more years.
    Recently I have been trying other keyboards, including mechanical ones, to see if I can find something wireless and even better but I keep coming back to this one.
    Seeing how Logitech keeps this product unchanged for so long (12 years?), it must sell quite well. Best kept secret!

    I'm on my third Logitech k740. last one the spacebar gave out after my son used it for gaming for a few yrs. and the one before that my son was little & popped off a few keys. I bought it because it's a scissor switch keyboard so it's supposed to be quiet. The one I bought yesterday which I'm using now, for some reason isn't as quiet & is slightly clanky, not as soft when the keys bottom out, not sure if they changed something. I heard there's ways to make it quieter but not sure if I need to look into it & trying to remove scissor switch keys & replace them isn't easy. . but it's definitely quieter than a mechanical keyboard & finding a scissor switch that lights up is difficult where I live.

    Hi Isaac, I watched your dell KM717 in which you shower it with praise. Which of these 2 will you recommend for someone looking for that soft, tiny travel, effortless laptop-style typing? I imagine this k740 has a longer key-travel when compared to the dell right? Also, how is the spacebar of this Logitech, soft or noise/stubborn to register keystroke?

    Solid review, I agree about this one completely. I’ve probably tried 10-15 different keyboards in the 4 years I’ve been in the adult working world (always just used the laptop keyboard from college and all prior years). Multiple mechanicals (including the latest Logitech K845 with cherry blues), Microsoft ergonomic, das, Logitech mx keys, Apple wired, Apple magic w/keypad, and a few generic mouse/keyboard Logitech combos. Finally decided I wanted something wired + illuminated and this was basically all Logitech offered besides the K845 mechanical. Absolutely love it, a year later I’m buying two more; one for my home windows setup and one for my iMac. It claims to not support Mac but I tested it and everything worked including volume and screen brightness. All I had to do was calibrate what was next to each shift button and it was good to go. Literally could not ask for more from a keyboard, I’ll keep buying these as long as they’re available. I hope their low popularity doesn’t get them discontinued eventually.
    The only downside to this keyboard is that it took me so long to find it, I have probably 11 keyboards in my closet collecting dust, lol.

    Been using this keyboard since its release for everything... work, and intense gaming. I've tried other keyboards, and none have swayed me, I've always come back to this. I have like a stack of 5 in my supply closet D;
    I've even spilled some water on this current one that I'm typing on, expecting to have to pull a new one out, but it didn't affect it D; I remember one time (maybe 8 yrs ago?) same thing happened and some of the keys died. Not sure if they worked on that over the years, but it seems like it.
    The only thing is I wish they made a wireless version (not k800), but don't change anything else.
    Also wish the F keys were lit.

    I think I have this one. There's no "K740" anywhere on it. On the back side, it says Model Name Y-UY95. The wrist rest just holds dust like crazy and doesn't just wipe away. Had mine for more than 7 years. The keys don't light up as bright as they used to. Looks like the keys that get used the most are dimmer. I was thinking of getting the wireless K800 But I feel a wired keyboard would have more power for the backlight. I'll probably try the K800 anyway. The keys did seem brighter than the 740's even when the 740 was new. I just don't care for the way the light goes out on the K800 after a few seconds of not typing.

    I still use the old model Y-UY95, which physically looks exactly the same. I bought it in 2007, that means it is 15 years old!!! It did several movings with me from different cities and even different countries, and right now is the one I'm writing with. It's sooooooo durable, silent, and comfortable to write as the keys are super slim. Just the backlight started not to be as powerful as it was when was new, but that's it. I'm planning to buy the K740 at some point, or a new model if this guy survives to the next generation. :D
    Yes, it is not waterproof, but to sort the problem of the food that could drop inside, keep in mind that it is possible to remove the keys. Just be very careful, watch video tutorials before doing anything, and don't lose any little parts, as under each key are two small white plastic parts that need to be in a specific position, and without them, the key doesn't stand up. Also, it's possible to buy spare keys on eBay or other websites. :)
    I definitely love this keyboard, I spent my life pressing those keys, and apart from the monitors, this guy is the one I see the most. :P
    Its companion is the Logitech G3 Laser Mouse, super comfortable and with a good quantity of buttons to help you do whatever you want.

    This keyboard is well worth the price at $59 now. It is easy to type on. It is very smooth. It doesn't feel cheap. The keys light up, not that backlit illuminated crap where the keys are difficult to read. You can chose how bright you want them or not at all and you can still read the keys easily when it is not on, provided you have a decent overhead lamp. Plus it is a nice white, not all those useless colors. It is relatively quiet too. It has some click but too much. Great keyboard.

    Mine broke after 6 years of above-average use, pretty sturdy for what it went through with me. Then, I tried using a mechanical keyboard. About 5 months in, I begin to experience pain in my wrists. So I searched for the thinnest mechanical keyboard out there but guess what, nothing comes close to this ~9mm masterpiece. I'm on my 3rd or 4th K740. For programming and writing a lot, there is no other keyboard I have found that feels as good. BUT it has one huge drawback. The key mechanism is fragile. After a few hundred or so hours of use or a heavy bump, a key will come loose, and in trying to reattach it, I will usually screw up and break a tab on the delicate scissors mechanism or on the underside of the key. Getting a new key is too expensive, so I'll buy a new keyboard. It FINALLY occurred to me to harvest the keys from my last K740 and save them for when a key goes out on my new one. One other thing, the wrist pad coating is really nice - - while it lasts. I spilled some wine on a year old K740 and it turned to sticky gunk. If that happens, buy some thin rubber sheet and glue it on it. Lastly, be careful with the thin USB cord. I lost one K740 for that reason.

    Great keyboard but as reviewer says DO NOT eat anything near this keyboard because dirt, dust, fruit juices etc get down between the keys pretty easily. I would eat melon while reading on computer and the keys would just get wrecked. Things like barbecue chicken might be finger lickin good but this keyboard will not take well to such meals. Vaccuming and air blasting keys don't always work too well. Its hard to rescue the board once its been slopped-up. A spilled soda or coffee on keys is almost certain death. Put some plastic over keys if you eat next to it. I would also advise keeping keyboard covered when not in use. If gaming, do not rage quit or anything on this board because keys can pop-off or break. I've owned 4 or 5 of these and can only keep them going clean for 3 years or so. But its the only keyboard my fat fingers can handle

    I'm typing on this keyboard that I've owned for over 5 years now. It's definitely one of the better keyboards I've owned but I have a few complaints about it. One, the keys have become too slick and it's more difficult to type on now than when it was newer. Second, I find that the pressure needed per key is a little too much again slowing down typing. Other than those two complaints, it's a great keyboard. Almost silent.

    The silicone texture on the palm rest is already gone from use, but I've had the keyboard now for 10 years without any relevant issue. d now I realise what a good buy I made. The volume and light buttons are a plus. I'm already worried of what would I get if this keyboard dies suddenly.

    Maybe Logitech made some changes, or maybe y'all getting five and six years out of these things don't type much, but I'm on my fourth unit, and on each, the E, T, and (to a lesser degree) the R keys all wear through, and the letters become unreadable. There's also an area worn through on the spacebar. Logitech no longer makes this keyboard, nor do they supply replacement keycaps, si I've moved to a G513. WAY more keyboard than I need, and not as nice as the K740, but the only one I could find in the layout I wanted with textile keys. This one is much louder, though, than the K740, so I'm thinking about trading for one with Linear keys. The K740 was a perfect keyboard IMO, except for the wear-through issue.

    • @IBKade
      @IBKade  2 роки тому +1

      I love the k740 and I see why so many do. I do type daily for work and have used this keyboard solely but so far no wear. I honestly think everyone is so different in how they type and the force they use plus the oils in our hands and these things cause same keyboards to wear out faster. Or it could be a faulty unit as well. So many variables. Thanks for your comment sir!

    The K740 is the best keyboard that I've ever used. It's keys are easy on the hands...and that's important if you're writing all day long. Cheap mechanical keyboards tend to make my finger joints hurt. I first noticed this years ago when I was buying cheap mechanical keyboards. The cure was a better keyboard.
    Definitely get a backlit keyboard. You'll thank yourself many times over. You don't need to reduce the ambient light much to be blinded by your display brightness to the point of hunting for a particular key combination...and I'm a touch typist. So, normally, you'd think reduced lighting wouldn't cause any issues...but you'd be wrong. Be especially careful to buy a laptop with a lighted keyboard. I'll never buy another one that doesn't have a lighted keyboard, even to the point of buying a second or third tier processor.
    Yes, you can break the K740...it's not a mechanical keyboard...it's not meant for you to bang on the keys. I've seen guys at work literally punch the keys with enough force to drive nails. No, this keyboard will not stand up to that kind of usage. So, beware.

    • @IBKade
      @IBKade  3 роки тому

      This is simply what I believe as well and why I made this video. The K740 is a legend and nothing in the market is similar to typing on it especially for office work. Once you know, you flow.
      I just wish Logitech made an exact same replica with wireless, but that won't probably happen. And the backlit makes it double great. Take care of yours and it'll take care of you. You do need to be gentle with it.

      @@IBKade I was surprised by that too but the K740 is actually closer to mechanical switches in terms of travel distance. It is a very comfortable travel distance. When trying different keyboards after using the K740 for years, I find it more difficult to adjust to the shallower switches (like the MX keys and low profile mechanicals) than the regular mechanical ones (usually 4mm, some 3.6-3.7mm).
