I'm a transport entrepreneur from Indonesia. Of the 3000 truck units I've, 200 use the TATA brand. Everything contains coal, besides trucks from Japan and Europe. It's just that TATA trucks in Indonesia use Cummins engines, Zf and Eaton gears. Don't have as many wheels as in India, the cabin is more luxurious and the panel is more complete.

Tatas are still using 5.9L (6BT)block from Cummins, this was first used in the early 80s. Inspite of tinkering with the block and head , this engine is pure crap. All other Cummins users have moved away from this old block and uses 6.7L block/engine with various states of tune for medium weight applications. Dodge Ram uses 6.7L engine , this is a medium weight pick up truck in US. Tatas are trying to extract 230 HP from this old block , no wonder there are lot of engine issues with these Cummins powered trucks. Tatas should do more work on engine development,go with their own design , a bigger capacity block will result in a understressed design improving engine life and reliability. It will also help scale up to higher HP when the application calls for it.Btw 230 BHP and 81 KGM of power and torque for 49 ton GVW vehicle is a joke.
raj m very much agree with you. I drive sometimes 12 wheeler truck, which has 380 HP and 1460 NM torque and 9.7 litre engine. It’s China manufactured truck, of course European truck are better but this one is simple. We drive mostly in mountain areas and I just wonder how this TAta trucks cope when going uphill, 5.9 litres is a very small displacement for such a big truck.

Well if you'd know something about trucking, its actually the torque that matters more here, the higher the torque output is the better the performance of the truck would be wrt the load.

4923 is good but 4823 beat this truck .. tata introduces same everything ..1.5 gvw extra and 1 axle extra..
Great quality cabin. Tata is caring for drivers. Ashok Leyland in its Captain series except it's drivers to sleep outside.
