Hello everybody! I'm Lily and my channel Lily Rose is mostly about DIY and nail art. I like to create videos with love and share amazing craft projects or easy nail designs for you to recreate at home!
As you might know if you follow me, I love nail art! But, I'm terrible at it 😂 So, I normally always look for little hacks and tricks to get really cool designs without, well, any real talent like many nail artists.
I discovered a new nail hack that I’m obsessed with: making your own nail decals or nail wraps with washi tape! Yes, this is nothing new, it has been around, but I never really gave it any real thought until I recently tried it and saw how amazing this trick really is. You can actually see this in one of my recent videos, where I put it only on one nail to see how long it would last, and I kid you not, one week later it was still on my nail! The edges were a bit rougher, but just as it would be with bought nail wraps. Plus I will show you in this tutorial what to do to make them last longer. Honestly, to me, this is the ultimate money saving tip when it comes to nails!

I really liked painting out my nails but that’s a mortal sin now that I took up nursing. Even if I’m still a student, they wouldn’t allw you to paint your nails. I’m now missing my painted nails but this idea gives me hope as it look so cute and easy to do (for probably Saturdays and sundays) but I can easily take it off my fingernails. 💕

Could your natural nails be any more perfect? Btw, how do you remove the tape? Do you just remove the top coat with nail polish remover and then pull the tape off?
Omg! Thank you so much 😍 Yes! Sometimes the tape also comes off alone, but most of the time I simply peel it off once the topcoat is gone 🙂
I think rather than cut it perfect, out of sheer laziness and not wanting to get anxious, I’d file it on the sides too. Lmbo

I really want to try this because I have no talent with nail art at all! BUT, the 15mm wide tape I have just barely covers my thumb nail so I don't know if it would look that good. Any ideas? I know they make wider tape, but I don't have any of it yet.

I’ve been doin g this for a while now and I always had a couple of problems. Firstly putting the tape on dry nails never sticks for me, I have to use a wet base coat to get it to stick. And secondly, I have to restock it down nearly every day. Do you have any advice for these issues?
Did you have that issue with different washi tapes? Or where they all from the same brand? All the washi tape I used always sticked super well (sometimes too well) to the nails. However, I did have a problem with some glitter washi tape, no matter how I tried it, it wouldn't stick (that one was from flying tiger). All the other ones worked great. In case it is from the same brand, maybe try some different one? 🤔
About the washi tape popping up, this could be due to the washi tape, since you said it wouldn't really stick to the nail. But, if that's not the issue, doing that sandwiching that I mention in the video does the trick 😀 Basically you want to make the washi tape slightly smaller, so there is a bit of bare nail on the sides. When you use the topcoat (make it a thicker one in case you have this issue a lot), go over the whole washi tape and also that bit of bare nail on the sides. This creates this protective layer of nail polish over the edges, and they won't stick up 😃

I’ve used lots of different brands, and I also have the exact same tape that you used in the video but I haven’t tried it on my nails yet, I’ll give that one a ago and see how it works haha. Also I’ll try that slight smaller than the nail sandwich thing next time too! Thanks

Use a hair dryer once you apply it. That will cause the adhesive to get more sticky and it shouldn't peel up.

How do you stop the washi tape from wrinkling due to the curvature of the nail bed?
My nails are pretty flat, so I am a bit more lucky regarding that. But once you have your topcoat on, it should keep everything in place!

I tried out these nails, but the washi tape didn't go on smooth like yours did. How can I fix this? (I would put a picture, but I can't)

Lily Rose They had air bubbles on the side of the nail, and I couldn't smooth them out. I think maybe my nails are too curved
@@sage8 Hm... my nails are also pretty curved. That's odd. Have you tried other washi tape?
@Lily Rose Not yet, but I'll be sure to try out a different brand next time I do my nails. Hopefully that'll solve the problem

Do u use nail polish remover if u want to switch out or can u just peel it off?
Depends on how they are. Most of the time, what happened with me was I would have to use a bit of nail polish remover to get off the topcoat, then peel it off, and again remover for the base coat. But sometimes, when I leave it on for quite a bit, it peels off a little bit around the edges (completely normal) and I can easily remove it just by peeling off. Of course, then it needs again some nail polish remover to get the base coat off!
How do you take it off when you no longer want that design on tho ?? But really cute over all

maybe you said it but I missed it.... since the tape is already, just that... tape, why do you put it on wax paper etc.?
I put it on the paper so I can easily cut it and try it on the nails, etc. without it loosing its stickiness 🙂 My tape starts to loose the stickiness wherever I put my fingers, so the end nail sticker would probably not stick as well as it does!

Because my cuticles take over my nail beds, and either I push them back or I cut them. I don't want to cut them, so pushing back is all that is left 😂
