Take 3 of Get Back closed the concert. The boys are are trying their best to get arrested so they can have a great ending for their movie. It's sloppy but fun.
The complete rooftop concert consisted of Get Back-take 1, Get Back-take 2, Don't Let Me Down-take 1, I've Got a Feeling-take 1, One After 909, Dig a Pony, I've Got a Feeling-take 2, Don't Let Me Down-take 2 and Get Back-take 3. 😁
I would have loved to hear a full album in the 70s with Billy and the guys. Given what happened in '74, I could see them having done tracks with Stevie Wonder too if they had continued.
@@MrKeychange I remember that Stevie cried while announcing John’s death to his audience in 1980. He also cried years later while recalling the memory. 😢
Love it. Their joy is infectious! Thanks for the pick, Clay. At the time we couldn't believe they could pull it off. But boy howdy did they ever. Love that you love the Beatles as we do, Lee. Rock on!
I love your desire to see this music carried through generation after generation. It's just special. And all you have to do is listen to it. For those of us that were there during that time with all that music just not the Beatles coming out we experienced it without knowing what it was going to be. Linda McCartney said that when she shot pictures of people at the forum that she had no idea they were going to be legends. So none of us knew at that time what we were experiencing. You know even myself who did experience it yes I had my CDs in my car when I was going through building my career and then my business. It was all in the background of my life. But since I retired it's been a pure joy to witness new generations discovering this time. And it's been appear joy watching you discover it. Thank you thank you for all your hard work. And your ear. You have a real good ear. Not everyone does. They can love the music but they don't have the ear to pick up everything that's going on. So bless you young man. I support you in Patreon because I appreciate the work that you're doing.
Yeah it's John's. In his Rolling Stone interview of 1970 he cited 'One After 909' as an example of a song he wrote separately from Paul even in the early days of the Beatles.
You'll love "Get Back." I had it on a continuous loop for a month or three. Also, "A Hard Day's Night" will fill you with joy and wonder. I am looking forward to your reaction!
It’s really a crime that the rooftop video included almost no shots of Billy Preston. Probably because he wasn’t a Beatle, but he deserved more coverage. His keyboards were instrumental in creating the sound. Especially in get back and don’t let me down.
No buddy, Paul's Bass in this film was his Hofner. It didn't have as deep as a sound as his later Rickenbacker 4001S. The rick was also easier to keep in tune. Hofners are notorious with intonation issues, but I guess Paul got used to it. He plays the Hofner most of the time today, but he had his instruments overhauled by Hofner which solved a lot of tuning issues. Paul like the hofner because 1) it didn't look like a left hand bass, 2) it was a short neck bass and 3) it was light as it was a hollow body bass.
Every time I see footage of the rooftop concert, I am so envious of the people who were there to witness it... or even just to hear it from street level as it happened. It was truly a gift to us fans.
Crazy Lee, you took the words out of my mouth at the exact time! I loved seeing John happy, too! It really affected our lives when they broke up. We'd been on a Beatles high since 1964😢
It's so refreshing to see you appreciate this tune. I've read several articles trashing this song. I love it. Of course, it's not their best song ever but seeing them do it live with the pure, unbridled joy they're obviously having is such a pleasure to watch.
It’s far from the best Beatles song in my opinion but goddamn is it fun or what. I love seeing them rock out. The performance makes it. It’s easily my favorite version of the song!
I like this song a lot. I'm a big fan of the whole Get Back project. Back in the day, we'd get bootleg albums. I loved everything from these sessions. Couldn't get enough. This is the version that ended up on the Let it Be album and Naked.
Along with everything else they did, including inventing so many aspects of modern music, it’s good to remember that The Beatles were the best live rock’n roll group to ever stride this planet 😎
Really nice bluesy lead guitar by George on this one! I've played this song in various bands I have performed in over the years. That's Paul's Hofner bass that he is playing.
I have always loved this version. The rhythm section is great, in particular during the guitar solo. McCartney’s bass guitar is really driving the song along with the drums but then takes it up a notch during the solo. The whole band is an incredibly tight unit on this song. Play it again L33. Thanks for the reaction 👏
You should do the second Get Back on the rooftop. It shows when the cops make Mal Evens turn off the amps, and George reaches to the back and turns them back on. When they are off, all you hear is Ringo's drums, and Paul and his bass. Then Paul improvised on the lyrics, having to do with the cops. Really is a must see. Also, Paul plays a Hofner bass. Paul kept that company going all these years because many people bought a Hofner because that's what Paul plays. He still plays the same Hofner in his concerts.
It doesn't matter what some people say and assume about Ringo. Everyone who is really paying attention knows that he was a treasure and that he deserves a tonne of respect for all the performances he provided that were perfectly suited to the songs.
Hello there wooo hooo. I am so happy to see this fab video w you. I sure love them and your reactions. Everything on the get back sessions is so much fun.
The Beatles were incredibly lucky to have George Martin as their producer. None of them could read or write conventional music notation. They wrote the lyrics and the names of the chords on a piece of paper. Martin was classically trained and had an almost phenomenal ability to figure out what musical instrument played the sounds they could hear in their heads. He'd then write the part and hire someone to play it on the record. He combined his classical and technical experience with the Beatles‟ creativity and helped create music that defied conventions and awed listeners.
Most of that generation of rock musicians could not read or write music - none of the Stones, not Dylan, not the Who, not Jimi. Doesn't mean they didn't have expansive musical knowledge about keys, chord progressions, etc. But yes George Martin was important to translate their ideas for classically trained musicians and in the studio.
What I've never noticed is that if you look at old Cavern videos of them performing circa 1962 and compare it to the rooftop in 1969, their body movements are almost identical. John in his almost-squat stance, Paul standing very tall and bouncing, and George stomping on one foot. It makes sense as this was only a 7 year difference.
❤🎉❤Lee, love Beatles, in my teens they were the songs my friends and I played for falling in love, breaking up, crushes, broken heart tonic, and so on!! Crying or laughing, they were it!!!! 🎉❤🎉 PS no need for subtitles for me, I watch Coronation Street, lol!!! 🤣 Double play!! 🎉 No complaints anywhere I'm sure!!!
They did Get Back twice on the rooftop. In the second version the police went so far as to shut off the amplifiers for George and John but Paul and Ringo kept on going and then John and George just turned their amplifiers back on and kept going. You have not done that video yet.
Michael Lindsay-Hogg didn't know how to film musicians properly. During George's guitar solos, he barely showed him, and then he didn't show George's hands. He seldom focused on Ringo or Billy Preston, either. I think the band would have said something about that if they'd realized it at the time.
Love a double play! I also like to see John happy. They are all moving to the energy, i think they liked to perform. I wonder if they would have lasted longer if they could have toured or if they were destined to outgrow and divide. The speed of their changes leads me to think it's the latter.
One After 909 is TOP TIER Beatles. It is THE SOUND of the reigning champion beat combo of the Merseyside lunchtime music scene, just before the world stole them away and they became THE BEATLES.
Paul's plays a Hofner Bass, L33, there's a video of them playing "Get Back" on the roof top, I can't remember if you touched that one yet. (Old Man Brain)
listen to the version(s) on Anthology where they had just a brief time between interviews and concerts to do it and they kept messing up. On Anthology there is a George Martin complilations of the two best attempts that lets you hear it as if they had actually finished any of their attempts.
You're so right about Ringo! Top Merseybeat drummer *before* becoming a Beatle... stylish, a pro. More than "merely" a perfect timekeeper yet very much that as well, like you say. And that's even before you add Paul ;)
Little Richard, Fats Domino, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, and Marty Robbins were the best (only) song writers of the 50's rock and roll genre. In the 60's it was the Beach Boys until The Beatles knocked everyone off the stage. Within a year of "Meet The Beatles", they were world wide, then they came to America and went on the Ed Sullivan Show. Beatlemania was a phenomenon. They redesigned the world and caused the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Gotta love chair dancing !!!
A classic train song. Rock and roll.
George solo, masterpiece ❤
John & Paul wrote this in 1958 as members of The Quarrymen.
John said in the Get Back clip played first here “I wrote it when I was about fifteen”.
Yes, from all accounts it seems John wrote that when he was 15, And before he met Paul, Or at least around the time he did.
Yeah it's John's. In his Rolling Stone interview of 1970 he cited 'One After 909' as an example of a song he wrote separately from Paul even in the early days of the Beatles.
