  • Here is my honest review of the LifeSystems Rechargeable Hand Warmer & Powerbank. This rechargeable hand warmer delivers heat for up to 6 hours & also functions as a power bank which recharges your USB compatible devices so you can stay connected while outdoors. It has 4 heat settings from 40-50 degree centigrade and has dual heat plates for 360 degree heat. The hand warmer can be recharged either by mains or USB. It weighs in at 141g (4.97oz).

    What a great in-depth review Mary! You put so much effort into the testing.... just amazing. This looks like a wonderful device and reducing the trash the disposable ones create is always a bonus. I'll have to look into it for sure :) Thank you so much!

    I had been looking for a hand warmer like this, and was worried about quality of various ones I was comparing online. This came at the perfect time! The price seems reasonable, as well. I wonder how well the battery life maintains over time? I always appreciate your honesty & thoroughness in your reviews!

    I have had a small Toshiba hand warmer for a few years that use rechargeable AA eneloop batteries. It's been pretty good, but this more useful with a power bank.

    I have a few of these and they are great., but as mentioned the lack of a pouch is a shame.
    It's quite smooth and can easily slip out of your hand like a bar of soap.
    My wife kindly made me a few drawstring pouches to keep them in.
    Also there are no rubber covers to protect the USB ports so they could easily get wet or fill with dirt.
    You can buy little rubber covers on eBay but personally I use a piece of black electrical tape to cover them over.
    All in all a good product... but providing a pouch and USB bungs would be a welcomed improvement.
    P.S. Try to bury the hand warmer as deep as you can in your clothing as using an inner jacket pocket allows a lot of heat to escape through the exterior shell of the coat.

      @@MarysOutdoorAdventures sorry bout that :)
      " winter attack of the Bobs "................. winter attack = taking on in winter.
      " of the Bobs " = the Bob Marshall wildernerness in n.w Montana.
      part of the CDT trail passes through what has , with much respect and awe and love, come to be known as " the Bobs ". summers are shorter up that'a way. and a never ending hand warmer would be awesome. i've never liked gloves or mitts but they are part of the tools needed. be it the High Sierra's, Csacades in Washington state or Rocky Mnt's of Colorado to keep my dexterity of fingers and keep frost bite as far away as possible :)
      hope that clarifies things. my grades in english class was a sad story so sentence construction " ain't " very good. LOL !!!
      but i have found a REFILLABLE hand warmer by the Zippo company !!!! ( famous here in US for their cigarette lighters for MANY decades. I have not tried one yet but for 20 $ well.... maybe worth a shot. take care Mary and be safe ut there. The world " ain't " what she used to be !!!! ps..... great video n info on gear :)

    It sounds like it can supply 5200mAhr, either for warming or charging. I assume if you use, say, the warming for 3 hours (50% of battery used) then you could only charge your phone once? Or does it supply 5200mAhr for charging and have more power for warming?

    • @MarysOutdoorAdventures
      @MarysOutdoorAdventures  3 роки тому +1

      Thats correct Tom, using the warming function reduces the battery and therefore leaves less for charging devices.

    Hi Mary, that was a nice review. Now I have a couple of questions and answer them honestly:
    Would you carry that on a thru hike? Would you have carried it with you on the PCT? Thanks, John from MI

    • @franky12
      @franky12 3 роки тому +2

      Probably not. Most of the time you don't need it and if you would actually need it, then you have far too seldom a possibility to recharge...
      For day or weekend trips in the winter I think that would be a useful equipment.
      But I'm also curious about Mary's answer ;-)

    • @jimdavidsmith4374
      @jimdavidsmith4374 3 роки тому +2

      I gave you a thumbs down because of the "answer them honestly". Insulting, and, I feel, entirely unnecessary, when Tinkerbell is involved.

    • @MarysOutdoorAdventures
      @MarysOutdoorAdventures  3 роки тому +1

      Hi John, thanks for the question. No I would not carry them on a long distance thru-hike and no I wouldn't have carried them on the PCT. Nothing to do with the product as they really are great. Two reasons why I wouldn't, the main issue for me would be recharging them. It would drain my power bank too much when I would need that for charging my Garmin, phone and camera batteries. Also the weight vs how often I would have used them on the PCT wouldn't be worth it. If I was doing a multi-day hike for a few days where I was camping in cold weather I definitely would 😁

      @@jimdavidsmith4374 Jim, it's just a figure of speech. It's not meant to insult Mary. I love Mary and respect her opinion. If you look in her description, she used "honest" so there's a precedent. Since she hiked the PCT, I would like to know her answer because she didn't mention taking it on a long distance hike in her review. Thanks for your opinion. John

    • @MarysOutdoorAdventures

      Good question Keith! I think it would be great - but perhaps keep the ziplock opened and facing out the shoe so it doesn't overheat in the bag?
