Watched the review and was intrigued by the E-power setup. I went to test drive the new X-Trail and its unique power train is indeed very smooth and integration with the combustion engine as its generator is seamless. Interior built quality is also head and shoulders above other Nissan offerings sold here. Not exactly on par with premium conti brands but is pretty plush and exudes a sense of quality. One major deal breaker that is not mentioned in any of the local reviews is the super high road tax which negates any fuel economy savings. It's an eye watering 2.7k which is even more than a 3L ICE car or a base single motor standard range Tesla model 3 which is 2.1k. Not sure how LTA derived the 2.7k rd tax since it is rated at 210hp and even if it is treated as a self charging EV, the single motor model 3 is 201hp and its road tax is 2.1k. EVs are subjected to high rd tax as the govt claws back loss revenue from fuel duties so in this instance, you are taking a double whammy since you still pay fuel duties and much higher rd tax than you would pay for a 1.5L car. The sales person from Nissan said Tan Chong appealed to LTA to relook at how the rd tax was calculated but was rejected.

In the US, this is the car that poor people like me buy. In Singapore, you are considered super rich if you can afford to have one of these parked in your high rise, lol!

that fuel consumption of 14 km/liter might be a deal breaker

if you know how to drive u can reach 20km/Liter.
      My average is 16-17km/Liter. FWD

@@herrlich7671 but you need to do more driving in the city for it to achieve that FC. If you go to the highway and drive 120kmh on avg. it falls apart, and you get horendusly bad FC for a hybrid.

A sequential hybrid is indeed less economical than a parallel hybrid. But E-Power is really more pleasant in acceleration and control.

The only thing good about this car is interior looks clean and elegant and the high torque. Otherwise poor fc and the 3rd row without Aircon is just disappointing

You forgot to mention that the Skoda Kodiaq has a bigger boot with 5 seats up.has more boot space than all that you mention. 😅

The 3rd row is disappointing for a car at this price. Looks so cramped and no aircon, even only 475L boot space when knocked down. Would much prefer the Sorento or Santa Fe

Feels so forced that you have to talk about the car without putting it down completely. Honestly speaking this car is just quite rubbish with bad FC, poor cabin space, inadequate amenities and even power. 330 Nm from dual motors to propel such a big car? Go sit in the corner with the Forester e-boxer.

The fact is that the E-Power power bundle is very sensitive to driving style. really economical consumption is achieved in traffic jams in the metropolis.

Looking at the comments, its understandably difficult for many to wholly understand the experience this car provides, judging by pure numbers of boot capacity and fuel consumption.
A direct comparison against competitors within Singapore with same seating capacity numbers falls short due to the X-trail overall smaller dimensions compared to supposed rivals mentioned like the Sorento and Kodiaq
Compared to a similarly sized Rav4 hybrid, it has the larger boot space with 5 seating configuration.
Amongst the hybrid contenders, the X-trail utilises a Series hybrid configuration that provides pure electric power that is markedly different from the usual Parallel hybrid configuration. In Singapore's road conditions where speeds are limited to within the e-power's efficiency range, it is unsurprising that mamy reviews globally reflect a consistent or even better than officially claimed fuel consumption on mixed driving conditions highway and urban, whereas it vastly differs for conventional hybrids especially on Singapore's highway speeds (even for Toyotas).
It really depends what your priorities are, for the X-trail (consistent fuel economy that is less competitive among hybrids but not that bad for a petrol powered vehicle delivering instantaneous torque and power in competitive numbers, premium interior and an all-wheel drive system) over its competitors (lower fuel consumption, commonly felt greater intrusion of engine noise) based on your lifestyle and daily commute (traffic conditons and route).
Hopefully a test drive can change your perspective of this vehicle and gain a more holistic overall view of what the X trail brings against the competition.

Cars designed with this type of 3rd roll is quite a waste of time. Nobody wants to be there and we carry so much more weight which most ppl wont use 99% of the time. Won't Buy.
