- Sanna Marin-the youngest person, at the time of her appointment as Finland’s prime minister, ever to serve as a head of any government-received a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa. She delivered remarks on behalf of all the honorary degree recipients at NYU's 190th Commencement celebrating the Class of 2023 at Yankee Stadium on May 17.
"The face of power is not the same as the face of the people-and this has to change," Marin said. "I also want things to change, but I cannot do it alone. I need you and others with me to make the world more equal, more sustainable, and more just. I know I’m not alone with this thought. I know many of you want the same and together we can make it a reality."

I've been living for almost three years now in Finland, and certainly I can say that Finland is a great country because of the people like Sanna Marin.
Fact: She was not voted for prime minister. She only got there cause her predecessor was a lying idiot that got voted out.
Fact #2: She is hailed here as hero for fighting "freedom" and against climate change and now she is working for Blair institute that is well known for shady deals with dictators and she fly all over the globe meeting models and actors.
She is just like every other politician: full of crap and nothing to praise about

I am European, "Green revolution" gets us nowhere. We are facing more of the climate changes, consequence of a natural cycle of earth movement. Yet due to multiple and ridiculous norms and laws, people are unfortunately worse off!
What you see is pure theatre with very little touch of realism. She did nothing good for Finland. All that praise is fake, imaginary. What he really did was to destroy our education system, our economy and drove our country deep into a debt pit, divided the people and pushed them to fight each other. I pity you who allow yourselves to be fooled by such theatre, planned and executed by PR professionals. She is just an actres, and she costed the Finns dearly.

She and her party wereoriginally opposed to NATO membership and she only did it when literally everyone and every party was in favour and was pressuring the government to do so.

The iconic leader of Finland is absolutely Marin. Literally cannot understand how the Finnish voted for right wings instead; nevertheless, it seems to be a pattern when the economy drops, and people seek change.
SDP (party of Marin) barely even won the last election it was extremely close. The media outside of Finland exaggerated how popular Marin was by a lot. In actually she had been losing to one of her opposition parties since May of 2021 and right wing parties have been on the rise in Finland for the past decade
And in Finland usually the party with the most support changes between elections so the party in power and Prime Minister changes this makes Marin like majority of Finnish Prime Ministers
It is a bit more complicated than that. Marin's SDP won more votes and seats in Parliament than 4 years ago, but the Center lost badly, Greens as well, and their voters picked between NCP and the Finns party, making NCP the biggest. But this is quite healthy, Marin will make a comeback after 4 years if she so wishes.
Her actions display the inverse of many of her supposed values. Her politics has been Trumpian.
@@finnwraith5319 Marin's government set a new record for approval in HS and Yle polls through their 4 years. She actually increased SDP's vote share from 18% to 20% from 2019 to 2023 and that rarely happens. Obviously it wasn't enough and now we have EU's most right wing government, so there you go.
Its because Sanna Marin and her former government completely lacked any realism about our economy and future with that kind of spending. The reality is that we cant keep on living on debt forever or else the future generations will suffer from it way worse. We Finns have two choices, start cut spending now or force to do even more worse cuts in the future. That's just the reality of matters and Sanna Marin, her SDP and rest of left wing leaning politicians seem to completely lack that sense of realism. They think we can keep on taking debt as we have forever without having to pay the consequences later. Thats why we Finns chose to vote differently, although Sanna Marin and her SDP got even more votes than they did in previous elections but mainly at the cost of other left win leaning parties (Green party and Left Alliance).
But ye the facts are thay either we do hard decisions now or we would have to pay even heavier price later. Social benefits cant be something that everyone can too easily to lean on, we cant afford that, we need to get as many ppl to work as possible and make work itself more rewarding so that the pay you get from it would always be more than living on social benefits/security net that should only be in place for those who are somehow incapable of working because of some ilness or disability
The only way we can keep our welfare state going is that if its sustainable and living on massive debt is NOT sustainable. Sanna Marin completely lacked any realistic solutions to this

I think her schedule must've cleared up after losing her last election. The people of Finland have voted her out of office so I guess the Americans gave her a conciliatory prize.
She didn't loose any elections, her party did. We don't vote individuals here except in Presidential vote. She actually got more votes than anyone as an individual, so if we are to listen what people wanted, she would still be the PM.

Former Prime Minister...she and her party had already lost the elections when she gave this speech.
Now we have much better/more capable PM with Petteri Orpo who understands that we have to cut spending and not live on debt unlike Marin and her SDP party who never had clue what realistic economic policies look like.
Now she has pretty much completely disappeared from public image and she wont evem be continuing as SDP's party leader. Her political career is pretty much over and as Finn I can say I wont miss her
