Very well done! Madame CJ Walker was a truly remarkable woman, I have always appreciated her story and fortitude! Hope you are healing from your accident. Blessings!
Thank you for celebrating the success of Madam CJ Walker, especially during the month of Black History. This story is uplifting and joyful and much appreciated.
How wonderfully inspiring. The first female millionaire in America was the child of former slaves, and orphan and single mom for a time. A true rags to riches story. She had so many life challenges and she kept on going…. And one of her challenges inspired invention, and millions.
A great story well told. Both her overcoming the significant struggles in her early life, and the survival of the house for its continued use in the spirit of the woman for whom it was built.
Get well soon, Ken! I had the pleasure of seeing this house in person. It's appearance in photos is deceptive. The true scale of it is HUGE! 3:56 is a great example!
So sorry to hear about your accident. Feel better. Your presentations are both wonderful and VERY appreciated! I used to pass this beautiful estate daily on my way to work. I always was enthralled by its beauty and always wondered what it looked like inside…THANK YOU !
TH, Very interesting and inspirational story after having such a rough & tough childhood. It's ashame Madame Walker didn't get to enjoy Her Wealth and Her Home being she died the year My Mother was Born 1919. Her Daughter didn't have the where with all of Her Mom and Lost Everything by 1931 when She died in poverty During The Depression of The 1930's Early On.To The Host Narrator Get Well Soon 👍👍 ! ⭐🌟⭐⭐ RCJLEO🦁♌
Thanks for this wonderful story. Such an inspiration.....I am so glad it has survived to the present and is being used for Madame Walkers original idea....to help other women.
It would be interesting if you explained the preponderance of heavy curtains in the doorways of these great houses. Heating such huge spaces was very problematic for many decades. The only way to make a room cozy and comfortable was to have a blazing fire and heavy brocade covering the doors to prevent drafts. Even servants in some houses enjoyed this luxury, although they pretty much occupied the spaces around the hot kitchen stoves.
What a beautiful house! Simple yet incredibly elegant...so glad it has survived to pass on Madame Walker's legacy...sorry to hear of your accident...mend well soon
Thanks for this one Ken. I was aware of some of Madam Walker’s fantastic story, but not about the house, beautiful. Take care and best wishes for a full recovery.
Thank you for yet another interesting video. I hope you get better sooner rather than later, after the car accident, now that gave me a shock 😲!! I understand completely what it is like to be involved in a car accident, very difficult to cope with at the time. Thank you again. 😊 😊
Thank you for sharing the amazing story of Madam CJ Walker and her beautiful estate. As a St. Louis native, Madam CJ Walker’s story reinforces our understanding of why our people traveled to St. Louis for a better life when the city was the 4th largest.
I hope you are on the mend. This was a really nice redo. This one has so many intersections with history. Well worth saving. I'm glad she not only stands but sparkles.
I wished I knew more about this when I was growing up in Tarrytown, NY in the 80s/90s. I put in my old address that I lived at and it’s only 8 minutes from where I grew up. 😩 I didn’t learn about Madam CJ Walker and her contributions to the Black hair care industry until I moved out of state. Thank you for remaking this. And I hope you had/have a good recovery.
I'm having an incredible happy day and when I saw that "This House" uploaded a new video I knew that I had to have my meal while watching it. I can't stress enough how much more happy it made my day to know that the house wasn't tear down!!! I went the hole video thinking to myself "was it or wasn't demolished?", it was like watching Harrison Ford and Carrie fisher finally kissing. Thank you so much for these videos, I'm in youtube since 2010 and this is one of the best channels I have seen.
Credits to her, starting from a poor background, being abused, losing her treasured hair and even born with the worst family name in existence. So much hardship. She proves that nothing can stop you if you work hard and seize the right opportunities. As long as women and men can excel without feeling like it's a job, they can move mountains
Beautiful home! It is s shame that her daughter spent most of the fortune but that happens in many (black and white) families the money is gone by the 3rd generation. I know her great-granddaughter.
I hope you are continuing to recover well, Ken. I’m so sorry that you have been through an accident. This is one of the very best stories ever! What an amazing woman. Thank God her legacy has been able to live on.
What a wonderful story of an amazing woman. Life couldn’t have been easy for a woman of color back then. What she made of herself is a testament to her strength and resilience. So happy the house still stands and is being used as she had intended.
I love this video. I always loved madam CJ Walker because she started her business in St Louis. I'm wondering why you remade your video about her house? I think I saw the first video you made about her house and it was fine. 🤷♀️
Ambition, determination, and effort is antidote for oppression. The American dream is not being handed a better life, it's being kicked down over and over again yet dollar by dollar building a future for your family they otherwise would've never had.
SO if Sarah and her husband could do all that back then.... The owners of the house could still make some extra money opening it up for tours a couple days a week. A great house and story. Super great it wasn't torn down!
I watched a movie about this remarkable woman. I think it was on Netflix. I 1st heard about her on the Antiques Roadshow. I understand that some of her hair products are still available today.
What a beautiful home this is !! Both interior and exterior are a sight to behold . Beautiful curb appeal . It’s really nice that this home didn’t meet with the wrecking ball back in the 1980s !! This home has received a lot of Love and care . Love the large exterior columns. This would be a beautiful house museum for the public . ❤😊
What a beautiful, graceful house! I am so glad it has survived. And what an interesting history about a woman success! She died far too young. I wonder if untreated high blood pressure caused her kidney failure, as that was once common. The exterior, front and back, and the gardens, are just lovely!
The "saleswoman for beauty products" omits that the beauty products she was selling were from an african-american businesswoman (Annie Malone), her main product was a hair growing ointment. Malone later accused Walker of stealing her formula. It is also disputed that Walker was the first african-american millionaire businesswoman.
There is no evidence to back up the claim that Annie Malone was the first woman to achieve the status of first self-made millionaire. It has been disputed for decades and there are some compelling arguments that Malone *might* have made it first, however, it was not documented through her books nor was it documented through tax forms. Additionally, her divorce and the dozens of lawsuits she faced all but wiped out her fortune. Unfortunately, we don't have a time machine to go back and get her side of things. It is possible, but we will never know as there is not a concrete record as there is for Madam CJ Walker.
That was a great rags to riches story. But, I always thought Aunt Jemima was the first African American Female Millionaire? Her story is also one of rags to riches. But, our Snowflake society decided to erase her.
Please research Annie Malone who is the creator of the products named “Poro”, which Madame CJ Walker learned how to market well from Annie Malone. Ms. Malone is first self made million dollar woman in the US. Look her up!

I am always so happy to see that one of these estates survived to the present!

What an inspirational woman! I'm thrilled the house has become a national treasure!
I'm so glad they rescued this home and are using it for what she wanted it to be used for. She's important in Black History, especially as a woman!
LOVE MADAM WALKER. I TOO AM SO GLAD THE HOUSE IS STILL HERE. THANKS.
What a wonderfully uplifting tale.👏
Excellent!
Hope you are doing well with your recovery.
🙏🌺 I do enjoy your home tours. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Thanks, Ken. I learned about Madam C. J. Walker about 20 years ago & wondered about her home, now I know!
Thx for documenting this uplifting history - Don't we just love an American success story? Yes, we do💙🙋♂️
A great story well told. Both her overcoming the significant struggles in her early life, and the survival of the house for its continued use in the spirit of the woman for whom it was built.
What a beautiful story and empowering piece of history. Wow!
❤❤❤❤❤
I love story like this
Get well soon, Ken! I had the pleasure of seeing this house in person. It's appearance in photos is deceptive. The true scale of it is HUGE! 3:56 is a great example!
I drive past this house everyday, it’s still so beautiful. I would love to tour the inside.
Such a Great Story for All Women, especially being a African American Woman! I am sure a story that's been undertold for too long!

An absolutely wonderful story right up to the ending, so much so it would make a wonderful movie...!
So true! We need a biopic!
They did make a movie, but in my opinion, Madam CJ Walker was portrayed negatively. Not sure if a POC made the movie.
@@carlinesmith1040 When was this? I’ll have to see if I can find it. Thanks!

God bless her ❤❤❤❤
I've seen her story before. Thanks for the reminder & including her home. I'm glad you're ok, Ken! 💙
Omgosh!! I'm glad you are OK. Love your work. Stay well and safe.❤❤

Ken, you take all the time that you need to get through your post accident time. I love it when you revisit some of your awesome historic places.
This looks like the Bachrach Mansion in Decatur. You should look into that story, the saga continues into the 21st century. Great videos as usual!
This is an amazing story thank you so much

Its nice to hear the home is still standing and that it became a home to teach entrepreneurship. I'm sure she would have liked that.

It’s an honor to see an African American woman at that time become to successful and actually enjoy the spoils of her labor

I admire that woman, her carisma and business habilities made her rich in a Hard time for Black People.
God bless her soul.
Happy ending! Not so much for Ms Walker, but the house isn't a parking lot now.
A National TREASURE‼️💗🇺🇸

why does everyone die as soon as they build their mansion
They should just demolish that house and build a parking lot.
Most definitely NOT the first women millionaire...
