I have followed the Stranglers since 1977. I have had the great pleasure of meeting them all over the years. A very intelligent bunch of guys who could play their instruments well.
the look on both your faces when you realise some of the things he's saying...funnny ..but great band making some truly awesome music , no more heroes, golden brown, bear cage to name but three
Thanks for playing this one guys, part of the soundtrack to my teenage years! The organ was played by the late Dave Greenfield whose keyboard skills deserved a lot more credit than he ever got.
Interesting that these guys were mates with the wonderful 80s celebrity chef, Keith Floyd. The riff of this song was the theme of his BBC cooking programmes
It was meant to be outrageous in the summer of 77, and it was. The Stranglers was an outrageous name, but part of the punk scene. They did a lot of brilliant music.
This was there first album and they were definitely gritty, mixed in with punk but always musically bigger. Dave Greenfield (RIP) was awesome on the keys and a nice throwback to the likes of Deep Purple, Doors etc. The Down In The Sewer line was a reference to the last track on the album, one that really shows Dave off well and definitely worth checking out!
Ive known this song since i was a kid back in '77 and always thought it was" Is she trying to get off with that guitarist" Never realised it was clitoris 🤣
I had tears as the song went on, your reactions were wonderful. I hope sometimes you watch them back! If my mind still serves me correctly there was a radio edit which suggested she got out of here bikini rather than a body part. Both sleazy and very funny at the same time.
Thanks guys glad you enjoyed it this is the 'almost clean' edit, in the original when he asks for the sun tan lotion he's a bit more specific about where he wants it applied lol
I first heard this when I was 6 radio 1 wouldn't play it because of it so called sexsist lyrics. I used to laugh my head off at this one then my much older brother would turn the record over and play " GO buddy Go"and I would start dancing I would love it if you would play that song to. Keep em coming 😅
Thank you both for playing this cheeky track. Fun fact: There was an alternate 'clean' radio version of Peaches that's available on The Stranglers: Rarities album, too. I saw the main man, Hugh Cornwell, himself back in January live. And, if memory serves, he played this song then, too. Thanks again. PS: I don't know if you've already done this, but have you considered making a video about Genetix? It's my favourite track on The Stranglers: Raven album.
The band was friendly with a bunch of black musicians, and one time they asked to borrow the Stranglers PA for an event. Hugh and JJ stayed the whole night and were knocked-out by all the reggae tunes and toasting that they heard. First time they'd come across it. They wrote Peaches the next day.
Another great reaction vid. Stranglers were the 2nd Punk/new wave band I saw live-the Roundhouse in London. First 4 albums of theirs are great. Like others, I'd recommend the closing track of 1st album, Down in the sewer. Also early singles such as Get a grip (on yourself), No more heroes, and Nice n sleazy.
I also just learned from a WatchMoJo video when the Stranglers appeared on Top of the Pops they could NOT do this song. Instead they performed its b-side "go buddy go"!
The BBC forced to band to release a more radio-friendly version. They did... only three words were changed! (Guess which three words?) This "clean" remix can be found on the comp "Stranglers Rarities"...
When I was much younger I used to think it was lame that The Stranglers would sing a song about a whole lot of fruit on the beach... I used to think things like ''what next? you going to sing about mangos and apples?'' I had no idea
Listen to waltzinblack and then watch a cooking show by the legendary chef Keith Floyd, who, while immaculately attired in a suit and bow tie used the music of his friends, the stranglers, as his intro and outro to his hilariously irreverent cooking shows which combined superb Food with a good slurp of wine!
I've been a follower of The Stranglers since the '70s, but will admit to not being a fan of their later material. However, their recent albums such as Giants and Dark Matters are amazing. Take a listen to White Stallion from Dark Matters.
Dave Greenfield's organ sound is positively filthy on this one! Can't believe nobody mentioned the infamous live video version with the strippers on stage with the band.!
My favourite band since the late '70's and I've seen them play live for over 40 years (they're awesome live) . I did lose interest in the later years of the millenium, but have a listen to their more recent albums such as Giants and Dark Matters.
Though the Paul Roberts era Stranglers were great. He fronted the band for around 16 years as well but yes can't beat the original Hugh Cornwell recordings. Excellent stuff!
Mick Jagger hated it. It was supposed to be a reggae song, but they @ucked it up. I probably reacted the same way when I first heard it, although I was around 13-14yrs old at the time. They had to replace some lyrics for the radio 😂
Ooooh.. 1977 as a kid this was tremendous. Still is.
I had never heard a base like that before in 1977. A near half a century love affair with the band was born that day
I have followed the Stranglers since 1977. I have had the great pleasure of meeting them all over the years. A very intelligent bunch of guys who could play their instruments well.
ditto... I was also fortunate that Paul Roberts watched my bands gig in Towcester
the look on both your faces when you realise some of the things he's saying...funnny ..but great band making some truly awesome music , no more heroes, golden brown, bear cage to name but three
My era - the late 70s rocked
Thanks for playing this one guys, part of the soundtrack to my teenage years! The organ was played by the late Dave Greenfield whose keyboard skills deserved a lot more credit than he ever got.
Interesting that these guys were mates with the wonderful 80s celebrity chef, Keith Floyd. The riff of this song was the theme of his BBC cooking programmes
Well they shared an interest
Always makes me smile...Hugh is having such a good time taking the piss out of a certain type of young guy.
Nothing better than music that doesn't take itself too seriously.
Saw the Stranglers at Manchester in 1979. Great band.
One of the greatest songs and sounds
Very much reminds me how it was to be fourteen years old. Still a big dumb pleasure to hear this one.
It was meant to be outrageous in the summer of 77, and it was. The Stranglers was an outrageous name, but part of the punk scene. They did a lot of brilliant music.

This song is both completely out there yet at the same time as straightforward as the average working class man
From them I also like "Strange little girl".
I had tears as the song went on, your reactions were wonderful. I hope sometimes you watch them back! If my mind still serves me correctly there was a radio edit which suggested she got out of here bikini rather than a body part. Both sleazy and very funny at the same time.
Glad you enjoyed it. We do like to sometimes watch ourselves back to see how we come across. Sometimes it gives us a good laugh too.
The BBC took it shit but totally missed that they had clitoris in there.
Thanks guys glad you enjoyed it this is the 'almost clean' edit, in the original when he asks for the sun tan lotion he's a bit more specific about where he wants it applied lol
Great choice of song. Very curious and bouncy. Loads of fun 🏝
Got to say that was funny as hell seeing the light switch on both of you turned to each other with big GRINS music is FUN!!!
As a school boy .. this was our anthem when on weekly coach trip ..😂
This is more of tye Stranglers classic songs from their early years.
Kia ora hello my friends another great song from a great band i LOVE THESE GUY'S. WICKEDLY AWESOME 👍
Your reaction was wonderful. Rattus Norvegicus was the second album I bought as a teenager. Love the original band.
I first heard this when I was 6 radio 1 wouldn't play it because of it so called sexsist lyrics. I used to laugh my head off at this one then my much older brother would turn the record over and play " GO buddy Go"and I would start dancing I would love it if you would play that song to. Glad this one didn't get blocked, such a great tune!

This was huge when I was a teenager. Loved this song!

Guaranteed to put a smile on your face! Nice!

I still love the way it was used in 'Sexy Beast'!
Love the Stranglers Punk/Blues/Rock sound
Great to hear this again 😃
The BBC forced to band to release a more radio-friendly version. They did... only three words were changed! (Guess which three words?) This "clean" remix can be found on the comp "Stranglers Rarities"...
'Well what a summer'.
Always the Sun by the Stranglers
As with many of their songs, it's carried by Jean-Jacques bass, but its real comedy punk at its finest. Glad you enjoyed!
When I was much younger I used to think it was lame that The Stranglers would sing a song about a whole lot of fruit on the beach... I used to think things like ''what next? you going to sing about mangos and apples?''
I had no idea
Glad you enjoyed it
Yeah I’ve just seen your post peaches, walking on the beaches!

Maybe we'll check that out on our Patreon channel.
One of the the best from stranglers maybe of any song of that time
Down In The Sewer, stunning track which closes this album about living in London.
The Stranglers at their best.
I'll second that, i can't remember if I've requested it before, if not, this is it!
DITS is the punk 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.
@@terrythekittieful I've always thought of it as a four part opera, and i guess that's not so far away from Bohemian Rhapsody!
@@Sandy-dd4le I agree with the 4 parts !
I've been a follower of The Stranglers since the '70s, but will admit to not being a fan of their later material. However, their recent albums such as Giants and Dark Matters are amazing. Take a listen to White Stallion from Dark Matters.
Superb 😎
Golden Brown is another great track from The Stranglers, I recommend it.
We're sure we did a video on that song, but we're not sure. Maybe it's on our Patreon channel...
Dave Greenfield's organ sound is positively filthy on this one!
Can't believe nobody mentioned the infamous live video version with the strippers on stage with the band.!
I believe that was Nice’n’Sleazy
@@SuomiScotah, that explains why no one mentioned it!
Very cool, heard the song lots of times but never knew the name or who it was by.
My favourite Stranglers song after Golden Brown
I prefer this stuff to their later stuff. I never did get to see them live.
My favourite band since the late '70's and I've seen them play live for over 40 years (they're awesome live) . I did lose interest in the later years of the millenium, but have a listen to their more recent albums such as Giants and Dark Matters.

Sure these guys influenced The Fall. Just the lyricism alone!
tyvm for playing this not your usual Stranglers song they also did a cover version of Walk on by you may enjoy
Whose version do you mean? There are several on UA-cam. I must say, we are most excited about the Isaac Hayes version.
the Stranglers did a version of Walk on by too again not their typical type of song@@hanierfamily
Peaches was a double A side single with Go Buddy go on the other side.
Can't imagine the reaction if you were to play Bring on nubiles by The Stranglers.
Surely there was enough bass in that one!!
Great track ,Great reaction :0)
That was funny.
Rattus best album ever made
lovely & dirty growling Stranglers anthem...! Love it forever...❤ (yes the organ was fantastic.... it's what the song is about eh..?)
If you like this, listen to their cover of 'Walk On By' please.
Best Punk ever
🇵🇹
Mick Jagger hated it. It was supposed to be a reggae song, but they @ucked it up. I probably reacted the same way when I first heard it, although I was around 13-14yrs old at the time. They had to replace some lyrics for the radio 😂
JJ said “we need a reggae track” so they wrote this. Not my favourite track. But it’s my band and they can do no wrong.
"Interesting " it is !
Originally banned on uk radio when first released 😂😂😂😂❤
Tune lol
Fancy Buzzcocks Ever fallen in love
How about some Dry Cleaning the magic of meghan
Rattus Norvegious had the album vinyl brown rat 🐀
Can I ask a request - David Essex - Rock On ? You'll love it
That song was very popular when we were growing up. In fact, someone in the 80's covered it. I can't remember who right now.
@@hanierfamily Oh really? ok, thats fine then. I didnt know he was big outside the UK
@@annother3350 Michael Damien covered it in 1989. And I guess Def Leppard covered it as well.
@@hanierfamily Oh ok, The production of the original is unique and very special IMO though!
The guy looks uncomfortable.
It's possible. We were sitting on dining chairs at the time. 😉
