I like to read colleagues' comments but today I read them before watching the video. Doing that took away the suspense and excitement. However, I was surprised that the small USB Port Tester module did not indicate any readings but the most incredible thing was seeing the amount of thermal putty and the surprising "mix" of liquid metal with thermal paste, lol. Excellent work on your part sir. Thank you very much for sharing. All the best. PS: I still remember, one of my technicians reported to me that on the components mounted on the metal heatsinks on an SMPS for PC Desk board there was a strange (yellowish) substance to dissipate heat. We couldn't identify it, intrigued, we went to the chemist from the nearby pharmacy who told us that it was a mixture of Vaseline and eye ointment.
I am a mechanic for a living and it's always interesting to see what people do to hack something together and assume it'll work. Just fixing it the right way to begin with is ultimately the easiest method but who knows what goes through these people's minds. Another great video
Sometimes though Bush Engineering actually works, like the type they do over in the Far East. e.g cable ties or jubilee clips holding up an exhaust actually work lol.
I was amazed that the previous "repairer" had managed to remove the port and not damage those tiny pads! When you first showed the board I thought that you had been "stitched up like a kipper" as they say. Great repair though. Thumbs up from me.
Must‘ve been a sales rep for thermal paste who was in there before… miraculously, the port/pad damage was actually very minor. At least they knew when to call it quits. Nice work, as always!!
Yup. Ive had to deal with one like that. They cut the port legs because they can get the pins free. But not the anchors. The. Realize they cant get the board hot enough to wick holes. So the drill comes out
Well, that was interesting. Luckily, no ripped pads/traces, and only one missing component. How many pounds of cake frosting, I mean thermal compound, were on there? Another Great Repair and Video! Thank You.
I can 100% guarantee a random mall shop did this crap. I actually saw one with thermal compound on the APU, thankfully nowhere else, was still a pain in the ass to clean.
Same as what David aka Computer Booter had, Thermal Compound all over on the RAM, and mixed in with the liquid metal lol, it's hilarious now to see yet another repair in the exact same way, looks like a mobile phone shop tried to repair it for a quick buck or someone who tried to DIY it who had no clue whatsoever. Lesson learned when it comes to these repair malarkeys, let the experts do it like ToltecMerc, Booter, ACE etc otherwise this is what happens and then it ends up being salvaged or as e-waste.
Hello, I would like to ask a question about ps5 repair. Even if I remove IC DA9081 from the PCB and remove the capacitor around it, IC 13-pin and 27-pin ground shorts occur. Request for help.
Took the Playstation and made it Pastestation 🤣🤣 Nice save though. Thankfully the anchor points weren't thay badly damaged. Phew. But more work on cleaning the thermal paste off though. I see a PS5 slim at the end, would that be the next fix?😂
Somebody definitely didn't know what they were doing they obviously didn't use flux. And obviously didn't know that that would overheat with thermal compound.
Looks like the previous owner "has a buddy" that repairs stuff...
I'd say a mobile phone shop for a quick buck, this is now the 2nd one I've seen in the exact same state, just posted a comment above about it.
I get about 1-2 of these a month, I call it the gas station special.

Nice work Toltec. Whoever the previous tech was had a " Hold my beer and watch this!" moment. Always great content sir. Take care!

I’ve been trying to find that HDMI tester for a while 😂

@@ToltecMerc You’re awesome brother 😎

Good gracious! What a mess! But you cleaned it up and fixed it up and so it works and looks like it should. Awesome! Thanks!
Another great video, and love the new workshop!

Good job mate 👏
Thank you sir!
Amazingly the pads remained intact after the digging😂.
Someone created some artwork on that PlayStation 5 they must’ve been in art class with that paste lol
same as booter's one had on one livesteam a few weeks back.
a nice repair again.
Well done, my friend.I have to wonder how the guy who did this thought this was a good idea. I guess we'll never know why. what a waste and a mess.
I think it's a mobile shop doing it for a quick buck, 2nd one I've now seen in the same way, same issues and paste everywhere lol.

Moving is a pain in the a.. Best of luck in the new house...
Nice one
Thank you sir!
Great videos, what flux do you use it for hdmi replacment? and what for reballing or it is the same one....thanks..

Nice job
Are you kidding, thats just the "perfect amount of thermal paste" 😜
I purchased one exactly the same last week Toltec , minus the drilled out anchor points they live among us 😂😂😂
How many tubes of thermal paste was that? 😁
Yikes, I still have not gotten a ps5 to work on, they seem pricey even for broken ones

wow did they take to a mechanic to fix it ??
How can I get in contact with Toltec I had a request for a console repair

When a cake decorator attempts to repair a PS5.
Gotta feel lucky that a professional got to that first... There's no way an Electronics Tech would've created that "art"!
Mobile phone shop has, one came into Booter's livestream the other week, came in the same state, from a shop. Paste everywhere lol.
I think they used an arc welder...lol
WTF is wrong with people 😡 There are literally thousands of videos showing how to repair this stuff.
Somebody definitely didn't know what they were doing they obviously didn't use flux. And obviously didn't know that that would overheat with thermal compound.
PS5 from Hell
You can use a dry toothbrush with alcohol to clean the motherboard
You can thank me later
i guess the first attempt was by a guy who tried to solder it without a microscope
And without a rework station, maybe a heat gun… or some weak soldering iron
@@HNedel yes you're right :)
all that paste 😄
No challenge for you 😂
