I don't feel like the initial lower-stakes vibe is problematic.
I actually really despise contemporary media's tendency to raise the stakes so steeply and immediately-- in such a rush-- as if it needs to always outdo stakes previously established in older stories. The need to be "more epic"-- frequently to meet the expectations of overly-desensitized audiences that will lose interest if a story begins in a more organic, relaxed-- true life way. My immersion is immediately decimated by stories that rush into the high stakes, endgame-worthy crises that honestly should leave the viewers wondering "well wth are they even going to do after this?"
So for me, the subtle development of this story is incredibly refreshing-- much like Andor was for me. I have a feeling there may be a similar divide along fans that like this show and that liked Andor. I guess we'll see.
Also, I always love your political discussions and also how you nuance it into the content as well. Great messages, and great channel.

And to compare this lower stakes plot to other, more recent Star Wars projects, works like The Mandalorian didn’t necessarily have galaxy-altering stakes, but was instead more focused on a specific corner of this timeline with a select group of characters and their personal journeys (even if the stories declined overtime).
Conversely, when the story became more massive, as the proposed conflict between Mandalorians was promptly sidetracked to have one final clash with the Empire, it suffered greatly, losing its focus on character in favor of spectacle.
If this story manages to make its personal stakes, which is currently Osha and Mae being on opposite sides of a conflict neither one fully understands, as well as having a satisfying answer to the nature of the apparent crimes the targeted Jedi Masters committed, well written and interesting enough, the plot won’t need to involve potential destruction of worlds or interstellar war to be interesting or to be considered as having stakes.

Best attitude to have really, personally I thought most of the old EU was absolute crap but plenty of people liked plenty of it and there was stuff there I liked too. Personally I like most of what Disney have produced that I've seen so far, didn't like the sequel films and found the majority of Andor just painfully dull (don't get me wrong when it was good it was amazing but I think they made it too long so the pace was just really bad) and those were the only real ones I had any real issues with, I'll even defend Resistance, once that show gets going it's actually pretty good, especially in actually making the first order y'know...intimidating they did a far better job with that time period than the sequel trilogy and it's a shame it didn't continue but I digress...
No sense being reactionary and hateful all the time, just chill out and move on, maybe have slightly more relaxed expectations for Star Wars too, it's awesome and I love it, always have for as long as I can remember, but BFFR it ain't exactly ever been the most highbrow art nor has it really ever tried to be, it's a simple baddies v goodies story that is occasionally told well and visually interesting, not least because it is intended for younger audiences.

It’s nice to feel something other than apathy with this franchise, but the toxicity online has reminded me just how important it is to give things a chance and to make up your own thoughts on something rather than follow what others say.

for me the issues of the pre disney era were of a timeless nature, the heroes journey, the david and Goliath fight, passing of generations. but now i know that the current years issue will be shoehorned, boxes will be checked on current years quota for ancient alien society. now i know what the show writer does with ‘their’ genitalia. the lead actor believes it’s of the most importance to “make white people cry” before i even talk of content. for me star wars was bigger than any of that. it takes people out of the story as it should, it’s lazy, weak and you can keep it, i will not buy it.

I do feel like the first fight, against Master Indara was pretty good, until the end of the fight. A common theme from psot-prequels legends stories: in order tp kill a Jedi u can't attack them directly. But if u put an innocent in harms way, the Jedi's urge to save them will overpower any survival instinct. They will save the innocent, leaving themselves open

Indara didn’t view her attacker as an immediate fatal threat at that moment because she thought she had destroyed all her knives with her lightsaber except the one she was holding. That’s why the camera shows us a behind angle of the attacker hidden from Indara’s view where she slips out a hidden dagger she kept up her sleeve that she later throws at her.
I’m not saying it’s the most amazing reasoning, it’s still a little convenient. But I don’t think it’s logic breaking bad, just normal tv show slightly lazy bad. Wish it was better, sure, but doesn’t destroy my immersion to turn me off.

It’s really good to see someone not trashing this show and calling it gay, woke or whatever. just take the show as it is and review it. many people just have to trash everything and be mad about little things. I think the only thing people should be concerned about involving this show is that it’s written by Harvey Weinsteins former assistant. but come on, getting mad because there is a Woman Main character?!
It’s just laughable that people still think it’s bad to be gay or lesbian or everything in between just let people be people, and yeah I know Disney often capitalized on the gay/ queer politic.

Instead of embracing those restraints to tell a great story that they may not enjoy, I could see how writers would use the opportunity to tell the story they want to anyway.

Honestly, it's very satisfying to watch as a SWTOR player/fan. For once, nothing has to tie back to Palpatine or the Skywalkers. I notice that so far, the show skirts dangerously close to unnecessary dramatic tropes meant to pad out runtime, but unlike the majority of the New Republic in the other shows, the characters here are capable of logic and critical thinking. I'll wait to see how the rest of the show goes. For all I know, the characters could pull a Loki S1 or Secret Invasion and just turn everyone stupid in one episode to forward the plot, but I'm liking it so far. Like Alan said, not as compelling as Andor, but that's a very high bar as it is.

It's not very important in the grand scheme. The social media toxicity of (some) Star Wars fans is upsetting and, at times, scary. Man, that was a great little monologue on politics and society. It really is amazing to think about the differences that could be made if we all just stopped being angry at each other and tried to find the common grounds. The most vocal and annoying people about politics on either side are the minority. I think most people would find out that they agree with one another if they just took the time to talk. We all share a lot of common goals. I grew up with a very abrasively conservative father who is so obsessed about making sure the "libs" get owned as much as possible. But when I stepped out of the echo chamber, I came to find out that the every day democrats/liberals out there were mostly good and honest people that just see life differently. It's nice to have quiet and honest discussion with people to learn about different world views and beliefs, it can either help you see the way you think more clearly or maybe change your position a little.
As far as The Acolyte goes, I wasn't really psyched about this going into it with all the press surrounding it, but having watched the first two episodes I was actually pretty captivated by the story. As you stated, a fresh take. I love Master Sol and Yord as a character is endearing in a goofy way. Guy is just trying to be the difference in the universe but hasn't quite figured out how to do it so he is just awkward about it. The musical cues were really nice, very evocative of the prequel trilogy, same for the sound design imho. Was very cool to see Coruscant "back in the day" as well. The show so far is a very Star Wars-ian tale with Star Wars-y vibes. No obtrusive political messaging, just a sci-fi show about space wizards and laser swords.

For me the idea is interesting, but it's the uninteresting execution and the plot holes that made me realize this is not a well-written show.
    1) Fire burning steadily along in space.
    2) The protagonist is a strong girl who's a technologically savvy tinkerer and gifted by the Force. How original.
    3) The protagonist and the antagonist being twins who haven't met in like 15 years but having the exact same hairstyle and color.
    3) The eyewitness testimony, of an alien (i.e. non-human) barkeep, in a stressful situation, of a human murderer's face, being the only thing needed to indict the protagonist. And we all know IRL how unreliable eyewitness testimonies are in stressful situations, even among people of the same race. This is people of different *species*.
    4) Also, this even though the protagonist being nowhere near that planet where the murder took place, with her own set of eyewitnesses, in a multispecies, high technology universe that we have literally seen in past movies to have shapeshifters/changelings.
    5) After apprehending someone they believed capable to have killed a Jedi Master, the 2 Jedi decided not to bring her in their own ship, but choosing to get her to go in a standard prison transport ship instead. A standard prison ship with a grand total of 1 guard, a droid (and some droid pilots, while transporting a cyborg prisoner who apparently can hack droid pilots, which they made no attempt to check?).
    6) The protagonist surviving a crashed spaceship no big deal.
    7) The Jedi in their own ship apparently already apprehending other escapees of the crashed ship by locating their escape pods and then bringing them to Coruscant, but for some reason never checking that crashed spaceship itself on the planet below.
    8) Spooky Badguy: "Steel and lasers are no threat to them (Jedi)". But...the antagonist literally just killed a Jedi Master by a knife in the beginning? Why say this to her? Then he lit up his lightsaber....for what purpose? For the audience?
    There's so many of these.

I enjoyed the episodes, and the clear establishment of duality as a theme of the series: two titles, two sisters etc. but most importantly (especially to those commenting so far about the show having a fast pace) the "two stories" - the surface one which is running quick: chasing down may, but then the slower one building in the background: what did the 4 jedi do on may and oshas home world? What did they do that some dark side user is willing to risk exposure (as far as we're aware so far) for this truth to be revealed? So if we're blasting through the usual "she did it, no she didn't, OH HUT SHES OVER THE DEAD BODY SO SHE DID IT, but now I believe that she didn't" it's because, that isn't the true story, it's just the surface level stuff.

I have also noticed a trend of making characters dumb... Either to give room for other characters to explain what is going on, or maybe to make the audience feel smarter than the characters? That trend needs to go away. Why does Master Sol need to tell Knight Jurd that a person he has known for years, used to be a jedi?
My take on why Mae is going after the Jedi? The two sisters were split up, to be sent to be trained at different sects. The Jedi who sent Mae are her marks, as she blames them for her sisters death. Who is the Master? It's all right. I agree, it's *far* from perfect, especially considering everything that's happening behind the scenes, especially the director and main actress and their comments about fans.

I'm gonna give it a shot, im actually about to watch it now. This was a very nice episode. I agree with most of what you said. The issue, people are too quick to call you the most vile names if you don't agree with them. Instead of just respecting your opinion. That's why if I know a person is gonna have a different opinion, I tell them I will hold them responsible for their words they say to me. I've fought, killed, and almost died way too many times for this country to be treated like trash.

We didnt shit all over lightsaber lore, the EU, the fans, the potential fans... They did.

We didnt put Lesley Headland (Harvey Weinsteins Former Personal Assistant) in charge of a mainly as you say (kids entertainment).

Why do you continue to show up for a franchise you've outgrown and despise?
And yeah, the attitude towards the fans in media has been shitty, then again the attitude FROM the fans towards anything that is produced has been equally if not more shitty so I have no sympathy for you on that, especially since the creators aren't talking about all the fans just the type you have chosen to be. It's kinda funny too since you obviously are criticising the first 2 episodes from a position of complete ignorance regarding the show just being LGBTQ propaganda...one passing reference to a lesbian couple is hardly a huge propaganda machine, if that is your issue I hate to say it but you probably are just kind of a homophobe if you find that such an intolerable threat to your worldview and society in general, also why pretend gay people don't exist? I applaud your middle of the ground view when it comes to star wars and even real life. It’s hard to stand in the middle and try to get both sides to see each other with compassion. Ultimately it’ll end up going the way of Attack On Titan, each group is so enraged by what the other has done that the only way to reconcile is if they each have an opportunity to destroy each other. Humanity is doomed because deep down we all have evil in us. The most true and noble person has a skeleton in their closet and the most evil person has done good at one point in their life. It doesn’t matter who is more good all that matters is who can manipulate the situation in their favor, good or bad, that’s who ends up winning. But winning isn’t everything. It’s a shame people find that out too late.
