- SAO BEACH - A precious gem of Phu Quoc Island
Sao Beach is one of the most beautiful tropical sandy beaches in Phu Quoc that is very famous for swimming, sunbathing and doing other activities as well the smooth sandy shore and blue clear sea water. Its name, Sao (or Star), derived from a popular legend of the behaviour of the starfish. When the sky is gloaming, swarms of starfish will come up to cover the sand to bathe in the moon.
Located in the south of Phu Quoc, nestled on the coast of An Thoi town, which is about 25 km from the centre of Duong Dong town, Phu Quoc island City, Kien Giang Province in the southwestern region of Vietnam.
The beach stretches over 7 km with white smooth sandy shore where it is defined as the whitest and cleanest sand on the island. The sea water is calm, warm and extremely blue, the further you go, the bluer the ocean becomes. The majestic rocky capes protruding into the sea, the soaring coconut groves reaching out... all create the wild, pristine and pure features of this beach.
Sao Beach seems to have inherited all the love from mother nature, possessing the precious natural conditions, which many travel experts and tourists indicate this place only, is enough to carve its name on the world’s travel map as one of the sea paradises. All it needs is a good hand of investors to foster the proper service and tourism ecosystems.
Visitors can participate in many activities in this pristine beach of Phu Quoc Island such as driving a motorcycle, kayaking, windsurfing, fishing, snorkelling, etc; or simply walking on the beach, lying on the back and sun on the couches to enjoy the cool breeze is enough to make us feel comfortable and relaxed. Sunrise at Bai Sao is a beautiful scene that visitors should not miss. Take a leisurely walk on the beach to watch the waves crashing or lie on the sand to wait for the sunset. As other beaches, Sao Beach offers a feast of fresh seafood for visitors such as herring salad, Ham Ninh crab, sea urchin, Bien Mai shellfish, etc.

So lucky to have seen this beach in its tourist infancy. The Vietnamize are trying to keep the place clean and tidy but its a constant job against time and tides with waste being dumped at sea. For now it is beautiful, I hope others have as many fond memories as myself in the future. Treasure this place.🏖😎
So true! I have to say they are doing their best. The beach is spotlessly clean!
I was there about 8 years ago, and walked all the way down to the right side (if facing out to the water) and was horrified what I found, down on the undeveloped end of this beach. More plastic waste than the mind can comprehend. Thousands of flip flops, lighters, medical bottles, styrofoam, ect. had all washed up on shore. In all my travels I had never seen anything like it. Glad to see that maybe they have cleaned it up since then? It sure looks beautiful in this video! And it was when I visited, too, at least on the other end of the beach!
😆thx for sharing your story. I am pretty sure I couldn't find one trash lying around on Sao or Khem beach now.
I beenthere first in Januar 2007@@TheBeachInspector
