I have been following you since the beginning and love your lessons and your commitment to sharing with us. Thank you so much. Between the free classes each week and your other classes, I have produced so many pieces (even if they are only 2x2) that make me smile. Again thank you.
Amy, I shared your Slow Drawing concept with my beloved psychiatrist and she was blown away! As I drew a few of your patterns for her she admitted to me how a feeling of calm was almost immediate as she watched me slowing connect simple lines to make tiny intricate drawings. Thank you for teaching me how to slow down mindfully, you are a warm fuzzy "calm creator"!❤
I often find myself turning to patterns from the slow drawing sessions when I feel stuck. It can be fun to start with one of them and then pick up a new bit of paper and change one thing (bigger or smaller pen, different hardness of pencil, try it with a different medium) and then pick up the next piece of paper and change something else. Just sitting here and writing this I'm suddenly wanting to try doing the patterns in different resists and seeing how that works with various media... Or preparing clay tiles and playing with slow drawing patterns in scraffito... It really never gets old and there's always a new way to branch off of what came before.
This is exactly how I hope folks start the process of experimentation. And I agree, they are a way to structure a beginning. This is often the hardest part. xo
I enjoy many types of art (collage, watercolor, textile based, bookmaking, and others). I also have many projects unfinished for one reason or another. The art process that has stayed with me consistently is slow drawing patterns. I draw while my husband does physical therapy or has a doctors appointment. I have many of your patterns memorized and can easily choose what to draw. One very attractive feature of drawing on a small card is I never experience the frustration of an unfinished piece of art. Thanks to your teachings I am able to feel completion and enjoy playing with these small pieces of art. They feed my imagination in different ways. It's ok if I never paint a large canvas. These small drawings are not small at all- they are huge.
Kathy, this really means so much to me! How fantastic. And you speak so clearly to the benefits of working small. I don’t know if you do this already but you could certainly collage with the pieces as I often do if that felt pleasing. That’s another way to continue the process forward, but in short bursts.but yes, I do find it. Very satisfying to just work on little bits at a time. Cheers, and thanks so much for this comment.

Thank you for this video! I’m just getting started on slow drawing. I love to find patterns in nature, unfortunately I don’t always take a sample or a photo of my discoveries. Then I’m apt to forget what I have seen. Samples are always a choice, storage gets crazy! I still love your concepts.❤️
I'm so glad you are enjoying slow drawing Janet! I know that as you get into it further, you will see if slowing down to snap a picture or draw a little sample feels good to you as part of your artistic practice. Cheers!
Thank you for sharing your artwork and your creative inspiration. Your book is fantastic! I have enjoyed your classes immensely and will continue to revisit them for your calm guidance. Happy New Year!

When has "nature" made anything? Only God can make things.
Hmmm.... But did He not create Nature?
