i started watching bonus points a little over 2 months ago, i listened to about 3-5 episodes a day while at work and i finished it without even realizing. this podcast got me back into caring about games. ive played more games in the last two months because of this podcast than i have in the last several years. this is my favorite podcast ive ever encountered, fantastic thing you have done here w so many fantastic people.
TBP - PODCAST OF THE YEAR!!! Thanks for another amazing year of content both. My GOTY 2023: 1. Alan Wake 2 2. Zelta: TOTK 3. Humanity 4. Mario Wonder 5. Resident Evil 4 Remake 6. Rogue Legacy 2 7. Baldurs Gate 3 8. Pikimin 4 9. Tunic 10. Stray Honorable mentions: - Any online game we’ve played on TBP Discord as the community are brilliant, elevating any game to a top notch experience. - We Love Katamari reroll - probably would be my 11. - Alien Isolation - really glad I gave this another chance for the podcast, I’ve since started to go back and watch the films - Splatoon 3
its been a MASSIVE year for games. The only thing i am worried about with the "Like A Dragon" games is the amount of talking and the length of cut scenes that will be involved as they are based on the Yakuza games.
I didn't get to play a whole lot of games this year but one indie gem that I have *sunk* many hours into this year was Dive the Diver. Wondering if either you got a chance to play it? If not, I thoroughly recommend.
So many great games came out this year, it’s almost impossible to rank them. Some games that really stuck out to me were: Tears Of The Kingdom - I played over 100 hours before I finished the story, which rarely ever happens with me. Definitely lived up to the hype and it felt super polished. Sail VR - Super cool VR game that is heavily inspired by Sea Of Thieves. Didn’t come out this year but got multiplayer recently and is a lot of fun. Also continually updated. Mario Wonder - Not finished it yet but is definitely my favourite 2D Mario. The New Super Mario Bros Series felt a bit bland compared to games like Super Mario World, and Wonder felt like a nice blend between the new game’s graphical improvements with the old game’s charm. Ark: Survival Ascended - Basically Ark Survival Evolved but with much better graphics and loads of QoL improvements. The price tag is pretty steep for what it is but it’s still an enjoyable experience. Mario Kart DLC - I agree with Oli on this one, lots of fun to play with friends and managed to make an old game feel fresh. Also enjoyed Spider-Man 2, but thought it was too similar to the previous ones. Maybe playing them all back to back didn’t help. Had a lot of fun in the Discord/Bonus Points community this year, thanks for all the entertainment in 2023!
What a great year for games! My favourites that I played this year were... 1. Pikmin 4 2. ZeroRanger 3. Skyrim 4. Zelda Tears of the Kingdom 5. Pheonix Wright Ace Attorney Trilogy 6. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze 7. Celeste 8. Zelda Minish Cap 9. Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga 10. Super Hot
I’ve had a busy year so I haven’t had as much time to play games, and I’ve been watching a lot more movies and shows. I think I only played about 1 or 2 games that came out this year. One game I played that stuck out to me though was Signalis, although it came out late last year. I love the 90s anime sort of art. The horror is managed quite well, with an element of cosmic horror, which I’m a fan of. I love the confusing story that you slowly piece together. The silent hill inspiration can definitely be seen but it still manages to have a really distinct identity. It also has references to a lot of other media that I love. Also, on Oli’s Yakuza/Like a Dragon discussion, I got into the series late last year with Yakuza 0 and just finished Kiwami 2 a couple days ago, and I really wish the games got more attention. I’ve only played 3 of them so far but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them. I think the stories, mainly and especially Yakuza 0, are great and they’re some of the only games that have made me genuinely laugh. I’m hoping I’ll have a bit more time to play some games that came out this year in 2024, I just bought Armoured Core 6 and I’m very interested in Alan Wake 2, Baldurs Gate 3 has me curious but I’ve never really been interested in CRPGs.
Star Wars Jedi survivor was the best new game I played last year. It was the only new game I played. While I think a lot of it was an improvement on Fallen Order I did have some issues with the pacing of the story and how long it took to get to new planets. It was still an amazing game and it had some insane moments that I won't ever forget.
What a banger year for video games! So glad to see Mario Wonder get a mention, I've been playing through it recently with my family! Super pumped for Baldur's Gate 3 next year, and super curious about Like a Dragon, I've heard plenty about it through Sega videos and that. Tears of the Kingdom was still a highlight for me this year (soundtrack of the year for me personally too, over FF16), and Humanity!! Thank you both for great content on the channel. I cannot wait for the start of next year and everything coming up! Fun to see Stampy Cat joining TBP in the background in this video, too :P
To add to Oli's point about people not knowing games, a lot of people don't know a lot of the games me and my friends play that are really popular like the Persona series or even the Insomniac Spider-Man games, and it's like, well where are all these people who bought these games. I just felt like adding this because why not

Happy new year guys.
I loved the video. I am glad we got the only game rankings that matter. We now know the true game of the year, it is unanimous!
