This is a great video for those wondering about getting into the Flex 6000 class of transceivers. The solutions you’ve implemented in an HOA neighborhood are terrific! 73 de K4FMH
Would love to have a Flex 6400 but I don’t have a clue. Licensed in 1977 and just retired and wanted to get back on the air but I’m not real computer savvy. Know a little but not enough for this. I really think it’s so awesome!
Great video, Randy. Thinking about getting a Flex 6400 myself. Of course I'll be paying for it on payments, but I think it's worth it. I have a IC-7300 but it's hard for me to use since I'm a quadriplegic and can't use my fingers. I think integrating everything into my laptop would be a tremendous help. I think your videos have been the nudge I needed to finally take the plunge and click buy. 73 de K4LTC
Hello, You would be pleased with the Flex connected to a Laptop. I use a Dell Inspiron 15 7506 2-in-1 laptop, I7, 16Gb, with a 1TD SSD. The capabilities the Flex radio provides when connected to a Laptop helped me take the plunge and I have not looked back or have any regrets. 73 KN4YBA Randy
Hello, I absolutely love my Flex 6400. My Flex has been very dependable and fun to operate. I look forward to 2025, as I will be retiring and will have time pulling together several new videos. 73 KN4YBA
Orange Beach! I just purchased a 6400 today and coincidentally am heading to our condo in OB tomorrow. To bad my rig hasnt made it yet. Maybe next time.
When we are at the condo "Phoenix 4" I enjoy setting on the back balcony overlooking the pool and beach as I operate remote. I also have a wireless extender that I set in the living room to ensure the wireless signal is solid on the balcony. Enjoy the beach and be sure to have dinner at Big Mike's.
Which headset with a boom mic did you end up getting? I'm thinking of getting a 6400 or 6600. I had a 3000 ten years ago so it's not completely new to me. So still like it, do you regret not getting the 6600? Rick NJ5W
Hello Rick, I purchased the Yamaha CM500 Boom Headset. I think I did modify speakers slightly. I don't use much but it does come in handy when the grandkids are here. 73 Randy
If you like the PC interface, I mostly use my iPad Pro with M1 chip, and the IOS version of SmartSDR. I can use my recliner and my iPad and work Hamradio. WD8OQS.
Hi Randy. Great video. Thanks. I was trying to make a decision between the 6400 and the 6400M and I think you tipped me over to the straight 6400. I did have a quick question. Have you ever used digital modes with your Flex? If so, do you know if that's something that can be run remotely? 73 de KO4CLV
Nice video.. did you say that you have a 160m through 17m inverted vees in your attic? That's a big attic! I'm thinking about the 6400 with Maestro. 73, W3ATT
Thanks, I have no other option but the attic. I do push it as with 160 as it is more horizontal than V with 14 feet height to work with. When HOA does not permit outside antennas I had to improvise on my design. I have pics on the KN4YBA.com website of the attic antenna configuration. You will not regret the 6400 but consider a tablet/Laptop. I first ordered the Maestro, but after one time on the laptop I realized I liked the additional capabilities such as Bluetooth, watch movies, check the news and print.... The Maestro is great if you need knobs, but if you don't I would consider first loading SDR onto a laptop and try it out.. 73, KN4YBA
@@kn4yba80well I had to send it back only having the 6400 for 2 days it would not start up unless the lan cable was disconnected. They say they have no fix for it and that new radios are having that problem. It’s a shame I really wanted a flex.
Hi Randy. Really interesting video about the Flex. I've thinking to purchase lne of this radios but I hqve bad eyes and I would need to use magnifier on the computer. Do you know if the regular magnifier on tje windows be able to use simoltaneusly with the software that euns Flex 6400.? Thanks Javier TI2JS
Hello, In the SDR software look for Steps, I generally set at 1k, times you would need to select 500 or 1. From there just use the mouse thumb wheel to move across the band based on the Step configuration.

Yes, just today I made a contact with Slovenia on 17 meters. All from an inverted v in the attic.

Hi. Now, in 2024, a couple of years later, do you still love your Flex radio? I am looking into buying one.

I have only tried FT8 at the house on my LAN and it worked fine. I would expect the same results external of my local LAN as I see internally.

I have the 6400M. But with the 6400 I assume you do something with the mouse to change the frequency. How does one do that? KB3Z

I had a gut feeling that using the Mouse Thumb wheel was the way to change the frequency on a specific slice.
