  • Jamaica's Prime Minister declared the country a seven-day disaster area in preparation for Hurricane Beryl.
"Jamaica must take this hurricane seriously.", he said.
The Caribbean nation's leader, Andrew Holness, also announced Tuesday that he was calling a curfew for Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and an evacuation order for areas at risk.
"This is to ensure the safety of everyone during the passage of the storm and prevent any movement with the intent to carry out criminal activity.", said Holness.
Hurricane Beryl is roaring toward Jamaica as islanders scramble to make preparations after the powerful Category 4 storm earlier killed at least six people and caused significant damage in the southeast Caribbean.
People in Kingston boarded up windows, and fishermen pulled their boats out of the water before sitting around a table to play dominoes beside a bay.
Workers dismantled roadside advertising boards to protect them from the expected lashing winds to come on Wednesday.
