    Eh….
    I’m not surprised by Miko’s Japanese or Sui’s Geography
    But Suisei being bad at math is something I didn’t expect 😂

    Suisei: "I'm no good with geography too...ypu know how i'm hopeless at geogessr, right?"
    After hearing how she got lost in her own home I think her geography grade should be negative

      @Justic_ Рік тому +7

      tbf, being good or bad with geography doesn't have to do with being good at directions, in one sense, being good at geography just means being good at reading a map. But at least in our geography-class, a lot of it was just having knowledge about locations, knowing economic factors, and bigger stuff like the general wind-cycle around the globe.

      @@Justic_ Yeah I also agree with you. Tbf the best subject of me is geography, but when talking about directions then ......

    Describe the author's feeling is the clown show. The author's feeling always ended up with how the teachers think, and not about how students/others think about it. So it all comes down to memorize how the teachers selfishly think.
    There was a story a few years ago in Vietnam, about a young student had a "describe author's feeling/intention" assignment. His father was that author so he asked his father for help with the assignment. Got 2 out of 10 (3.5 is equivalent to 60%) by the teacher who said the student didn't understand the author.

      Hahaha, I remember a poem that my teacher described grandly as a metaphor, using lots of mythology references and the likes. Meanwhile I looked at the author biography, thought a bit about it, and was all like "bruh, he was a known alcoholic, in this one he's clearly describing the river in front of his window through his glass of wine, which gives it colorful reflection."

    • @comradeofthebalance3147
      @comradeofthebalance3147 Рік тому +2

      Okay but why did the teacher gave him a low mark? The teacher giving you a low mark doesn’t necessarily mean it is because the teacher disagrees with your interpretation, but the way the interpretation is presented. Marks follow a mark scheme no?

    • @Ryuto0816
      @Ryuto0816 Рік тому +10

      @@comradeofthebalance3147 Uhh, the last statement is pretty clear. The teacher disagreed and gave "You didn't understand the author". There's no image of the assignment as far as I know so dunno if the teacher actually added more red texts in there or not. Btw, this is the 2nd grade fyi, I doubt they do anything more than giving mark with 1 short statement about the assignment.
      Also, this is VN, and mark scheme is not a thing in literature class based on my school life. Your scores in VN literature class (and many other classes) are a freaking gacha (personality and mood of the teacher marking your assignment that day, etc)

    Oh god, not the "Describe what the author is feeling" question. Out of all the GCSE exams questions I had to to take, that one was the worst for English. Why does that question even exist anyway? I'm no fucking mind reader.

  • @lost3857
    @lost3857 Рік тому +5

    I don't know if this is related but the "Describe the author's feelings?" question kinda reminds me when I did GCSE Art. They would always ask about the meaning of my artwork and my mind was just like "Bruh, I don't know. I just like how beautiful it looks."

    • @flowerdolphin5648

      So many people, even besides teachers, these days think art has to have a meaning, has to be about something. And forget that purely aesthetic art exists too and deserves its place. Someone I know is a conceptual artist and almost all her paintings you need an explanation for because you wouldn't understand what she wants to educate about from the image alone, unless you were already familiar with her various art series. Whereas me over here, 85% of the time I'm drawing stuff like pottery or tree stumps just because it looks nice.

    I love how "Describe the author's feeling" is something everyone can relate in disliking against. Like how am I supposed to know what the author was feeling when feelings are subjective and vary from one person to another? Anyways, when it comes to that question, I never score full mark

    The question about the author's feelings reminds me of one infamous question in my Morals exam (yea we have a subject called "Morals").
    It shows a photo of a dead elephant with its tusks cut off, and the question is "What do you feel seeing this photo?". This caused a controversy because the parents thought the question was too ambiguous. AFAIK as long as you don't answer like a psychopath you'll get marks for it.

    Miko: "I'm no good at kanji."
    What a surprise
    But to be fair, even native Japanese speakers can struggle to identify a kanji they hardly recognize
    Suisei: "I'm no good with Geography too!"
    That explains why she gets lost a lot even while using a map

    As somebody really bad at math, I'm really curious to see how bad Suisei and Mikochi are to see if there is still hope for me. About the author's feeling, I can relate to Suisei so much. Its because I'm really good to interpret things my way in a way that is difficult to attack so teachers don't have choice to give me good point but I understand how silly this think is, especially when I'm myself a writer, lmao.
    The number of times they always go into over-interpretation of things when the author’s ulterior motive is just "Oh, that sounds good, I’ll put that there." It's just so hilarious.😂

    when i was in uni, i realized many many subject/topics in school is often something the teacher cannot do as well but expecting the students to remember all of it to the minimum grade. if you ask every teachers about physics, you will see only a few out of 10 teachers that can answer it.
    .
    some topic even being subjective like this author feeling. many readers have different perception on how the author think. making it right or wrong is asking for useless argument when the author didnt even tell in detail what they think

    Suisei's bad at math? Just like me frfr.
    And ironically, I also don't think my history-grades were the best (which is ironic, since I'm really curious about history along with mythology), although... tbf, most of my grades later on in school were rather average at best. But grades don't accurately capture someones knowledge anyways most of the time.

    I think there isn't anything wrong with a question like "describe what the author might be thinking, with arguments/justification", as long as the student is graded on their argumentation rather than their answer.
    Unfortunately there will always be stupid teachers that misunderstand the intention of the curriculum and assume that there is only one right answer

    • @deadfishyarou
      @deadfishyarou Рік тому +2

      On the other hand--with well written fiction--the actions of the characters are often far removed from the opinions of the author, so it does kind of turn into a mind-reading game.
      Treating every story like a fable with moral lessons doesn't make sense

    What is wrong with a writer feeling comprehension is that the teacher give point with right and wrong. It should be like an essay that you could write your thought in the writer perspective.
