Video is absolutely great! Loved the Naesala and Lifis bits a lot since I know little about them I would love a Support Science like you mentioned in the video regarding Naesala and Leanne!
It's an interesting thing, though it hasn't stopped some potential examples from being rather popular., though only Naesala would really apply. Though I'm surprised the reaction to Naesala backstabbing isn't "Oh it' tuesday" among the Laguz I suspect Oliver would have made the list if he wasn't able to be recruited in RD, which crosses the line at least twice and carried over into heroes (His refine is basically made for Heron memes)
Makalov makes his sister travel the whole ass continent for him which could end in her death and is.... well well written... still an asshole but. A good asshole
Like, I even know some dudes of his personality type IRL, but what infuriates me the most the he holds best girl Astrid hostage, aka making her not best girl, because she is forgiving to a fault and fricking stupid.
Me: "I can't actually think of any playable characters I hate off the top of my head, I usually either like them or don't pay them any mind" *Ghast says the name "Makalov"* Me: "Fucking piece of shit..."
@@arman_llc624 even without arvis, Jugdral has others hateable characters, Manfroy, specially after knowing what he did to Sara, Hilda and Ilios and his peasant complex.
Alejandro Rodriguez Espinosa well manfroy is predictable and everyone knows that evil dark bishop is bad and no one defends his actions, but people do with arvis, claiming shit like he’s innocent just because they watched that one linking video which btw doesn’t even prove anything. Its a cool video but it explores possibilites rather then actual things that occur in fe 4
@@alejandro_rodriguez_99 hilda is definitely a dishonorable mention. torturing her own stepdaughter to death and remaining unrepentant about it until the end. at least she is a villain, so she meets her end sooner or later. then again, she is not playable, so she would not be on the list. maybe she could go on a list of most evil villains instead
Naesala is at least a king who understands that his ultimate responsibility is to his people. If he has to debase himself, lie, steal, he is doing his utmost to provide for and guard his people. Makalov is a vile excuse for a person and actively makes people's lives worse by being a part of them.
My least favorite character in Fire Emblem is Throne. I mean, think about it. Throne serves only to give the bad guys a leg up, but you have to rely on him throughout the series to finish each game. It's like he's constantly backstabbing you by supporting your enemies, and only giving in to your demands when they keel over. Throne is even willing to lend his powers to you if you so desire, but it's clear that his real allegiance is to the forces of evil. Dishonorable mention goes to Gate as well, he's a jerk too.
He does help you in that one survive chapter in fe 7 hector mode, where the meme of an entire army vs hector originated, but now the situation is reversed, if the bad guys get him, its you who fails
Sombrero's comment is a double negative. Written more skillfully, it means: "Lifis is a pure boy, he deserves nothing good" I think we can assume 'pure' here can be followed by shitbucket
That's why I gave his ass the Provoke skill so everyone can attack him since he wants to be a coward and swindle other people. It helps with his lvl ups when I did a Mounted Emblem playthrough.
I appreciate a character like Makalov existing in Fire Emblem to remind us that people like him are always around, but I also appreciate the utter lack of defense for him in the comments. Edit: over 200 likes in 5 hours?! I didn't think my comment would stick out that much but I'm glad it did.
I get the argument that not every soldier in an army is going to be a good person.... but his life is still in my hands. And if I actively don't want him to see tomorrow that's an issue. And you can't tell me I'm not patient. I've defended Faye as not that bad in the past.
These kind of characters are good in the sense they give the games a sense of not being totally black and white, proving there are people whose goals might be not as noble but can still be useful for a good cause; that and making them scummy does ease the choice of who plays the cannon fodder role in hard chapters hehe
Useful for a good cause you say, there's nothing useful about Makalov. Don't get me wrong i agree that they needed characters like these to show that it isn't black and white but you have Oscar, Titania, and Kieran who you'll always have, except maybe if your doing an ironman run and got them killed, but at that point i gotta ask how?
The thing about Naesala is that, once again, he does everything that he does for his people. There is blatant racism against Ravens, regardless of his actions. They are seen as sneaky and evil anyway. As opposed to fighting that reputation, he just does his best for his people. Then, in Radiant Dawn, he has no choice but to do evil. The blood pact forces his hand. He is hated in his universe, yes, but he’s not actually a bad guy in my opinion. I don’t think it’s fair to group him with the likes of Makalov and Lifis.
It's important to point out that he was under the Blood Pact the whole time, even if in PoR, the circumstances didn't force him to turn on the Liberation Army like he later would have to.
NAH! After we got Rafiel & his wife Nailah on last year's wedding banner I'm expecting Leanne & Naesala to show up on this year's (I mean It IS an implied pairing at least to me since it got referenced in Awakening)
DUUUUUUUUUUUDE, Naesala is one of my all time favorite characters in fire emblem history. He is just so damn well written in both games he's in! I think he is a big part of why the Tellius series are my favorite.
I still think Makalov's most unforgiveable crime is how he butchered Astrid's personality in RD. Comparing and contrasting him with Naesala is quite interesting, because the main difference between them is that Naesala actually has the skills and charisma that Makalov lacks. It's like the difference between a heist movie and a bungled burglary attempt. One is fun, the other is just sad.
Also Naesala was jumping through hoops because of something out of his control. That being the STUPID BLOOD PACT THE PREVIOUS RAVEN KING SIGNED! No wonder IS decided to imply that he had a happy ending with Leanne by having Sumia reference it in Awakening.
@@GatorRay He even managed to finagle a decent way around Lekain by directly reporting to Sanaki. It ultimately didn't mean much, but if not for the statues, he had a real path to tearing up the Blood Pact regardless.
One of the scummiest parts about Makalov, in my opinion, is actually a detail in his C support with Astrid. Basically, he bumps into Astrid, drops some flowers that he claims are to butter up Marcia, and gives Astrid a few. Knowing what we know about Makalov, it's pretty safe to assume he did most of/all that just to get in her good graces and leech money off of her. However, if Marcia is dead by this point, the dialog changes into him saying that the flowers are for her grave, instead. Trying to mooch money off other people and evading responsibilities is one thing, but invoking the name of your dead sister in an attempt to extort money off a naiive young noblewoman is an entirely new level of vileness.
@@somnus970 Naesala was just doing what he knew was good for his kingdom, it wasn't the best way as it brought more hatred against Raven laguz but he had no choice
14:35 Speaking of Oliver, you can actually recruit him and he has a pretty funny conversation with Ike afterwards in which Ike literally asks him to go back to the enemy’s side
Naesala is a great character in my point of view. Naesala have his reasons behind his actions, and he is portrayed as this guy that only does whats convenient for him and his nation. Makalov for me is more of a “realistic” character. Pretty sure all of us have this person in our lives that is a good for nothing , gambles all the money, it’s lazy , and does not pull their weight when needed. I like characters that have “these” negative elements because it makes them stand out more !
I love these three characters, especially Lifis, because he may be a coward, a manipulator, a liar, etc, but that gives him more character traits and quality screentime than half of Thracia 776's roster.
Polybius32 fe 5 actually has a lot of interesting characters with a lot of potential and background from fe 4, we just don’t see many dialogues which is the issue
@@arman_llc624 a lot of the roster is just one note though. Love the game to death, but Lifis gets one of the highest screentime, specially if you don't count the main "pseudo-deuteragonist" characters, such as Nanna. Plus, not THAT many characters have background from FE4, it's just some, who happen to be some of the most beloved in the game (like Fergus, for example)
Marcelo Katayama like I said you might think a lot of the characters are one note cause they don’t much diologue. Illios for example barely has any, but in a remake if they do give him more diologue he has a lot of potential to be a great characters. Same with amalda, salem, pern and a lot of other characters really.
@@arman_llc624 Look, when I said one note, it's because these characters typically only have 1 character trait, which is displayed in their convos or endings, and then they vanish from the story. Sure, a lot of them have potential, but that's just it, they have POTENTIAL, but aren't actually the good characters they could be. And that's precisely what we are discussing, not what could've been given to us, but what we really got. In that sense, Lifis has a lot more screentime than a lot of the cast, and a lot more characterization, which helps him stand out more and be filled with personality in a game where you have people like Alva or Delmud.
Marcelo Katayama did you not see my first comment? Thats literally what I said. I never said that the characters in fe 5 are deep, because most of then barely get any dialogue, all said that there’s a lot of potential if a eventual remake does happen, because they’re is a lot of chemistry between the characters, for example holmer, and nanna’s convo, or mareeta and shannam’s convo. I’m a lot more interested in these characters then I am in most of gba’s. You don’t gotta agree with me and thats fine
I love his character, but I hate how the games treated him. Even if you're generous and ignore the blood pact stuff (I wouldn't be so quick to, as sacrificing the lives of others for the lives of your own is already morally grey by itself) he's still a massive scumbag. And I love scumbag characters! But he gets off scot-free for his scumbaggery almost every single time. It's maddening sometimes how quick the other characters are to forgive him outright. I don't wish he were any different, I just with he got at least one good pummeling for the shit he pulls lol
Great video as always, Ghast! Btw, you actually slipped a little mistake at 15:35. "Safie is a Princess-" Uh, she's not a princess, lol. She's a cleric who serves the ACTUAL Princess/Duchess Linoan of Tahra.
I really like it when there are characters like these in a game, because they are not only interesting, but kind of accurate, i can think of a few friends groups where i meet people like these, they were good to have a laugh with, but you couldn't trust them because then they take avantage of you.
I was thinking at first this might be "the most hated by the fandom", but then it turns out to be the most hated in their respective games. Which is good! Because if it was, "most hated by fandom", a favorite of mine would most certainly made the list. lol
Normal Players: Bring Reyson or Rafiel into the Tower of Guidance Me, a Naesala enjoyer: Bring Leanne to get my man a nice ending with a beautiful girl
I imagine that Reyson's reaction at the wedding was similar in terms of how he rebounded when he saw his sister was happy as Innes's in Ephraim & Tana's double ending (Also there's a POSSIBILITY that Naesala & Leanne's double ending is canon because Sumia references it in Awakening. I don't remember where but I know that she DOES reference it)
Given that I'm a filthy casual that started at Awakening, my most hating character, bar none, is Peri. I hate this girl, not just because of the writing having to break other characters to make it fit around her, but because she's just damn horrible and I question how the writers thought such a character could possibly fit into Corrin's army. On top of that; I hate her design. The hair style looks ridiculous with that colour scheme, the way they have that black stuff go down her eyes when she's crying just makes me go "Ugh", and that smile just makes me sick to my stomach. My gosh, I hate Peri.
my guess is they tried to recreate henry, but forgot what made him so popular. they just took his personality, ramped up his bloodlust, removed his redeeming qualities, and peri is the result. at least she lacks plot armor, so nothing stops you from "miscalculating". honestly, though, it says a lot when her teammates have to break character just to tolerate her presence. a traumatic backstory does not excuse murdering on impulse
In case anyone needed another reason to hate Peri, besides being so poorly written she causes any character she interacts with to become worse by association, shes fundamentally flawed as a character. Fates' characters, and to varying extents characters from every fire emblem game, aren't super complex. Their personalities can be summed up in less than a paragraph, or for many fates characters, in a few words. As one note as many of these characters are, they at least grow to some extent. Through their supports, their personalities are expanded upon so that they become different people than they were at the beginning of the story. The most notable example I can think of is Charlotte, who in many of her supports is called out for her greed and deceptive nature. Her personality is expanded by being called out. Charlotte goes from being a greedy, deceptive and materialistic person, to someone who looks past a person's social status. Now, compare her to Peri. What words would you think of to describe Peri's personality? Childish, sociopathic killer, good cook- and that's about it. I'll focus on the support that's generally agreed to be the least bad support- Laslow/Peri's support line. In it, Laslow manages to get her to develop a bit of empathy towards the people she kills, and that I think is the biggest issue with Peri as a character, because she fundamentally isn't one. Her learning to not be a murderer effectively undoes 1/3 of her personality. She cannot meaningfully develop as a character without throwing out a major portion of her personality. In a more character focused game, or at least a longer game where such character development would be allowed to stick, I think she would be less bad if one could see her developing other ways to cope besides murder. As she is now, she's even less of a character than the rest of the fates cast. Just a few adjectives tacked on a candy coated outline.
People are ironically gate keeping over gate keeper. I refuse to interact with Fire Emblem Twitter, they just seem even worse than Pokemon when it comes to old vs new.
My guesses for the characters in the future videos would be Perne (strongly implied to keep slaves and only rescues Lara from slavery because of how young she was), Oliver (similar case except he explicitly keeps slaves, also Ike literally begs him to not join the army), Tharja (abusive mother, generally abrasive to the non-Robin members of the Shepherds), Peri (sadistic murderer with even less control over her impulses than Henry), Azama (less egregious than the others but just goes out of his way to be an asshole to everyone), and I feel like Felix was also kind of implied by the end of the video (similar to Azama where he's just an asshole to everyone, though Felix has better reasoning for being one)
Concerning the "hated in their own universe", the amount of rage and hatred Dimitri and Rhea alone toward Edelgard would most definitely put her on that tier
Those win it handily if you define it as ‘net amount of existing hate, competing love does not compensate’. The amount of essays on these 3 is staggering, especially since preciously little of the overly long stuff attempts a neutral position.
Dimitri makes sense, but Rhea never really hated Edelgard too much. She just considered her an apostate who must be purged in the scene in the holy tomb. (Which she sorta was) The REAL person she hated was Byleth in Crimson Flower as basically her greatest fears came true and Byleth literally became Nemesis 2.0, possibly killing the remainder of her people, (Setheth/Chiol, Flayn/Cethleann, and Indech. Maculi will always live in CF because his paralogue is VW exclusive) and creating a new society with the potential for it to be possibly worse than the previous system (crests) which were already pretty bad. Rhea DESPISED Byleth in CF as she basically was Nemesis 2.0. Nemesis was considered a hero in CF and Edelgard literally called Byleth Nemesis' successor. Since Nemesis literally killed everyone Rhea loved and Rhea still lives with the tramua, it's makes sense why Rhea would despise Byleth so much in CF, even if it isn't 100% justified. (She did go insane after all.) TLDR, Rhea never really despised Edelgard. She despised Byleth in CF. Every other route she's pretty chill even in timeskip. Only times she really snaps outside of CF is when she has the western church members executed (they did try to assassinate Rhea, but Rhea should have investigated them further before killing them) and when Edelgard raids the holy tomb. (She was praticlly stealing the remains of Rhea's friends and family to turn into bioweapons, so it makes sense why she was so mad.) I'm pretty sure Amyr is made from one of the remains that Edelgard stole while in the holy tomb, as it didn't exist pre-timeskip and is explicitly stated to be an "artificial heroes relic" and wasn't used by any of the 11 Heroes.
@@krimsonkatt I’m not so sure Rhea never hates Edelgard. It’s just that she regains her composure afterwards when Byleth isn’t involved. Post timeskip she doesn’t appear until Edelgard is dead so it’s hard to gauge.
@@krimsonkatt just a minor correction. indech does not die. he just stops fighting when he deems leonie worthy of wielding his bow. in fact, you cannot even bring edelgard or hubert to the paralogue, possibly to prevent such an event
Me liking at the makalov and neasala entries and dang I love both of them . Makalov cause it reminds me that people like him are real and sometimes people like him in a game is not bad to be added. As for neasala well. It amazes me that he's not more popular than tibarn . But you covered everything enough and thank you
@@FilthyCasualty Let's be honest here. Leanne isn't going to leave because Reyson is dragging him away, but because Reyson broke his hand slapping Naesala and now she needs to get him a medic
Considering her brother Rafiel was on last year's wedding banner with his wife (Or partner if you go by what their descriptions say) Nailah the idea of Naesala & Leanne being on this year's wedding banner isn't THAT far fetched. Being honest though I just want Bride Eirika (With her dress being based on the one used for bride einherjar from Awakening as a cute callback) with Groom Seth TBH.
Honestly imagining Makalov and Astrid's relationship as an American sitcom definitely elevates their character, plus these characters shoukd remind people that well written characters don't always have to be morally right, it gets boring if everyone in a story are good people which leaves the only confluct being external with internal fights not being as interesting, most of the time
The main reason I don’t really like the relationship is cause Astrid is just gets the short end of the stick. Makalov is just a dipshit while Astrid try’s to convince others that he’s not that bad. I don’t mind morally bad characters but it sucks when a nice and pure character is dragged down with them.
@@rhythmribbon6282 And? that's funny as fuck, if it was developed more it would've been good to like a kind character trying to deal with an idiot hopefully bettering him, but yeah in RD it's not great
@@rhythmribbon6282 Makalov is the primary reason why Astrid is at all interesting to begin with. She's capable of overwhelming pity and optimism and shows this by how she interacts with such a person. He also props up Marcia as she refuses to remove Makalov out of her life. Marcia takes the hard route because of her sense of duty to her family, and perhaps because no one else will. Astrid does it because she sees a side of Makalov that literally no one else can. It's not hard to think of some "nice person" archetype characters that would have left Makalov behind and forgotten about him. It's harder still to find people that would have no inclination to try to change or redeem Makalov. Also, Bastian's willingness to absolutely dunk on a fool is never not amazing.
My problem with the relationship is that Astrid's whole backstory is that she ran away from home to escape an arranged marriage to a horrible person, displaying an inner strength and independence that isn't obvious at first glance. Then, come Radiant Dawn, she's tethered herself to another horrible person. And sure, at least this time it's a horrible person she chose, but the whole situation has always just made me a little uncomfortable for reasons I can't quite explain.
@@wingedjellifish11235 There's a bit of a difference there, though. Makalov makes things horrible on a very small scale. Someone like a Begnion senator or Naesala has the power to make things horrible for millions of people and exercise that power.
I like that Naesala is ready to be the world word trash as long as his people can have a decent life. And at the end, he swallow the pride he had and let Tibarn unite the Bird Tribes, because he could provide them a better life
A character who needs more hate is Gilbert. The guy who decided that the only way to atone for failing to prevent the tragedy of Duscur was to abandon his wife and daughter without telling them, change his name, and get a new job at Garreg Mach. The degree to which this impacted his young daughter is a key piece of her characterization and motivation. Not only was this self inflicted punishment irrational, it was arguably more of a punishment to his loved ones than it was to himself. Even after Annette works her ass off for years of her life for the off chance that she'll see her father again, Gilbert still refuses to associate with her until their B support, which since Gilbert isn't recruitable until chapter 13, can only happen after the timeskip. In their A support, we see that Gilbert has been thinking of his wife and child, and writing unsent letters for years. The reason he gives for never sending them is that it "Belittled his penance." This attitude, as well as many of the other things he expresses throughout his time as a central part of the cast, such as his honor for Gwendal as a good knight for following orders in spite of the fact that he had just followed bad orders from a bad actor against his king and the church, make me inclined to describe him as emblematic of the biggest flaws with Faerghus's honor-ridden ideology that Felix so thoroughly hates. The problem is that, unlike other actions taken due to this mindset that the game clearly frames as Very Fucking Stupid, such as Miklan being disowned for not having a crest and Rodrigue declaring that Glenn's death was honorable and necessary, Gilbert's self flagellation is justified and made sympathetic by his supports. So yeah. Fuck Gilbert, all my hommies hate Gilbert.
While I do appreciate the fact that they had Makalov retain his...Makalov-ness in RD, I feel like they could have turned his character around completely, since it was implied at the end of PoR that he was going to get his act together. Like imagine the rest of the crew reuniting with him to see that he was this matured man. Then again, RD didn't really do a whole lot with the majority of the characters, even those who were returning. Naesala's story, on the other hand, is honestly one of my favorites in the whole series, just because of how good of a king he truly is, even if the rest of the group doesn't see it.
I actually really enjoy morally ambiguous characters like Makalov and Lithis; it really shows that people can come from all backgrounds in an army, and that you don't have to be a great person to fight for a good cause.
I think it's clear in retrospect that Naesala's actions in PoR were also motivated by the blood pact,. He is trying to play it off like he's an untrustworthy jerk to minimize the damage that can be done through him to his friends and allies, which is why he consistently warns people not to trust him. Relatedly, I'm inclined to believe him when he claims he intended to rescue Reyson after turning him over.
I was watching this on my phone on full screen mode holding it above me in the dark, so that transition at 3:48 made me think I was about drop my phone on my face
Naesala is so well written. He's the perfect example of a king who'd walk over bodies for his people. And it's fucking hilarious that he chooses to set countries up against each other. Imagine the history books: "and one of the greatest battles of our nation was caused by a backstabbing crow." Or that he casually sells his friend to a simp. He is the epitomy of not giving a shit.
@@firenze6478 is it true that the characters where "butchered" in the international versions of Fates? Or are they as weird and unlikeable in the japanese version?
@@sebastianramirez9090 I heard Effie is slightly better in Japanese version, but other than that they’re all one note characters taped to an odd quirk. They seriously ruined the awakening trio. It's pretty amazing how, despite Lifis being a terrible person, a lot of people who've played Thracia still love him. Maybe it's because he's the best thief unit in the game, maybe it's because with enough build levelups he can do some pretty ridiculous item shenanigans, but either way I can't bring myself to hate him like I can hate Naesala for example. He's a really fun unit in Thracia, and at the very least, I love to hate him more than anyone.
Lithis is entertaining beyond his role in Chapter 2X, even if he doesn't change his ways at all, constantly stealing enemy tomes during the Manster arc is amusing.
Daniel Buttram It’s even funnier when you give the unarmed magicians non-fatal injuries with low strength units, and then proceed to let them escape anyways
@@arman_llc624 perne is better thief when lithis don't increase his con 2 or more, if lithis with the scroll have good con gains, he would become better thief, another thing is that lithis is awful in combat and pan is a monster specially with scrolls. My Marcia was a bit underleveled, and I seriously considered giving her the kill on Makalov for XP. I mean, it would have been more value than she’ll get out of him as things stand. The only thing that stopped me is that I absolutely hate seeing dead characters at the end of my first playthrough. If/when I replay PoR, yeah, I’ll probably kill him.
I always find it somewhat amusing when some people say that they hate "evil" characters like Tharja, when if you actually took the time to get a glimpse of what someone like Tharja is *really* like deep down, they'd realize that as "creepy" as she is on the outside, on the inside she's actually very kind, compassionate, and considerate, and in at least one of her Supports she outright confirms that hexes and curses (which she uses) can be used to *help* people, not just harm them. And in her support with Nowi, when Tharja discovers that both of Nowi's parents are dead (as Nowi had asked Tharja to help Nowi find out more about her parents and where they might be so that she could hopefully reunite with them someday), Tharja lies to Nowi by claiming that they're "fine" but are somewhere very far away in an effort to spare Nowi the pain of knowing that her parents are really gone. Nowi easily sees through Tharja's lie (she *is* over 1,000 years old, despite how young she looks), but she still appreciates and is grateful that Tharja cared enough to try and spare her the pain and grief. Hubert in Three Houses is in a similar boat, IMO. As at first even I hated him as soon as I saw his first support with Byleth (where he outright threatens to *kill* Byleth to his/her face if Hubert ever decides that he/she is a threat to Edelgard), but his later supports and his supports with other characters (such as Bernadetta) show that while he can seem like an evil person, he's actually anything but (such as when Bernadetta faints on her feet purely out of fear of him, Hubert actually takes the time to carry Bernadetta to the safety of her room, all on his own initiative). And while I don't like Naesala on a personal level, I still respect that he takes his responsibilities as the Raven King so seriously that he would do literally *anything* for their sake. That is a sign of him being a good King (at least as far as his people go, which honestly should be Naesala's first priority at all times anyway). His penchant for treachery and backstabbing does still make me dislike him (especially since if he wasn't so prone to stabbing people in the back, he very likely could have just gone to someone like Tibarn to ask for help if something ever came up, and Tibarn would more than likely have been willing to help him out....but Naesala's treacherous nature has basically burned those bridges to the point that Naesala will more than likely end up totally isolated with no friends or allies left, sooner or later).
To be fair, he also inherited the blood pact with Begnion, and if he did anything they didn't like, like actually cooperating with Phoenicis and the other Laguz kingdoms, it would have been bye-bye for Kilvas.
@@Zekken_The_Lodestar Like what? A unique design? Peri is crap and everyone knows that. God, Fates has so many bad characters. Azama, Peri, Niles, Camilla, Nina, Hans, Iago, Garon, Yakamura, Anakos, that one kid from revelations, zola, Corrin, Elise, Xander, (pls don't hate on me) Selkie, Kaden, ect. They're all trash, though there are some good characters in Fates like Leo, Takumi, Hana, Nyx, Azura, Soleil, Orphella, the Awakening characters, (Odin, Selena, Laslow) Kaze, Midori, Felica, Veloria, Orboro, ect. Fates is pretty much spread out 50/50 for great character vs trash character. At least it isn't like Awakening with 75% of the cast being completely forgettable. (like, who remembers Virion, Shawl, Sully, Kellam, Sai'Ri, Gregor, Meriel, Yarne, Ricken, Not batman, ect?)
@@krimsonkatt she shows care for those she likes, she actually has a group where she tries to rehabilitate criminals in a support with Odin, and her past could easily show trauma as mentioned in a support with Laslow.
@@krimsonkatt And I agree with the spread out 50/50 characters and you said don't hate on you for Xander, but YOU hate on ME for thinking peri is at least good.
@@Zekken_The_Lodestar I'm not hating on you specifically, it's just my opinion that Peri is a crap character and I have no clue why anyone would like her. I only hate Xander because he wouldn't stop fighting and help Corrin even after her accidentally killed Elise and her final wish was for Xander to stop fighting and help Corrin. His supports were pretty good, (outside of Peri's) but that moment completely ruined his character for me.
These are always my favorite characters, I started FE5 thinking Lifis would be a Julian clone, and he ended up being my 2nd favorite character in the game.
I've always loved each of these characters. Lifis, unfortunately, falls victim to a very limited number of lines when he could have been a truly amazing character with more dialogue. I've always imagined the Manster arc could serve as an excellent time to redeem or atleast make his character empathetic.
i have an idea for how lifis can develop as a character. he is still self serving and a bit scummy, but goes from lusting over safy to genuinely appreciating her, and she eventually serves as his conscience. taken far enough, they could possibly even end up together, and lifis decides to atone for his misdeeds for her sake
Est is a character I now hate. For Spoiler reasons. although her design is adorable, she is a constant damsel in distress and leaves her husband after the second war for reasons known only to herself. This is made worse by Jesse hitting on her in Gaiden because it is so ambigous I can head cannon that she left Abel for Jesse all she needs is a line that says not wishing to endanger her husband she left, or something that justifies it. She is not hated in universe though so I do not know if it works for the sequel video.
Est actually acknowledges this in some of her supports in new mystery. She considers herself a burden to both Abel and her sisters. The implication is she left because she felt they'd be better off without her.
@@Superluigi881 glad they cleared it up in some of her supports makes me wonder why they did not change the ending dialouge to better reflect that? I figured that was the reason as I mentioned in my original post she still could have told her husband though or at least one of her sisters. I am not as mad now.
@@codystork3008 I mean if you still hate her, given her track record she probably didn't last very long out there on her own anyway. Which is a pretty horrible thought. I'm kind of sad now.
@@Superluigi881 its okay more than likely she went to heroes speaking of which wonder when they will discuss it? EditAbel goes after her in his ending so she may get rescued again.
I said the same with est. Constant need to be rescued and leaves her husband. She is basically female gray who is a reverse in trying to tie down the girl while being distant to his friends over a girl. Abel deserves better like his friend Cain which is basically the sully stahn marriage to me.
@@Zekken_The_Lodestar I think Ghast actually likes Tharja tho. He did a 2 hour support science of her where he basically defended her entirely and made some good points on why she's more than a creepy stalker, namely her support with Henry.
@@Underworlder5 I agree. Tharja actually has a lot of depth if you look deeper at her supports. Peri? Not so much. She's even more unlikable than Makolov imo. With Fates extremely limiting deployment slots, there's really no reason to use her rather than Corrin, the royals, Azura, and whoever Corrin has S support with. (I always pick Kaze) After that there isn't very much room.
I got the impression on replaying Path of Radiance that the blood pact, or some form of it, was thought up in that game. Neasala and Nealuchi have a few lines like "we have a toubled history" and "you have no idea what I've done to protect my people." I would even go so far as to suggest that the Senate wanted Neasala to direct those Daein troops to attack Sanaki's ship.
In Astrid's case vis-a-vis Makalov, do consider the following: in him, she managed to avoid an arranged marriage to Lekain. I'll be the first to admit Makalov's a scumbag, but the alternative in this case would've been far, far worse.
The problem is he's like most addicts. Needs help but refuses to take it because he has to start by giving up his addiction. You can't help someone who won't even try to help themselves.
@@floricel_112 I just really don't like the guy he based to much on real life scumbags and sadly I've a few like him, I made it clear to them that I don't like them because of who they are (I already knew their background before hand) and basically didn't talk them. I'm a nice guy but if I know that you like to mess with other people's lives I'm not going to associate myself with them....ever.
I made the mistake of restarting the chapter to get him because I suck and didn’t want to lose any opportunity to add another guy to my team. I regret having him here and now am considering the best way of letting the guy die.
another way to think of it: if the entire cast of a game was on a boat, and someone had to be thrown out to keep the boat from sinking, you would pick these guys without a second thought (then again, naesala can fly, so probably not the best analogy)
Might just be me mishearing, but I believe you called Safy a princess instead of a priestess. Again, might be me mishearing shit, but wanted to let you know
Naesala was actually being manipulated by the senators due to a blood pact which would quickly kill off his people if he disobeyed them, which we learn in the second game. So likely the reason he betrays Reyson and his obsession with gold is all likely due to him paying tribute and obeying the senators commands.
I honestly like all 3 tbh Naesala because I think he is pretty well written and despite Makalov and Lifis being terrible people I find them quite funny.
Nice video, i like when allies are not all white knights in shiny armor and it's nice to hear about those who make your barracks more lively! Makalov is surely a funny character whom i appreciate a lot (though i disagree with the fact he ruined Astrid, he seemingly stopped his act once he got money from her and even apologized and all so she's doing what she does on her own at this point), Naesala is my favorite laguz period and about lifis... i didn't play fe5 so i can't judge him. I hope Azama will be next in line for these videos.
I have a feeling that one of the Annas will be in the next video, and I'm pretty sure I know which one it'll be, based purely off the support conversations involving her...
Makalov isn’t even that hateable of a person compared to other characters who’ve gotten away with way worse, and yet their behaviour is barely questioned, and in some cases is even defended.
To me hated doesn't mean morally questionable, it's more like bland and boring. I'd prefer a hopeless evil character to a boring character that has so little dialogue or story that he/she should be a generic NPC. Examples are Bord, Cord, Dolph, and Macellan in Shadow Dragon. I actually like Makalov a lot because he's genuine lost cause unlike other characters that are heroic. Sometimes I feel like FE has too much heroic characters these good traits like loyalty and honor feel numb to me. I want unique characters that don't follow the usual hero cliché and Makalov fits perfectly lol I also like Oliver despite him being a slaver because his flaws (and fetishes lol) make him closer to a real person. Doushebags, womanizers (real ones like Beowulf in FE4 that sleeps with many women), slavers, gamblers, robbers... I like them all because they make the story colorful and less boring.
If it's tharja and it's just "tortures Daughter and wants to hex people" it will be empty and easy to destroy. Frankly she is one of the better written characters and it was future tharja that did the torture not our tharja.
@@daz1543 she was said to have the nicest body in the entire army and nowi talked about her "boingy bits" are white and soft and tell me that the swimsuit cg is wholesome to all eyes while asking robin to rub oil all over her body Even in the na release as eu is more censored. Fates rhajat is more chill raised in a better environment and she was a cute little girl in a sun dress before meeting Corrin and getting her past life memory back as she knows Corrin is just robin. Mirage tharja is tame but style is nice as she worked with idols while robin was with steam workers. Feh is just fine aside her Christmas mode that is still her trying to be a normal girl for robin is just fine personality wise. Base tharja is always with robin and wedding tharja confirms male robin is the canon one as she always calls for "him" and since she does get married one day I'm sure that's the dress she could have used being all black.
@@ivanbluecool I never understood why that's considered an excuse for Tharja tho. "It's an alternate version of her that tortures her daughter, husband and others." Like, why is that an acceptable excuse? Many characters don't descend to that level and don't need an AU of themselves to be less abusive.
@@l.n.3372 tharja is not that crazy with her daughter. Heck our tharja even treated future past Niore kindly when she had no reason to. Even by the end Niore chooses to stay to watch over herself and tharja is shown to be nicer than she lets on o many of the cast too. It's not oc it happens especially with nowi and the Shepard's she helps them all out. Also if you want alternative. That tharja also gave Niore the charm to keep her safe as all the kids had something of thier parents to relax them or help them. Plus she grew up in a dark mage family. That's probably already a bad upbringing if we compare tharja to rhajat who had a nicer life before she got her memory back when she saw Corrin. She will still do dark magic but she isn't abusive to be abusive.

It's an interesting thing, though it hasn't stopped some potential examples from being rather popular., though only Naesala would really apply. Though I'm surprised the reaction to Naesala backstabbing isn't "Oh it' tuesday" among the Laguz
I suspect Oliver would have made the list if he wasn't able to be recruited in RD, which crosses the line at least twice and carried over into heroes (His refine is basically made for Heron memes)

@@octopassi2528 This is Path of Radiance we're talking about. Four paladins are better than three.
At least he does redeem most of the bads he did, although it did took Leanne for that
Even the people who hate him are more outraged at his betrayal because they wanted to trust him.
It's important to point out that he was under the Blood Pact the whole time, even if in PoR, the circumstances didn't force him to turn on the Liberation Army like he later would have to.

They also have an ending together, so y’know.
Despite all the things he does, I really like Neasala
I love morally grey characters
Well it's really hard to hate him when it was found out that he was under a blood pact
@@somnus970 Naesala was just doing what he knew was good for his kingdom, it wasn't the best way as it brought more hatred against Raven laguz but he had no choice

To say nothing of the penultimate boss, who reacts to seeing him by BEGGING THE WORLD TO END FASTER
These recent scripted vids are SO GOOD, Ghast. Great stuff!
No one hates Naesala silly Faerghast
he did say "being hated in-universe" as one of the criteria
I love his character, but I hate how the games treated him. Even if you're generous and ignore the blood pact stuff (I wouldn't be so quick to, as sacrificing the lives of others for the lives of your own is already morally grey by itself) he's still a massive scumbag. And I love scumbag characters! But he gets off scot-free for his scumbaggery almost every single time. It's maddening sometimes how quick the other characters are to forgive him outright. I don't wish he were any different, I just with he got at least one good pummeling for the shit he pulls lol

I don't remember where but I know that she DOES reference it)
@@GatorRay I was talking about naesala and reysonb actually
@@Iam29941 Okay.
@@Underworlder5 Yeah pretty much.
And to be honest; I hate how people think Peri is Henry done better. She doesn't hold a candle to Henry.
the design combined with her name makes me think of a clown or court jester.
Tbh I never liked Henry much either. Why do people give Henry a pass? Because he has a Freudian excuse of a bad childhood?
So Makalov, Then
The most hated character will probably go to Gatekeeper after the CYL 5 results come out
Imagine unironically getting upset at CYL results 5 years into FEH and about a character that has a bunch of alts already
People are ironically gate keeping over gate keeper. I refuse to interact with Fire Emblem Twitter, they just seem even worse than Pokemon when it comes to old vs new.
@GoreMag As someone who uses twitter daily i 100% agree
I highly doubt it. There's a reason that dude is getting the votes.
@GoreMag I try to only use it for screenshots but my friends sometimes share threads with toxicity in it.
After hearing that BDG put Pern in the "What the fuck, Fire Emblem?" archetype, I knew I would hear Pern somewhere in this video.
Loved that video
A small correction for Perne. He actually let her go once he found out her age.
Azama is very nihilist but I can't recall if he's disliked by his support partners
Felix is very transparently well-intentioned, if an asshole, and I think his housemates generally do like him, or at least tolerate him.
@@MrGksarathyHis dialogue just reads like "You have PTSD? Skill issue".

Also she _did_ plunge a whole continent into a 5 years war before she even graduated
@@krimsonkatt I’m not so sure Rhea never hates Edelgard. It’s just that she regains her composure afterwards when Byleth isn’t involved. Post timeskip she doesn’t appear until Edelgard is dead so it’s hard to gauge.

@@straypaper
I like to think Naesala allows himself to get “beat up” but he’s really in no pain whatsoever because of how canonically weak herons are.

Scumbag characters are fun, I like using them cuz there’s something funny about putting them on the frontlines.

Animals in Nature Develop Bright colors to show off their toxicity. Makalov certainly knows his Animal Biology.

To be fair, he also inherited the blood pact with Begnion, and if he did anything they didn't like, like actually cooperating with Phoenicis and the other Laguz kingdoms, it would have been bye-bye for Kilvas.

i have an idea for how lifis can develop as a character. he is still self serving and a bit scummy, but goes from lusting over safy to genuinely appreciating her, and she eventually serves as his conscience. taken far enough, they could possibly even end up together, and lifis decides to atone for his misdeeds for her sake

“We have Marluxia at home”
Marluxia at home:
I love Naesala and I love to hate Naesala. The attractively-designed backstabbing bird-man lives in my mind (and many others) rent-free... sigh.
I will be questioning why if Azama doesn’t show up
To me hated doesn't mean morally questionable, it's more like bland and boring.
Oh no not Tharja.... she's a sweet girl deep down, I swear D;
If it's tharja and it's just "tortures Daughter and wants to hex people" it will be empty and easy to destroy.
Frankly she is one of the better written characters and it was future tharja that did the torture not our tharja.
Tharja feels flanderized in all her appearances after awakening, hell she's not even that lewd in awakening and covers her body with her tome.

I never understood why that's considered an excuse for Tharja tho.
Surprised Peri wasnt on here.
Makalov has the honor of being the only playable FE character I actively hate and have never come around on.
