I skipped school one day in the early 90s. I caught fred on a CBC day time talk show, Vicky Gabrioh. I was like 13 years old and had stumbled onto what has become the most enjoyable music and band I've yet to find. When I was about 25 I heard Fred playing on the local bootleggers stereo. That bootlegger ,seeing my love for Fred's music gave me ,a few months later, a red tee-shirt . On the front it said "your spookin the horses, on the back " and your scaring me! Around 2006 I think, i saw Fred play in Wolfville Nova Scotia at deep roots music festival. I bought a tee-shirt and Fred signed it for me. That bootlegge had become one of my best friends. I gave him that tee-shirt and two weeks later he died. But every time I hear spookin the horses, I think of and remember my old friend. Thanks Fred for the music and 30 years of memories that it brings back.
That’s a great story, thank you. Fred has been a big part of our lives too.
Fred will do that to you.
I sure miss the charity picnic, it was the highlight of my miserable little life ;)
@@eschneider8799 your rite. In some ways I find when I really get on a fred roll ,in that zone that the way he can make me feel the hurt or the alone or defeated that he is singing of can cause me to see my own trail as fairly easy . Looking in the rear view ya just as hard as the guy from trucker speed or dangerous lol but today things look a damm sight easier than that . Without Fred I may not look at it with them roses on the table .
Still one of the best performance on you tube! I listen to this often.
Best songwriter alive. Hands down.
one of the best song writters of all time. Nothing but soul
My God...real music, real instruments, real singing, real writing...I discovered you Fred through my brother, who played Dar William's version of your "Wilder Than Her", and wound up hearing your version. Great stuff. Thanks for posting. Great band too backing you up. Stand up Bass rules!
It's all relative. Jazz snobs would call this the music of simpletons
Who needs jazz snobs
@@buzzkill808raven2 What’s relative is that you made a simpleton statement. I’m a Jazz snob and I’ve also been a FredHead for 30 years.
I cry, most every single day!
Love the old school deadly freddly!
Young Matty Simpson tryin to fill Willie's shoes 👍
This is such an AMAZING LIVE RECORDING of all time ... FRED ROCKS
Fred is awesome . Driving 4 hours to see him in January. No trains where we live. It will be well worth it
Always a great show. Go out to see him if he comes to a town near you.
When I watch this. I can see Townes Van Zandt in the audience
I’m on another planet
From one Fred Head to others, great upload, thanks! Loved the way Fred has transformed his band over the years. Especially like that electric reverb sound! But, still like his older stuff! Seem him most recently in Cookstown Ontario and only about 50 of us in the attendance! He still gave a good show.what a constantly creative mind!
Fredhead for life! Amazing live show....ya gotta go if he's within a couple hundred miles. And if you're within a couple hundred miles of me? Good chance I'll be there - see him every chance I get.
PS - Rest in peace Willie P Bennett
I was needing a Fred Fix, this show just did the trick...thanks for the muse Mr. Eaglesmith.
It’s such a great set. I come back to this video way too often.
Luke and Matty great combination.
So great. El Paradiso made possible a few legendary concerts (Chuck Prophet's version of "After The Rain" is the best I ever heard!)
Fred is my best friend!!!
thanks so much for sharing this video. he is mostly touring in canada for 2018, so i won’t be able to see him live for awhile..... fred and his band are awesome, and his stories between songs are as good as it gets... another reason to love canadians...
Years on, it was awesome seeing this. What a great band. Thanks Hans!
We love ya Fred. A heart, a guitar, and a poet's tongue.
Had the chance to go and see him on tour when I lived in Den Bosch. Wish I'd gone now!
Stuart Seaton Fred is a blast live... and deep.
doren garcia Strap on?
simple beauty - simplesmente maravilhosa, obrigado, tanks!!
I almost cried - the "he's a good dog" song is exactly how my dog is. - Love Fred
Visited Pembina River Nights enjoying Fred for many years. Still go, but miss Fred no longer there.
Nice very cool song !!!!!!!!!!!!! Very cool!
Thanks!!!!!!!
whoever put his/her thumb down on this one - you must have been out of your proper minds; i.o.w.: this is simply great
...i'm speechless with a grin from ear to ear...
Thanks for the upload!

That is bad ass vest!! And of course always great sounds from Fred
There are some good ones. Fred is one.
Fantastic music. Truly impressed!
I was at the Paradiso in Amsterdam BACK in 1970. From what I understand it is still the same.
I was also....think I saw The "Soft Machine" but I do remember my chisim !
thanks for uploading the whole show! I been cursing my fate ever since the Fab Channel is down :-(
Nice, thanks.
41:09 Best rendition of this song coming right up.
Saw him two weeks ago at Valens, going again in two weeks in Burlington. Go Fred Go
Fred is the best.True.
Nice work guys and Mary spoke highly of you to in Glasgow last year!
Great musician and a fantastic entertainer, if you pay money to see Fred and Company, you couldn't have spent your money any wiser!
wow ...so wonderful
Now I had a great evening with Fred!
Tempted to drive down to Kansas City for the March show. This band gets it.
I hope you got to see that KC show.
10 thumbs up
Fred is dope.
13:56 preach it fred
Fred loves his reverb!
its tremelo
@@alanoates9855 sounds like a Vibrolux
WOW
I can’t get over the drummer dressed as an officer from Star Trek. Also I find this to be the best line up. He needs to come back to Winnipeg.
The drummer is Kori Hepner. Fred had so many great bands that it’s impossible to pick the best one.
I met the then touring line up in 2013, I believe Kori was a part of that line up. I had fun talking to Justine Fischer. Good times all around. Thank you for your reply.
not all you say is funny, but i hope you are doing well enough, hell of a songwriter you are.
When was Fred not funny? I must have missed that particular show.
@@dunebillyofswanbeach4294 very funny, yes. gallows´ humor at times, was what I meant.
Gallows humor would fit, yes. The only time I’ve ever seen Fred get cross was when dealing with a drunk and obnoxious heckler. Even that was funny in a manner of speaking.
I could picture that, haha.@@dunebillyofswanbeach4294
Often Fred’s stories to introduce a song can be three times as long as the song itself. The subject of the intro may change over time but the tales are always humorous and insightful. About the only show that I ever saw the Flying Squirrels do without the stage patter was one night in Princeton, NJ where the band was playing in front of a houseful of well lubricated college students. The band cranked out tune after tune with hardly a word spoken in between. That was during the ‘50 Odd Dollars’ tour. It was an interesting but odd experience.
I cannot find name of song first played
ua-cam.com/video/MvIcOOL6BFw/v-deo.html
I'm pretty sure Fred apparently doesn't care much for UA-cam if u ever been to a show he prefers the live experience the ticket
Love fred but whats with the the over saturation of reverb?? OMG!!
Why did they rewrite Time To Get A Gun?
assles means watjes in dutch
Where's fucking WILLIE??????
Willie died in 2008
If you look, this performance was 2007.
And if you watch the performance Fred talks about Willie's heart attack and how he won't be back with the band.
@38 Fred says Willie had a heart attack but he's fine and as you have said most likely won't be back with the band, So that's resolved.
Willie died.
I love fred but he could have used a real drummer
if this was recorded in 2007 Kori had just joined the band right about then. she wasn't even a drummer when she started.
You are spot on yako, this was early in Kori’s tenure as drummer in the band. She held the drum chair for years and did a fine job.
