  • Have you heard whispers that the Pennsylvania Game Commission is in cahoots with car insurance companies to reduce the deer herd or the agency trades our turkeys to other states in exchange for coyotes? Captain Chad Eyler and Furbearer Biologist Tom Keller join host Matt Morrett to dispel the most common myths swirling around social media and hunting camps.
    Episode Highlights:
Has the Game Commission ever stocked coyotes?
Does the agency relocate trapped turkeys?
Do car insurance companies have any input on deer harvest quotas?
Are there mountain lions or feral hogs in Pennsylvania?
Are fishers and martens eating all the state’s turkeys?
Do multiple ear tags mean a bear has been trapped and relocated multiple times?
Are Game Commission initiatives funded by taxpayer dollars?
Does Game Commission staff understand what’s important to hunters?

Thank you so much for this interesting topic and great conversation. I hadn't heard most of the myths discussed, but at least now I'll know if the topic comes up :) We have large turkey flocks in my neck of PA. 19:50 so glad you addressed how you can obtain road kill that we often see just rotting along the road. 24:47 We've never had so many deer as we have now, they completely wipe out entire sunflower crops and there seems to be nothing we can do. Groups of 10 or more are common. 35:09 So glad you mentioned Big Foot! I recently made a joke about that was inundated with information from those who claim to have seen one. 53:21 haven't seen a muskrat in many years. Great group of guys, thanks again.

These myths are live and well here in Pa. It cracks me up as to how fast this stuff spreads. I've always been one to delve into wildlife beyond just a cursory look, so when I hear these things, I try to find out the source of this misinformation. Sometimes it comes from people that should know better, or they won't correct the silliness of some of these assertions. Did you know that when hummingbirds migrate, that they will sometimes hitch a ride on a Canada goose 🤣🙃🤔😛

I know this guy whos sister-in-law's cousin's neighbor is a guy who knows a State Trooper and there was a truck that overturned on I-80 near Clearfield. Anyway, the truck was loaded with coyote that were tagged with PGC ear tags..... I have heard this a million times.

I thought it was a good comment about how the purchase of a hunting licence not only protects hunting species, but also many other species as well 😊

I have been a hunter since 2019, in my country I have never hunted, it was too difficult and expensive, but here in PA I received a hunter’s card, bought a license and am ready to hunt))) I like it

A game officer is a person commissioned to enforce the law, but they are also supposed to be teachers, be careful who you give a ticket to, that person might save your life some day.
