The Temptations movie used a lot of creative license. Richard Street was eventually used to assist Paul, Williams from an offstage microphone, to augment Paul's weakened vocals, when Paul would get winded during performances, due to the sickle cell anemia. The group began traveling with oxygen tanks for him. During Paul's special solo numbers, he did not need help from Richard, only during backing vocals. Richard was not enlisted because Paul was too drunk to perform. The movie exaggerated that scenario. While Paul did self medicate with aocohol, the issues with performance had a lot to do with the physical pain he experienced, and breathing issues, while performing. Check it Out! Ciao!!!

Yes I truly dislike that movie!! I understand you have to say and do things in a supposedly true to life movie to make it interesting but to portray people that we all know and love even when we alreadyknow some of the story to crush those guys that way and hurt their families is deplorable!! Otis ex-wife,the Distants ex- manager, Melvin's mother, David's stepmom and his family tried to sue Otis, Susanne De' passe company and I think Motown, not sure about MT for the way they portrayed them and their families in that movie. And to not One time mentioned that Paul William was suffering from sickle cell and depression, fear of being replaced or dying. Plus he had a side chick that ruin him financially, then portray him as a hopeless drunk was awful. Watch some of those after David was gone yt videos for yourself and see if you see any time that Paul was stumbling all over himself and not performing properly. At live shows people would havel been able to notice if he was not singing at his Mic because he was drunk, get real!! Richard Street said himself that, Otis didn't care about people. Once he was in the hospital, and when Otis got in touch with him, he started cussing him out about where is he and Richard told he had been in the hospital, all he said was"oh":not what happened or how are you doing" how foul is that and trying to pretend to act like he's better than the other guys. All that crap about David saying "ain't nobody come to see you Otis'" is a lie. Leon said he adlib that line himself , he thought it needed to be said in the movie, because of the Otis character lines in the movie. And Eddie was in concert and from the stage he spoke to his daughter telling her to tell her mom that he signed the birth certificate. We will never know why he didn't want too, maybe he thought it wasn't his. We don't know because it happens every day. And all that about who was sleeping with who, so what they were not the only ones. Don't just say it was Motown it was a lot of other record companies doing the same thing. And Her videos and many others are reporting the same old same old. Her story is so inaccurate and off The Primes manager name was Milton and it was Otis that called Eddie to come join his group. And Shelley called the shots on the Temps not Otis, Otis went to Shelley, Shelley went to Berry. Berry really wasn't concerned about them at that point, only The Supremes!! None of them!! Marvin Gaye was messing around with two of those Marvelettes at the same time, now tell me why songs coming to them Dried up. But that was those people business!! Leave those people alone, let them and their families Rest. Peace to you all!! And Be Safe!!

The Temptations was the Baddest Male Group ever.. my favorite of course the Original Group. But after Davies Ruffin was fired, they hired Dennis Edwards who kept them on a steady pace. When they sung “ Cloud Nine” which won Motown their very first Grammy. Out of all of them beautiful Love Ballads that David and Eddie lead, what Dennis sung ,put them on the highest level that you could be on. They also won their second Grammy when Dennis Edward led them on “Papa Was A Rolling Stone”. But I believe Dennis could sing with any Group.I always loved the Temptations except this group now. Everyone loved Eddie and Paul. They fought as kids, and singed in the church. Eddie wanted to be baptized before he died when he was in the hospital and they made accommodations to have that done. Paul didn’t come back home. Nobody and I mean NOBODY believes Paul killed himself. Eddie was never the same after Paul died. They were like brothers. Use to sing Doo Whop together on street conners. Love your story telling Nay. As someone who grew up during the Motown explosion--anticipating each new hit--and reading every article in Ebony, Jet, Soul Magazine, and later on books to keep up with my music idols, accuracy is important when conveying info. As you know cocaine was the big thing back then and many entertainers tried it, did or were doing it--some recreational and some habitual. They were all doing 'cough syrup' too to help keep their voices on point as well as for the high. The 60s and 70s were fun times with pill popping, drinking, weed smoking, 'cough syrup', and snorting nose candy or 'booga suga' as you call it. The early 80s took a sharp turn when crack hit the streets. The devastation in the families and communities was horrible and things were never the same. Many entertainers had one drug of choice, others did two or more, some did primo, still others did whatever was in the building! So please be sure to differentiate your time periods and drug usage a little more clearly. It was confusing. Also if you can find any old books by the author Tony Turner, a Motown roadie, he shows a whole 'nother side to it all. I've read many musicians' books and understand your interest in the legends. Keep bringing the legendary music history Sis. You are valuable to the culture.💕💕

Eddie might have experimented with drugs. According to those who knew him best, he was no drug addict. He drank, but most of all, he had a very serious cigarette habit. I hate when they add smut to a story about a person or just get the facts wrong. Eddie was not known to have a drug habit. That was David's demon.

The Copa Cabana was located in New York City. The group also recorded an album, "The Temptations Live At The Copa", in 1968. That was the first album to feature David Ruffin replacement, Dennis Edwards. It was released just before they scored a big hit with their album, "Cloud Nine", which kicked off their "psychedelic era", which lasted until 1971. Sly and The Family Stone inspired Otis Williams, and producer Norman Whitfield, to present this type of music to the Temptations. Check it Out! Ciao!!!

Eddie was a crackhead? That's not true, I don't believe that. In fact, Dennis Edwards said that he NEVER saw Eddie use drugs. He said "Eddie's bad boy was a pack of cigarettes". I won't say he never experimented with drugs, but he was no drug addict.
Furthermore, Otis Williams was not the founder of the Temptations. He was one of the "co-founders" of the Temptations along with Eddie, Paul, Eldridge, and Melvin. However, Otis did consider himself the BOSS of the others and imposed his will on the other guys. He hired and fired many members. He was shady and sorta underhanded. Till this day, he still holds a grudge against Eddie for whatever reason. Watch David's funeral video. Of all the Tempts there, Otis was missing. It was apparent that something shady had been going on within that group down through the decades, and that Otis played a major part in it. He now pretends that he, alone, was perfect and had to keep everyone else straight. That's not how it really was. Otis was the least talented member of the Temptations. The group's sound wouldn't have missed a beat without Otis. Because, he had less talent, his only way to claim fame was to act the part of the badass slave master. Which is why so many guys cycled in and out of the Temptations. Eddie💋, David and Dennis were the voices. Ain't nobody was coming to see you Otis 😁. THE END!

If anything the rest of the group should have voted to get rid of Otis Williams because as we all know Otis couldn' sing his way out of a bag and if you notice he didn't have any lead verses all he had was a couple of spoken words and still sounded like shit.speaking of Diana Ross she got everything handed to her 'she sang lead and got top billing only because she was banging berry Gordy but before that she been with almost everybody in the tempts and I hated that most girl groups sang better than Diana Ross got passed over.

Thank you Nay this is so nice but I have a problem with Otis being blessed to be last Temptation still alive. I’ve read every book and article on the Tempts and from Otis vantage point he was the only stable one. Otis is the least talented of all of them. I don’t think that Otis is giving us a fair assessment of the David & Eddie. Susan DePasse did not care for David or Eddie and she helped him to write those books. I feel that Eddie had a whole lotta talent and could have made it further if not for the diagnosis of lung cancer on 1992 at the tender age of 52,

You're right! I've also read everything I could get my hands on. Berry was jealous of Eddie for multiple reasons. Diana Ross was head-over-heels in love with Eddie with his tail handsome self. Women were automatically drawn to Eddie because he was sorta quiet and shy and very SEXY. Berry was not. He couldn't make Diana forget about Eddie. She once said that "Eddie was every woman's dream". Eddie sang like an angel. Berry couldn't touch him in that area either. Eddie won hearts without even trying because he was such a quiet, handsome, charming man.
Anyway, Berry and Motown had Eddie under contract which is why he stayed with Motown and continued to cut records under their label after he left the Temptations. Because of the envy, and because Eddie pounced across the desk to fight Berry once, Berry and Motown refused to properly promote Eddie's solo career. Spite! Some of the most beautiful music ever recorded is by Eddie Kendricks during his solo career: Never Gonna Leave You. The Girl of My Dreams. Honey Brown. Baby. Tell Her Love Has Found The Need To Leave Her. Good Night Pillow. Happy. Intimate Friends. If You Let Me. Skipping Work. Eddie's Love, etc. Besides the songs that did top the charts after he left the Temptations. If they backed him properly, Eddie Kendricks would have been an even bigger star.😘

I love your spirit! You are the most free spirited and comical person on UA-cam! The name of the group that Otis and Paul Williams was with along with Elbridge Bryant was called The Distants (not The Drifters). The lead singer they lost was Richard Street, who left them because he had got Diana Ross pregnant and wanted to do the honorable thing and marry her. However, she never had the baby. He would join back with the group after they became The Temptations after Paul's performance was no longer up to par. The original manager of The Primes was Milton Jenkins. It was producer Norman Whitfield who determined the direction The Temptations would go with their material (not Berry Gordy) and Shelley Berger determined the direction of their live material. It was Sam Cooke who opened the door for R&B singers at the Copa, and, based upon his success during his second appearance there, Berry booked The Supremes, then The Temptations and the rest of his most successful acts.
Eddie Kendricks never wanted to leave The Temptations. He wanted to do what MIchael and Jermaine Jackson did back then (and others do today all the time) and do a few solo albums but remain with the group. Everyone agreed (as evidenced by their signatures on the back of his first album) but, at the last minute, they changed their mind. He was still under contract so he could not leave Motown. As bad as Eddie Kendricks spoke of Berry G, it was Berry who bailed him out when he got arrested at David Ruffin's funeral and who allowed Eddie to be one of the few artists to receive writer's credit during a time it was not Berry's policy to do so (unless you sang with Smokey)!

Otis said in his book that they all dabbed in drugs. Even in the movie there's a brief scene when Eddie went to David's house to talk and David handed Eddie the straw to hit some lines. The movie didn't mention Dennis doing drugs but he went to rehab. I guess the drugs was just a thing in that era.

@@bronzebeautybrown3949 With all due respect ma’am I really don’t believe anything from that movie lol. I don’t look at that movie as a biopic for the simply fact that they withheld information and changed a lot to fit “Hollywood standards”. For example Paul, they didn’t tell us he had sickle cell they just made it seem like he was drinking to drink when that wasn’t the case, and that’s just one example there’s other things that didn’t sit well with me when it comes down to that movie. So when it comes down to that scene with David and Eddie who can really verify that really happened?
