- More info about travel to Berlin: www.ricksteves.com/europe/germ... In Berlin, Germany, socialist realism - the art of the communist era - actually went beyond censorship. Art was legitimate only if it actively promoted the state. #ricksteveseurope #germany #berlin

This is capitalist propaganda. Yes the DDR was not perfect, but diverse artistic expression was allowed. I know because I lived in East Berlin. No one liked the Stasi situation but no one wanted to be annexed by capitalism either. The truth is much more nuanced. That is why it will never be heard. The hope was social liberalism and economic socialism. Now the hope is economic socialism and socialism liberalism. To find the balance between liberty and equality always.
East Germany was just fascist
Feel the Bern???
All communist propaganda is like the same, this and North Korea today has very similar designs.

I don't like Communism but I am glad you replied, with your inside view, having lived there. Perhaps you & other Germans can work for something like Scandinavian social democracy?
@@rexracernj7696 Germany has social democracy. The issues that come up, include gentrification of Berlin. The social Democrats sold all extra apartments to Investors and then to China to pay bills, this caused a housing shortage. So housing prices go up and people are not use to that.
Or the fact that corporations will not create industry in the East. Contrary to popular belief Genossenschaften Cooperative like Konsum existed independently from the East German state. So new cooperative industry might be good rather than waiting for neoliberalism to deliver. But this means that people will need to take initiative and create jobs for themselves but could use help doing so.
@@matthewkopp2391 The Stasi Is a result of Western spies in West Berlin, the Berlin Wall is called the "Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart" the US imperialists and its satellite states created Ratlines to recruit former Nazis for NASA and the puppet West German government and NATO.
Look up Adolf Heusinger, Hans Speidel, Kurt Waldheim, Walter Hallstein and Warnher von Braun.
"Equality" is useless.
:D
Life would be too boring if everyone is equally equal! Nein danke!
So du bist pro Rassismus und Armut?
Hopefully you show this to Hillary.
+Mike Maloney Word. Respect from Sweden!
+Mike Maloney The Irony huh ? lol
+Mike Maloney lol, your channel.
+Mike Maloney - I'm blown away by how many people still believe Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are socialists.
+Amanda Tessmer I'm blown away by so many people that act if they are the authority of defining words that nobody else really can ... In the big picture all states are socialist ,some just act as if they respect individual rights more than others. As far as the Progressive movement of the socialists Hitler copied and supported all of that platform... while basically becoming the king of using propaganda .
A very cold and rigid culture.
Not really. East Germany had culture unlike West Germany.
Quite the opposite. Germany or Europe in general has a very interesting and great culture. Culture, communities and love of home were also very important during the DDR era. Folk songs were sung in the DDR, there were flag appeals and local festivals were celebrated.
@@beurteilung713 Propaganda isnt culture.
@@satany9444 You know I once saw some old footage from East Germany where some NVA soldiers were watching people in traditional German dress dance to folk songs. No lederhosen though, I think that is because it is a Bavarian tradition but I could be wrong.
All the posters and guff about the rona you see right now is propaganda on a similar scale
Does anybody know where I will find the communist art at the start of the video?
