How and what sources?? My great grandmother was eitherhaliwa saponi or Cherokee from the part of GA both she n my great grandfather were from.( i forgot that part too but remembered both tribes.) I dont speak to my grandfather side of the family to know.
I was the only white person to dance with them when the audience was invited to join the Veteran's Dance. I danced in memory of my two grandfathers who served in both world wars. It was in 1992 when the Haliwa-Saponi visited Alfriston Zoo, in East Sussex, England, to commemorate 500 years of 'white civilisation' since Columbus. Their Medicine Man called me 'The Searcher'. I took my 2 year old daughter with me and the following day, I returned for a second time when I recorded about 90 minutes of their performances and speeches to the audience on my cassette machine. My daughter still remembers her "Hey yah, hey yah", music with fondness.
Definitely will be attending next year's pow wow! My aunt traced my family's ancestry to the haliwa saponi tribe. And I want to learn more!!!!

Hope all is well safe travels
Very disappointed to see the flags of the oppressor displayed at our tribal ceremony. Our gathering of spirits. Sad.
