Wanna know something that makes the gyro situation even more irritating? the Switch tablet itself actually has motion sensors of its own (those of us who have spent a notable amount of time with the Labo kits/Game Builder Garage know this, certain segments of the VR Labo software straight up talks about how the Labo VR headset can still track motion without joycon attached because the tablet has motion sensors), meaning it could be possible for devs to patch in the motion to be tracked by the tablet instead of the right joycon into their games, but they just haven't.

      @yonathanloekito6284 2 роки тому +4

I think it’s impossible to seamlessly change between tablet gyro and controller gyro. Since the switch doesn’t know whether they’re docked or in handheld or if the controller doesn’t have gyro control, users have to tell the game everytime which gyro they want to use. It’s just going to be a bad design.

I think the main reason the Hori controllers have a patchwork of features is because they're Nintendo approved 3rd party controllers and they're not allowed to step on the Switch Pro controller's toes, by taking out one or more of NFC, rumble, HD rumble, wireless, gyro

Hori wouldn't even have to do anything on their end to fix this issue, Nintendo could with a software update.
The Switch's main body itself actually has an accelerometer and gyroscope built in, so it could really be used without even having the joycons attached. But that has yet to be activated in any games other than Labo titles to my knowledge.
I'd really love a software update that could check against the controller and activate the consoles gyro if you have another controller besides a joycon attached. I'm doubtful it will ever happen, but I can hope.

I have the monster hunter rise hori split pad pro ones. Ive had them since the month the game itself released. I found all the pros and cons you mentioned but although a lack of gyro controls is annoying for some games, I generally dont miss them. The extra comfort these grips give is greatly appreciated as my wrists are destroyed when I use standard joycons for long handheld sessions. I didnt know about the attachment so you can use them in docked mode. I would still use pro controller over the hori ones when docked but its good to see progress. I love the art on them too. I leave them on my switch while docked as they look great displayed! Overall I rate them 6.5/10. They would get a 6.8 if the price wasnt so high for what your getting.

If you’re looking for handheld controllers with gyro, the NYXI joy pad controllers are a very nice alternative. I have both the Hori Split pad and the NYXI, and while I really like the Hori’s, I do prefer the NYXI.
NYXI has adjustable rumble, gyro, customizable LED’s and they have their own batteries so they can be used detached from the console. They also feel more comfortable, as they have a rounder grip which allows you to curl your fingers around it. With the Hori’s, I had to rest my fingertips against the back of the switch to get a comfortable grip which resulted in the oils from my skin leaving marks on the console.
What I prefer about the Hori’s though, is that the buttons and joysticks have a better spacing. The right joystick and the ABXY buttons are slightly too close together on the NYXI, so my thumb will rub against the joystick when reaching for the Y and B buttons. The + and - buttons are also a tiny bit more awkward to reach on the NYXI (at least for me, maybe people with larger hands don’t have that problem).
There was also an issue with my left joystick on the NYXI, feeling quite stiff when moving to the upper right. There seemed to be something stuck there, but I opened it up, cleaned it out with some alcohol, and it felt much better.
What never happened with Hori, was the controllers disconnecting midway through playing a game, which is something that did happen with the NYXI. Not sure if that’s a common or recurring problem, as it hasn’t happened again, but it’s something to keep in mind.
Overall, the NYXI feel more premium and comfortable to me, and they give you a lot more features for a better price, which puts them above the Hori split pad for me. And the white ones look so classy, I’m a bit sad I ordered the black ones lol.
Just my two cents, and a recommendation for people looking for joycon alternatives 😊

Hori sure sent a lot of nice stuff over, seems like there's a good working relation with the channel? Surely you're in a good position to put the word in that tons of current Split Pad owners would love to buy the middle attachment on it's own without spending $80 on yet another pair.

I have the black and gold pikachu ones and honestly I love them! I’ve got large hands so the joycons feel so tiny and fragile so this has been a brilliant purchase for me. Not too fussed about having gyro controls I don’t really use it in games anyway. To be honest my biggest issue I have is that the ABYX letters are coming off the buttons so now they’re kinda just black but it’s not exactly a major issue (unless I’ve been playing Xbox a lot because the button order throws me for a moment 🤣) but it does lower the overall look of them when there’s half an A and a bit of gold on the buttons

I have these controllers too, the pokemon one. I really like the controllers, they are so nice to hold. Better than joy cons for me. That they don’t have gyro is to bad. But I guess you can’t have it all.

So I got the split pad for sale a while ago. I was actually about to return the but they shipped too fast and I was unable to cancel. I reluctantly tried them and immediately canceled my return.
These things r awesome. I now use a thin switch case for my switch and games alone and throw that in my backpack in the laptop compartment.
As for the split pad they are durable! I just throw them in a compartment backpack with a zipper. It has its own dedicated section on my bag and it works. Been doing this for.about a year and a half and works perfect.

I actually used my pair, the Pikachu/Eevee ones, for most of my Legends playthrough! I never turned on the gyro to begin with, so when I switched controllers at around 10 hours in, there was no change for me either way - but now in post-game, I'm feeling curious about gyro and I'm hesitant to move over to my joy-cons again. They feel tiny now.
Oh, and that USB-adapter. I want one.

Personally, I swear with the NYXI Joypad Controllers. They may not be officially sanctioned by Nintendo, but they work great. They're large enough for people with big hands like me, they feel great in the hand, and they have all the features the Hori joycons lack, i.e. wireless, gyro, rumble (not quite HD but close), they look good when plugged in on the switch (flush on the front) and get charged that way (they can also be charged separately with a USB-C cable), they even have the turbo feature and the mappable button on the back the HORI joycons also have, as well as their own middle part accessory to be used as a single controller. And they're dirt cheap compared to official joycons. I've used them when playing Okami HD and I swear the motion controls felt more accurate with them than with the official joycons. I'd say if the drawbacks of the HORI controllers are really a deal-breaker to you, I'd advise to try those out. They're really worth it.

Sometimes I feel weird for really liking rumble as a feature. All the reviews I watched of the spilt pad Pro or that power a premium controller a while back the reviewers are allways like oh no rumble but whatever... Granted there are games where rumble is overused or used in an annoying kind of way but some subtle feelable feedback really helps with the emersion in many cases. I don't know waht a pair of motors cost but is has to be quite a bit since rumble is missing in so many third party options.

I'm in the hunt for a way to play on hanheld mode more comfortably. These were the first thing that caught my eye. But I feel the same way as you, no one puts that much focus on the rumble, but for me is very important, up to the point it's a deal breaker for me and these great looking joycons. I've seen a couple of other alternatives with rumble and gyro, but they don't seem to have the same build quality as these.
If these had regular rumble and gyro they would be the perfect joycon. But like a said, no rumble is a deal breaker for me. I guess I'll get a satisfye grip.

I have both the Hori Split Pad Pro and Satisfye grip w/ slim case bundle. They both cost me the same about $49. I don’t play big Nintendo games I mainly use mine for indies. So what I don’t like about the Hori is that it lacks any vibration. I don’t need HD rumble but at least rumble for some feedback. On the satisfye grip the vibration goes through the rubber protection to the plastic grip itself to my hand and that’s enough feedback for me to know I’m about to die on a game or something. So I recommend going for a Satisfye grip than the Hori Split Pad Pro.

The Holy Grail would be to have a pair of full featured Joy-Con with the form factor of two halves of a Switch Pro Controller. Use them while connected to the system or wirelessly while they are attached to each other via a center piece, essentially creating a Pro Controller anew. That's my dream, but I doubt Nintendo would ever do it, even though it's the best idea ever.

Those exist. Look up the Coiorvis Joycons and the Mobapad M6 - they are Chinese replicas of the Split Pad Pro but they both support gyro and rumble. They aren't Chinese knockoffs either, they use ALPS joysticks. You'll have to import them right now but they're both well worth it. The main difference between the two is that the Mobapad M6 has mechanical buttons and the Coiorvis can be used wirelessly. Both have fantastic DPads, triggers buttons, the works. HIGHLY recommend getting one of them.
