This is my favorite song in quite a while, so I'm going take a minute to gush. Impulse combines Culprate's incredibly detailed composition and sound design abilities with Au5's capacity for gorgeous and bright anthems, resulting in a multi-faceted experience that is beautiful, complex, and immensely cathartic. Divided into three movements, each part carries into the next in a sweeping musical journey across an impressive variety of sonic textures and moods. This could easily come across as disjointed, but each new introduction calls upon what has been established previously so that every instance feels not only earned but necessary for the complete experience. The first movement is the most avant-garde, building from an intro featuring Au5's powerful chords and melodies into a complicated drum rhythm with jazzy chord stabs that clearly leverages Culprate's experience with forward thinking releases such as Deliverance. This cerebral section of the music naturally draws the listener inward toward their own mind where they are able to process the unpredictable and densely syncopated rhythms. The arrival of the second movement launches the listener outward as Au5's influence takes the spotlight. A sharply textured bass generates forward momentum while a powerful melody gives way to a wailing solo, conjuring images of epic landscapes and distant horizons. Impulse's final movement once again brings the listener inward, but into the body rather than the mind, as a dark and driving bassline takes complete control. Combining Culprate's expertise in twisted and carefully detuned bass with Au5's talent for main-stage-dubstep energy, this section is pure catharsis, bringing with it the pure exultation of letting go.
So I don't really know either of these artists and I only found this song through osu! a few years ago. 2 years ago in school we had to read the running man by Stephen King and I put my music playlist on shuffle while listening to it. This song kept showing up while I reading and I quickly linked this track to the book. To me the running man's world really has this mysterious and menacing vibe to it and I think the melody and that breakdown at the end prefectly represent that. The book quickly came my favorite book because I love everything that has to do with dystopian futures (im also a big black mirror fan :p) and everytime I think about this book I hear this song has the perfect soundtrack for a perfect book.
Everything about this song is perfect. It’s literally my favorite track ever. I listen to it so sparsely so I don’t spoil it for myself, and each time I listen to it I notice a little more detail. It’s just incredible.
I feel the exact same as you. I have a harder time listening it to it sparingly. I wish there were more songs of this caliber. Do you have any recs? I have one for you that is of the same level (different vibe) - Frequent 'Tom's Battery'
Love this (as I do most AU5). As a New Yorker, further erodes my anti-Jersey bias :) And am now excited to do a full inventory of Culprate to see what gems lurk in their discography.
Wes Pomeroy I can at least speak for Au5, if you like this, you WILL love his work, his remix of Oddssey by Akira Complex you will adore. Similarly, his song Reiteration is great too, Au5 is truely a hidden gem IMHO.
AMEN! HALLELUJAH! THANK YOU YESHUA! THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL MUSIC! WOW! VERY POWERFUL! PLEASE CONTINUE TO MAKE MORE FIERCE MUSIC! PRAYERS AND BLESSINGS SENT YOUR WAY TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

Dangerously delicate drumlines. Nice work guys
Still quite possibly the best electronic track composed to date. I'm not even joking.
Might be my favorite track from 2017. It literally sounds like it’s from outer space.
I love the long tension at the end!
To me, this gives off galaxy/space vibes. I really like this song
There we stood, where the spires pierced the sky, and dreamed of the future to come.
Haha, it's the flavor text for an osu achievement relating to this song! Sadly, I didn't write it, but I do agree that it sets a great scene!
