What’s the movie Mean Girls about?
Raised in the African bush country by her zoologist parents, Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) thinks she knows about "survival of the fittest." But the law of the jungle takes on a whole new meaning when the home-schooled 15-year-old enters public high school for the first time and falls prey to the psychological warfare and unwritten social rules that teenage girls face today.
Invited to hang out with the most exclusive clique of the school “The Plastics”, she will fall in love with the leader’s Regina George (Rachel McAdams) ex boyfriend Aaron Samuels. Engaging in a tricky double dealing, Cady will progressively become like the rest of the group and lose herself in the process.

Great detail! It's also the same when they pulled up in the car. Regina is the one who drives. Gretchen gets the passenger seat as #2, and Karen is relegated to the back

Its because Regina thought that Janis was a lesbian when she was Lebanese. This caused conflict between them cause you know bigotry. It got explained in the last part of the movie.
It would be interesting if Janis used to be a mean girl and be like them, like all light and pink dressed and blond hair. Then transformed into the goth look lol

She had things she liked and disliked about regina. Gretchen on the other hand was obsessed with regina, I get it she was insecure, but not everytime some 'super hero/heroin' is gonna come in your life to make you realize you're being manipulated. There is always gonna be another person ready to take over you even if you set yourself free from the first one unless you actually realize you need to step up your confidence. Regina knows she is the queen who has the power to influence everyone, and you can't change her attitude by just saying she is toxic on her face.
And she would turn on them in an instant to save her reputation

I think it's also to show how far can Regina go, no matter who she's hurting.
I don't see why. "The plastics" are part of Regina's identity. She probably formed the group on the first place. Anyone disrespecting the plastics is disrespecting Regina, so she has to defend them. Plus, she can't be totally horrible to them or they wouldn't bother hanging out with her at all.

I think it's interesting that when Cady said she will join the mathletes, both groups (the plastics and the artsy rebel duo) has the same reaction and both even called it "social suicide." Both groups reject that really genuine side of Cady.

When I was in the high school, I was attracted by the " mean" type of girls. When the years passed by, started to think that the "shy" type of girls are the real "diamonds" - down to earth, smart and disciplined. Maybe we are getting wiser with every year, at least most of us.
