The tone is that of a young woman wistfully accepting that the fleeting glory days are gone; That the magic of this song and of her success were barely in her control and that now she must embrace a new future with strength and maturity.
more like a mix of the accepted fate that older times won't come back, but new times would be in the making, especially with that closer circle of friends (fans) ... I am one of them friends.
I've always loved this more the original version. It makes me think of a late autumn/early winter day, sunny, and the chill of a mild breeze, with me hiking alone on some country trail. It's late enough in the year to feel sentimental about the time that's passed, and it feels like the morning could go on forever. It also makes me feel old - the original song came out when I was still in high school - but in a good way; it makes me think of my life and what I've overcome.
I like this song. I liked this song in 2000 and I liked this song in 2012. The original recording sounds like a talented girl whose broken through veil of obscurity and doing her first big single for the entire world to hear, it sounds like hope, youthfulness, and excitement. This recording over a decade later sounds like a veteran woman whose gone through the motions of being an artist and has finally found that sound she was always looking for. The contrast is what makes this great.
I love this version because she probably has walked over a 1000 miles since the first song and so much time has actually passed. It's totally different now that she knows her personal growth since then.
I guess I'm one of the few who prefers the original version which sounds more laid back and carefree. Heard this song when I was still a kid. Certainly brings back some memories.
She's so wonderful. This song is so old, yet everybody still loves it. Now that she's done something like this to it, it makes it enchanting. It's a masterpiece.
So rare to find comments this old and noone has commented. It's so nice knowing the fact that this comment passed through 2014 2015 2016 2018 and 2017 and 2019 untouched
Sounds like life changes a naive sweet girl into a deep/experienced elegant lady, like chocolate transformed into coffee, and i love this her. anyway, sigh that's just life......
I honestly love the change in her voice; I'm distinctly reminded of Blink-182, because both the band and Vanessa have matured a lot; go compare Dogs Eating Dogs to Enema of the State, and you can hear the differences between their now and then. Miss Carlton's gone through a lot of changes, and not simply her age; even just the differences between Be Not Nobody and Harmonium show a lot of growing up, let alone going all the way through to Rabbits On the Run. I really can't wait to hear what kind of sound she has with Liberman, since she's said it herself that it's definitely an album to have your headphones on for.
those were the long days in small world and them she came and intoduce me to new world, she was one of few artist from which i started listening music and still do. even listening to her changed voice tell how times pass her by. you still rocks.. now let me drown in your music.. 👍🤘🙏🎶🎶
Making my way downtown Walking fast Faces pass And I'm home-bound Staring blankly ahead Just making my way Making a way Through the crowd And I need you And I miss you And now I wonder If I could fall into the sky Do you think time would pass me by? 'Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles If I could just see you tonight It's always times like these When I think of you And I wonder if you ever think of me 'Cause everything's so wrong And I don't belong Living in your precious memory 'Cause I need you And I miss you And now I wonder If I could fall into the sky Do you think time would pass me by? 'Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles If I could just see you tonight And I, I don't wanna let you know I, I drown in your memory I, I don't wanna let this go I, I don't Making my way downtown Walking fast Faces pass And I'm home-bound Staring blankly ahead Just making my way Making a way Through the crowd And I still need you And I still miss you And now I wonder If I could fall into the sky Do you think time would pass us by? 'Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles If I could just see you If I could fall into the sky Do you think time would pass me by? 'Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles If I could just see you If I could just hold you tonight
This acoustic version is amazing, I think what wonderful time it must have been when this song was on the radios instead of Katy Perry. The change in her voice is just to prove that she's capable to do something different, once her three past albums was all in the same style (but all wonderfull in their own way), I love her new style the same way I love the old style, but there's not an old Vanessa and a new Vanessa, she's the same amazing girl singing songs that touch so deeply in me.
Absolutely beautiful. Riff or no riff, it never fails to impress. But without Vanessa, there is no 'A Thousand Miles.' Santa will be jammin on his sleigh this year.
iTunes currently has this version of the song in their 69-cent-per-track "No. 1 Hits" playlist. That's a great thing; it means more money for the record label that's actually fair to Vanessa.
Rabbits On The Run is definitely the best out of all 4 albums. No matter how different she sounds, she's still my favorite. That's what makes a true artist.
I'm biased towards slower, acoustic versions of songs - that aside, this is beautiful and the singer has such a lovely, beautiful, gorgeous voice - outstanding xx
Even through the ages, no one can ever change the feeling that everyone has of just coming back to "home". No matter what "home" may be, that feeling of going back to that place where we are loved can never be changed. I don't care if this sounds different, it only shows so much raw emotion. A persona who is desperately and joyfully wanting to come "home", compared to a persona who've realized how much they have missed "home" and now just can't wait to see the warmth of "home".
I definitely don't miss the 'old' Vanessa like so many comments here. Vanessa put out her greatest album to date with Rabbits on the Run in my opinion. But she's just gotten better and better musically since Be Not Nobody :) I never listen to it anymore. I listen the hell out of her other three though. You've just gotta embrace the new stuff. It's not what you're used to, but if it's still brilliant music, it doesn't matter.
I miss the old days when i would be riding home from school listenin to vanessa's songs on the radio and she was one of the biggest singers at that time.....:'(
This song is just as popular in Finland too, everyone seems to know it and usually love it too. I really liked this version, it's sweet and totally luvable.
I love this woman so much. She sounds so mature in this one :) God, I remember when I was a little girl and I heard this song for the first time... now I'm 17. She's one of my role models, and will always be :)
i love this version of the song, though i cant tell if maybe due to age but her voice seems deeper or this is on purpose. Either way i love how she sounds in this version, but both versions are awesome.
This is your wonderful year of 2002 done with a dreamy acoustic guitar! This is included in her Christmas EP "Hear The Bells" released last November. I wonder why other people would make fun of this beautiful song. This is not White Chicks and this is not entitled "Making My Way Downtown". This was just some clean, decent attempt to fight bubblegum pop back then. This is definitely a classic. Vanessa Carlton, I love you since I was 13! =)
I agree, Rabbits and Harmonium are my favourite records of hers. I actually like this acoustic guitar spin she put on this song, it's just as good as the original.
Krisan Alfa Timur I actually really like it! As much as long as I like songs such as this one and Ordinary Day, she sounds a lot more mature and developed. I'm no expert in voice, but she seems to have more of a range with each album. Overall, she's got a lovely voice to match her beautiful lyrics now.
it sounds like shes going for a more folky sound, and i think it sounds quite nice. guys honestly your opinion doesn't matter because she will probably always only be a one hit wonder so she can do whatever she wants now
Maybe people wouldn't be so shocked about her voice having changed if they actually stuck with her all these years instead of just looping the 1 or 2 songs that got radio play back then. Some of us have stuck with her for years and have watched her mature all this time. 4 Albums, 7 Singles, 1 EP, and 1 Best Of. Not all of us dumped her after A Thousand Miles.
I think some people are being over dramatic, I love this version as much as I love the original, but all artists have to grow and mature at some point in time, it's a very dangerous thing to duplicate yourself as an artist because you never want to sound the same all of the damn time ! I'm an artist myself and, in my opinion, you have to keep moving as an artist, while keeping the sense of the music that was before present, I think Vanessa has done an amazing job at this, keep on rolling Vanessa

The original is good but this, this is amazing and on another level of soulful.
I love how artists sing their old catalog on occasion. Shows how much they've matured in their art
I like this song. I liked this song in 2000 and I liked this song in 2012. R.I.P. moving piano
Because it was hit on "Nolita Fairytale". 😁
True
@@wenthang But it made an appearance in the video right after in Odinary Day
@@joeythecat6334 Ordinary Day was made first before Nolita.
You made me cackle
Her voice changed so much!!
for the worse
I love this version because she probably has walked over a 1000 miles since the first song and so much time has actually passed. It's totally different now that she knows her personal growth since then.
And now you've walled that much 4 years later :)
Why am I only hearing this version now? It's beautiful. Miss you Vanessa Carlton!
I'm appreciating this new arrangement more than I did the original. Change is the only constant.
i love the voice of vanessa carlton!
her voice is so soft and clear.
I guess I'm one of the few who prefers the original version which sounds more laid back and carefree. Heard this song when I was still a kid. Certainly brings back some memories.

I sang along to this video to my cat and I think he liked it 🥺
omg, an animal nessaholic lol
I love her voice and music !!!❤️❤️❤️

Yes that true she has a beautiful woman and a beautiful voice I like all his music so nice and romantic♥♥♥

I always love this song..in what ever version..still Vanessa...
I love this new version. The original version was more happy, but this one seems more melancholic.
This version has a very calming effect
Making my way downtown
Walking fast
Faces pass
And I'm home-bound
Staring blankly ahead
Just making my way
Making a way
Through the crowd
And I need you
And I miss you
And now I wonder
If I could fall into the sky
Do you think time would pass me by?
'Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you tonight
It's always times like these
When I think of you
And I wonder if you ever think of me
'Cause everything's so wrong
And I don't belong
Living in your precious memory
'Cause I need you
And I miss you
And now I wonder
If I could fall into the sky
Do you think time would pass me by?
'Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you tonight
And I, I don't wanna let you know
I, I drown in your memory
I, I don't wanna let this go
I, I don't
Making my way downtown
Walking fast
Faces pass
And I'm home-bound
Staring blankly ahead
Just making my way
Making a way
Through the crowd
And I still need you
And I still miss you
And now I wonder
If I could fall into the sky
Do you think time would pass us by?
'Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you
If I could fall into the sky
Do you think time would pass me by?
'Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you
If I could just hold you tonight
parfait! adoure the cello/violin.
her voice is in sync with the instruments; does not overshadow, or undermine~
very naturel, raw & pretty~
bravo☆
the piano riff is the soul of this song
It's incredible ... Without a doubt one of the best songs in history. I love
Elias Pérez I agree
Totally agree
Is this really her? Sounds like a completely different person, still good though
her voice is completely different, but still being one of my favourites!
Anyone?? 2020? Lockdown?? Pandemic? COVID 19.? Hoping everything was okay like 11 years ago?
Personally I wanna go back to this era😭😭😭

I adore this version
She grew up, she made the song in 2000, when she was 20 and now shes 31.
Always Listening to this Song, because it remember me of someone me and my family loves💔💔💔🙍

So soothing and nostalgic.
I think the fact that I can still sing along with her is what matters.
Absolutely beautiful. Riff or no riff, it never fails to impress. But without Vanessa, there is no 'A Thousand Miles.' Santa will be jammin on his sleigh this year.
This perfect when u try to practice the piano part😁👌 Thanks a lot❤
Oh my goodness. This song just made me cry. Her voice is absolutely amazing. Better than the original, for sure.
Love it but I miss the piano!

one of my all-time favorite songs. miss the piano, but this gives me a chill for sure.

I' ve been singing A Thousand Miles since I was really young, it was my favorite song because my voice sounds great in it
same
I love this version, it's so soulful.
Rabbits On The Run is definitely the best out of all 4 albums. No matter how different she sounds, she's still my favorite. That's what makes a true artist.
Love this version of the song xoxo Vanessa has a more mature and clear tone!
That's a good arrangement, very raw.
amazing song
Still my favorite since the good old days
I'm biased towards slower, acoustic versions of songs - that aside, this is beautiful and the singer has such a lovely, beautiful, gorgeous voice - outstanding xx
I love it nice song well done

I miss the old days when i would be riding home from school listenin to vanessa's songs on the radio and she was one of the biggest singers at that time.....:'(
my favorite version❤
She has a beautiful voice.
It will never be the same without the hum-along-worthy violin and piano riffs.
But on a different note, her voice is wonderful now.
Still love her voice :)
me encanta =D
J'ai grandi avec Thousand milles ça me bersait qu j'étais toute petite. J'aime cette chanson et je l'aimerai toujours
This song is just as popular in Finland too, everyone seems to know it and usually love it too. I really liked this version, it's sweet and totally luvable.
God this is amazing!!! So wonderful hearing this cool new version of the original! Can't wait to listen to the others on the EP!
Wow, what a wonderful voice this girl has loved!
amazing!
Her voice is less high
Acoustics usually don't have high notes so yeah...
Either way i love how she sounds in this version, but both versions are awesome.
i've never bored for listened this song, when i have a journey and i see highway from behind my car, nice like in her videos :)
It's so sweet

So raw. Beautiful.
R.I.P Moving Piano on the road I like this but I like the piano ;(
I agree, Rabbits and Harmonium are my favourite records of hers. I actually like this acoustic guitar spin she put on this song, it's just as good as the original.
i love vanessa carlton very much.
her voice has changed. she grow up a lot.
i miss her sweet voice.
Who else thinks that her voice is much more better when she grows up?
no one

Of course! Santa needs to travel a thousand miles to deliver the gifts :) :) He would travel a thousand miles to see everyone tonight!

So chilled , so cool , hats off
BEAUTIFUL. she has grown so much :)
This version makes me cry lol
Vanessa, I would love to hear you record another piano version of this song. Your voice has matured so much. :)
This one needs more views!
