+Nick Nelson Thank you, Nick. I really appreciate the positive feedback. Let me know if there's anything that I can help you with picking out the right C6.
I own both, c8 and a c6 and the c6 is more a muscle 6 spd manual fun car to drive, c8 is a very refined luxury sport super car, i kinda like the c6 better, not sure, im on the fence
damn, nailed it, the aux port is honestly a biiiig deal for me and you are the only person i have seen that has mentioned it. i you have my subscription
Nice video. I just bought a 2013 velocity yellow C6 Corvette with a manual transmission. There was a 2014 C7 on the lot for a couple of grand more, but I went with the C6. So far, I'm loving this car.
I had a 59 Vette. I loved that car! Mine had a hard top and a convertible top as well. I lived in California then and when I could, I would drive to Santa Cruz on a Saturday and enjoy the day! My girlfriend who I was engaged to at the time, liked to ride along with me! We had a lot of good memories in that car! I miss those days!
Great Video. When I retired I bought 4 yr. old , 1 owner , low milage 2008 , C6 , Indy edition , 3LT . Bought it during Feb. Got a really good deal . Always wanted one since I was 13 , when I saw my first 63 split widow , in a Chevy show room . Although there are newer and more powerful models . I love my C6 .
It's definitely worth it to mention that c6 Z06's (and all LS7's) will need the heads examined to make sure they are in spec, this is the number one failure point for the 06-11 z06's (it was supposedly fixed for 2012) but all LS7 engines are susceptible to this issue and should be examined to make sure they are in spec or replaced with aftermarket heads. Low miles Z06's are actually the ones to be most wary of when buying used because the head failure usually happens under 20k miles. Higher mileage cars can actually be more reliable because they have shown they don't have the head issue.
just bought 2013 427 with ls7, 59k miles and driving perfect. guessing i have no need to worry about my heads having that problem as it would have most definitely shown by now, and since wasn't an issue after 2012?
@@chrism3784 All LS7s should be checked. Just get a CNC port job and have the guides fixed at the same time. And might as well throw a cam in there while things are apart. I removed my factory heads at ~50k miles. They were sloppy, a ticking time bomb. An LS7 car with CNC heads, cam, cold air, and headers is a pretty amazing value.
Thanks for the enjoyable video. A couple other 2008 coupe/convertible options were a high performance 2.76 Rear End and Mild--to-Wild Exhaust (+6 HP). GM promoted the 436 HP 2008 C6 to hit 190 MPH, the Z06 198 MPH and soon, the 2009 ZR1 broke 200. C6’s are said to be a bit slipperier than C7’s due to smoother body panels, hence the speeds at top end. Performance and rarity seem to govern demand and prices followed by external factors like season and economics. I bought my 2008 convertible optioned with Jet Steam Blue on Black, 3LT, 2.76 rear end, automatic with paddles, Mild-to-WIld exhaust, and polished aluminum wheels with 19K miles at $35,500 Jan 2010. That was near half OEM price at 2 years old purchased in winter as the recession hit. It was traded to the original Winter Park FL GM dealer for an Audi R8 at their sister Audi dealership. I upgraded to Michelin Pilot Sport non run-flats for better all-around handling and remote controller to manually open/close the exhaust system at lower RPM’s for fun. At 50K miles, I enjoy this Corvette more every time I drive it. I bought the best one I could afford, yet, I admired the C6 ZR1’s handling and performance most.
Great video and commentary. I had the privilege to enjoy my boss's c6 drop top convertible before purchasing it's twin a half a year later. This time proved to be some of the best times of my life. I'm most grateful and miss my loved ones more than anything in the whole world.
I personally love the C5 but wish it had the C6 rear. I just love the sleek look of the front end of the C5 and they're very affordable. I just haven't found the one I want with the manual transmission.
I’m looking for a daily driver base model c6. Probably a 2008 with a manual transmission. I’m gonna leave it bone stock besides some borla mufflers. Im not worried about having a super fast car. Just a nice cruiser with a stick. Maybe some nice road trips as well. I’m just worried if it’s expensive to maintain.
The 2009 CSR is a unusual trim level. It has heads up display and power drivers seat, but the rest of the trim is base model. I like it because there are very few out there. One of the most rare options.
Hey man thanks for the info i got my first vette and its my first sports car, 80k miles 1 owner and got it for 10k . Im loving it and happy with it and no issues , rides great . I don't think i got a bad deal but my next car is a z06.
That was a great year for the vette, 400, 505 HP is plenty for a fiber glass car . The C7 ZR1 WITH 755 HP SUPER CHARGED 150K IS OVERKILL YOU NEED DRIVING LESSONS TO DRIVE IT. GREAT VIDEO.
Got the LS2 with 6 speed auto. Its a bit slow in changes but the ranges per gear are great . Away from the traffic lights with he hydromatic is really good.
6-disc CD was not available with Nav. NPP exhaust added 6hp to 436. Z07 package added magnetic ride control, previously the F55 for Grand Sport and ZR1 then to Z06 and standard by 2013. Dual-roof package available. Aux-port exists on 3LT and 4LT after 2010 as well as USB audio. Bluetooth will not play music, phone connection only. DVD player only works for Nav-disc. Xenon headlights available. Manual 6-spd Grand Sports have the Dry-Sump oil-system and better gearing. Launch control added. Ram-air-style hood on Grand Sport and above.
I would also highly recommend the "dual mode" exhaust upgrade. Additional HP and a really nice sound. After-market exhausts can be tricky for these cars.
I was going to look at a 2007 Z06 and started to check them out. 5ere has been a major problem with LS7 engines dropping exhaust valves into the cylinder. They heads can be fixed, by a competent shop for about $1,500 to $2,000. If the valve drops, it will cost $16,000 to $20,000 for a new engine, or you can scrap the whole car. Check the video on Jason’s Garage about this problem: LS7 valve head drop It scared me away, unless I find a good deal and someone local who knows how to do the fix.
I don't understand how you can call this the ultimate buyer's guide when you don't talk about the issues with the LS7 dropping valves or the early LS2 losing the harmonic balancer
My awaiting in this video was totally *not* nailed. All the data and changes are maybe interessting but it's easy to look it up on the Internet. Before I buy a car, I always do a research about the options and changes over the production time. Then I choose my favorit (trim, Options, model year...). .................... After that I only want to know, where I have to take attention of, what are the most issues of the model I've choosen, what are the most defects or so. This is what I'm awaiting of an "ulrimate" buyers guide. Answers of the issues, problems etc...............….. And then, after 8 minutes of data (without good pictures added, which probably show the trim levels or option, you've mentioned and pointed out in the video - so I have to look it up on the internet anyway!) I thought: now the hints and tipps are following, what is especially to take care of at buying the C6. Nothing. General information which every buyer takes an eye of. Millage, condition, owners...… This is not what I was awaiting of an "ultimate buyers guide".
Thanks for the info it made me narrow down on which year I wanted. I recently bought an 08 corvette with the z51 3lt package, and I absolutely love it.
if you're going automatic and don't want an ancient outdated gear box you'll have to go 2012 or newer, they are going around $27k-$40k where i am. The 2006-11 have a 6 speed auto, but it doens't have rev matching, literally feel the delay between shifts.
@@Dante_S550_TurboI bought a 2012 grand sport automatic with 26k miles on it and it was about 35k. That's about the price you'll be looking at if you want a good c6 with a clean record and low mileage. If you want the most enjoyable c6, definitely get the 12-13, it's the years where they more or less perfected the c6, especially for the automatic variants.
Worth noting that the factory harmonic balancer on the LS2 is only good for around 50K miles and is a $1,200 dealer fix. Look for a wobble and a belt chirp.
Amazing video & very informative. Was looking for one as a weekend car but wanted to know true difference in years & trim and this knocked it out the park!!!!!!
You may want to check if two common problems have been fixed. Has the harmonic balancer been replaced? The 2005, 6, and seven models have a possibility of the balancer working its way off the crank and eating serpentine belt as a prewarning to a possible damaged crankshaft. This fix can cost $1500 or more. The second problem is the automatic trans lock in park does not release easily and can be frustrating waiting for the solonoid to "wake up". The dog locking it in can be cut off eliminating that problem.
I just got my 2006 C6 2LT corvette for 12k it only had 2 owners but it does have 240k miles but it is a clean title nothing is damaged the seats are in mint condition and I did change the radio to a Kenwood touchscreen display and added a rear camera and a front one I’m gonna be daily driving it so it is an automatic but with the 6 speed auto honestly it’s an amazing car fast and reliable and I’m not kidding when I say this but it literally has better MPG than my 99 Sierra with a 4.3 lol I’m currently in high school rn but I’m planning to cam the engine soon though
I've always wanted a corvette every since I was 13, now I'm 73 and found a 2007 base model with 73000 miles. The guy that owned it kept it in the garage with a cover over it. He only took it to dealership for service. He recently purchased a set of michelin tires from dealership, New brakes, harmonic balancer and shift cable It came with 2 tops, one is a smoked top, that never been on the car. The color is atomic orange, no flaws in paint, it looks like it just came off the show room floor. All I did was change air and cabin filters. I paid 25 grands for it. I believe I'll get years of service. It's only for the weekend. Interior is in mint condition. I wished I could send you a pic.
Life has become a bit overwhelming. So, it was only 2-days ago that I drove my C6 Z51 6 speed vert for the 1st time since October 2018. I forgot what a F@#$&(/ thrill that car is. It has a Corsa Extreme exhaust on it. Between the SOUND and making the tail swing sideways, in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, it's truly therapeutic.
please start uploading more of these Corvette videos because in love them! Gonna get a c6 GS. Thought of buying a Z06 but it has the valve issue and that makes me super nervous when buying one.
+Howni Seal Thank you! I'm currently working on a buyer's guide for the C7 Corvette. It sounds like you've done your homework on which model to go with. I think the Grand Sport is a great value!
The Grand Sport is like Z51 in Z06 clothes(not even close to a true Z06). A rip off. Steel frame(with aluminum and magnesium structures), not like the Z06 all aluminum frame and a magnesium roof. Not nearly as light. 270 lbs to be exact. Yes you get wide tires and an LS3 but all you have to do with the Z06 is replace the valve guides for bronze and swap the exhaust valve external material. Or just get new performance heads with better valve guides. Or just get a z51 for cheap and add Z06 panels and new wheels and tires. Just a suggestion... You do you!
I know this is an older video, but I wanted to add that the targa I believe wasn’t available in the ZO6 original the L1 car. Targa was only available on steel frame C6s
6 :00. My fav Corvette of all time and just purchased an almost new low mileage one the other Saturday, in Ohio. the 427 Corvette convertible is absolutely incredible, but expensive.
Back in December of 2017 I picked up a 2006 Victory Red C6 Corvette Coupe with a Automatic this time around to add to my small Corvette Collection. I also own a C2,C3 and C5 all Coupes with Standard Transmissions. I have been driving Corvettes and owning at least one just about all of 50 years going back to 1970. Back to the 2006 Coupe when I picked it up it only had 14,300 miles on it and looked showroom new even under the wheel wells. To this day I am still guessing as to what trim package it actually came with bringing me to this You Tube Video this morning. I purchased the car privately and got most information paperwork with the car that I filed away that I don’t happen to have in front of me but don’t remember finding out the trim level of it. Hoping someone can give me a easy way to find out. I can mention here that it has Heads Up Display and the factory Double Din Radio in it with GPS and it has heated power seats. That is all I remember at the moment although I can also tell you it didn’t come with slotted rotors. I hardly drove it this past year. Presently it is sitting covered in my large Pole Barn with my other Collector Cars. I did mention I made sure that this Corvette would be a Automatic. Out of 7 Corvettes I have owned over my lifetime this is my first automatic and at my age still living in NJ with the kind of traffic we have here nowadays I welcome a automatic and really like it. Years back when I was younger I would of never considered it.
I really wish the c2 ran a little longer that's my favorite generation but probably also the most expensive and rare to buy. Ik even if they made more it would still be expensive but the more made would help atleast a little bit 😅
My thing is, why the hell is there such a huge gap in how much people want for their Corvettes? The price disparity is absolutely insane I've noticed since I started seriously looking..
+SuzuRyderHD All of the different models, trim levels, and options can definitely make a huge difference in price. You could find a "2009 Corvette" for anywhere between 25k to 70k. The average person may not be able to distinguish the differences between a base model and say a ZR1 for this comparison. Good luck with your search! I hope you find the right Corvette for you 👍
Guys wont sell thier low mileage garage kept, pampered cars for less than what they believe they are worth. See the same thing even more so with the c5 corvetts!
great video,im on my 6th corvette since my first one back in 1971. the 2005 model was a nightmare for me. massive electrical problems. the last model to have an analog onstar module.
The 6spd transmission on the Z06 in 06 and 07 was the T-56. And from 08 on it was the TR-6060. Some people prefer usually either one. The 06-07 were the lightest versions on the Z06 as well.
The 6060 is stronger and better shifting. There are also a lot more available gear sets available for the 6060, if you're customizing or building a Magnum version.
When I first heard about what happen to me , I thought the guy was lying or joking but here is what happen. Traction control light comes on but no problem so I kept driving. The street was wet but it was not raining. Came to a stop light. Turned green and I let out on the clutch like regular --- all of a sudden my car did THREE -3- donuts in the middle of the intersection. lucky I hit no one. When it stopped the motor shut off and was hard to start. So shut down everything as in re-boot. Car started up like nothing ever happen. I heard of this before and did not believe it. I have a 2005 vette convertible that runs great except for that one incident. went to the dealer and they said "NEVER HEARD OF THAT". any body else out there have this happen?????
Scotty N The C7 is really a C6b, an emergency measure after GM went broke. I also don't like the styling, its way overdone and years later, the rear tail lights are still hideous. With the Z06 C6, still more car than anyone should have.
Love 2010 C6 Grand Sport. C7 interior to me has a cheap look and feel. The c7s rear end especially lights belong on the Camaro and take away from the trade mark Corvette look.
In the top gear review of the evo 8 it best the c6 corvette in track time laps. And also the murcilago (not the right spelling) couldn't shake it. I've been looking into buying an evo myself. Hahaha.
I grew up around the era of when the C6 was the thing if it's time. C7's are nice and all, but I'm definitely going to get myself a C6 when I can afford one in the future.
@@clcampbell85I'm 27, about to be 28 in March. I was in middle to highschool during the early 2000's, if that is what your referring to. The C6 was the car I adored a lot when I played a lot of racing video games in my teen years.
i wish you went in deeper on the reliability concern as the 2005 had weak differential and would also drain the battery on manuals if it is not shutdown in reverse not really an ultimate guide
In a place like where i live all of the models above can't handle the temperature which is most of the time are above 122 Fahrenheit. People tried changing to bigger radiators and high performance thermostat and fans, but they failed. So keep in mind if you wanna own a car like this it will eventually overheat, unless you live in a snowy environment.
I recently moved to NJ, but had no problem keeping my C6 Z06 cool in Dallas/Ft Worth TX area. I've been caught in traffic, parked in a concrete canyon for 30+ minutes, where temps are breaking 115F. In hot locations run 2 parts distilled/de-ionized water to 1 part dexcool and add water wetter. It will stay cool unless highly modified. I am now running an 8.2 liter RHS motor. That required moving up to the big Dewitt's radiator to stay cool. A Dewitt's will keep things cool no matter what.
Great video like always. Really helpful since I just started looking to buy a c6, this video helps a lot.

Yeah, just had to replace the harmonic balancer on my 2006 about a year ago with an ATI Super Damper.
Great content brother. I especially appreciate the detail and clarity of your speech. More success to you!
Thanks!
Amazing video & very informative. Was looking for one as a weekend car but wanted to know true difference in years & trim and this knocked it out the park!!!!!!
Glad the video helped!
thank you so much for this, im gonna make a valarra out of a c6 and this helped so much on which one to get and its may of 2022
BTW. Very nice job on the video. I have been a Corvette fan for over 40 years. Nice Job.
+Marc Smith Thanks Marc 👍
This really helped my friend out he appreciates very much thank you👍🏼
I'm glad it helped out 👍🏻 Thanks for sharing the feedback!
The dog locking it in can be cut off eliminating that problem.
russell woods or another option is to have a pair and get the six speed
I've been doing some research in the Corvette it's the only vehicle that seems to have a lot of owners. Good video good tips
He recently purchased a set of michelin tires from dealership, New brakes, harmonic balancer and shift cable
It came with 2 tops, one is a smoked top, that never been on the car. The color is atomic orange, no flaws in paint, it looks like it just came off the show room floor. All I did was change air and cabin filters. I paid 25 grands for it. I believe I'll get years of service. It's only for the weekend. Interior is in mint condition. I wished I could send you a pic.
Plus it came with chrome spoke wheels. I don't like the black ones.
Did u get it inspected before?
Good video with a lot of valuable information.
Did you get your C7/8 yet?
Lots of great information there for future buyers, Great Overview , thanks for posting . O.R.
C6 will run you 10 g’s above a c5 with similar mileage/shape.
At least!
I got mine for 12k
@@331foxbody How many miles??
@@ShockzZiFy 140k miles
Not true maybe 3k more going from 04 C5 to 05 c6
You do you!
Maybe break up your information. seems like you have a lot of good info to share, but comes off a little jumbled
1LT 2LT BLT 😈 amazing video hopefully getting my 08 C6 soon
Nice Corvette! The values have really gone up in the last year...
I have a 1971 Plymouth I'd sell in a heartbeat for one of these. What a proper performance car!

Thank you! I’m in the market for a corvette and this video was very informative!
very good information, but what about the 2007 corvette?
The 6spd transmission on the Z06 in 06 and 07 was the T-56. And from 08 on it was the TR-6060. Some people prefer usually either one. The 06-07 were the lightest versions on the Z06 as well.
The 6060 is stronger and better shifting. There are also a lot more available gear sets available for the 6060, if you're customizing or building a Magnum version.
This us one of the best videos about this topic out there
08+ came with the TR6060 transmission
Very comprehensive video ....thanks for making it
Nice break down. Thanks! Looking at a LS3 C6 to possibly replace me 2015 Camaro 2SS
Thank you for this. Very helpful to find the car in my price range I'm looking to get a 06 ls2, I'm 23 an a full time welder.
Thanks for the feedback 👍 Good luck with your search!
Thanks for video. Flying out to buy my first Vert 2008 LT3
Picking up the 2010 3lt today. Really nice car.
Congrats 👍🏻
That is just a driver error...... it might seem insulting but the simple fact is even the base corvette can be too much car for an average driver.
This has to be one of the best buyer guides for any car that I’ve seen on UA-cam. Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏻
The c6 is my favorite style, don't car for the c7 lines, jmo. Informative vid, good job.
Thank you!
Scotty N
The C7 is really a C6b, an emergency measure after GM went broke. I also don't like the styling, its way overdone and years later, the rear tail lights are still hideous. With the Z06 C6, still more car than anyone should have.
Scotty N Very aero dynamic. Not many cars can hit 190 mph with just 430 hp.
Love 2010 C6 Grand Sport. C7 interior to me has a cheap look and feel. The c7s rear end especially lights belong on the Camaro and take away from the trade mark Corvette look.
@@konigwhetzel8087 really? C7 interior looks cheap to you?
Thanks for making this. Been seriously considering trading my Evo for a C6.
In the top gear review of the evo 8 it best the c6 corvette in track time laps. And also the murcilago (not the right spelling) couldn't shake it. I've been looking into buying an evo myself. Hahaha.
I like the four spoke steering wheel design. The three spoke one looks like something came out of a cheaper GM product.
my favorite generation although I love my c5
C6 lost me when they got rid of pop up headlights. C5 is perfect in its simplicity and performance
@@rickhunter6513 I like the c5 too. But c6 is my favorite, it reminds me of the 360 Modena. But it's actually obtainable and inexpensive to maintain

I grew up around the era of when the C6 was the thing if it's time. C7's are nice and all, but I'm definitely going to get myself a C6 when I can afford one in the future.
Sasaki Somdy way back in the ancient past when c6 corvettes roamed the earth lol so that makes you like a junior in highschool right?? lol
@@clcampbell85I'm 27, about to be 28 in March. I was in middle to highschool during the early 2000's, if that is what your referring to.

“The C4 is going to be...” Why do people do this? It’s not going to be, it already has been. “The C4 was made from...” Proper verb tenses man.
Could you elaborate on how much you spent on upkeep on the car and if insurance was through the roof? I'm looking at a 2008 C6 area. Awesome vid.. ty!
In 2010 the Grand Sport also had dry sump oiling like the Z06

Once the C8 drops prices should drop dramatically for the C6. That’s when to pick one up 👍🏼
Rick Hunter you can find base c6s for around 13k if you look hard enough, dont see them dropping more than that considering c5s are 7-11k
I think I’m leaning towards a C5 Z06 to be honest but the C6 is pretty amazing 👍🏼

i wish you went in deeper on the reliability concern as the 2005 had weak differential and would also drain the battery on manuals if it is not shutdown in reverse not really an ultimate guide
Grand sports actually held their value well, they bring more than ZO6's at times
Ahhh no.
Thanks your information you shared is very valuable.
Nice job appreciate your effort sir.
Thanks 👍🏻
