They pile up, ocupy space, allow mice to nest, make the place look like a dump, can't find them when you need it, end up buying new because it fits perfectly and finally all the hours it took to bring the stuff in is as long as it will take to throw it all out years from now. Beware of storing trash.

I suspect that many people here don't really want to travel with you at the moment. It's exciting to see what you're doing on your piece of land, mowing everything, trimming the trees, activating the well, building a shower and toilet for yourselves, etc.

Congratulations land owners, looks great & you both sound enthusiastic. The green metal piece is a soil screen, ( you thought it was for animal feeding) it has legs that pop down, put soil on top and it separates the course stones and lumpy soil. Really useful

Deer can make having a decent garden a real bitch. It is really pretty with rolling terrain. There should be a stream with the hills.
There is at the bottom of the land but not in Summer of course.

The Purple/blue flowers are Chicory the leaves are delicious to eat in Spring, the root has been used as a coffee substitute.

First thing I'd do, make a compost toilet and compost bin, then you won't be wasting water.

What’s your soil pH?
Add your coffee grounds to the soil around olive tree.
Cheek your fence line, as if boars are going in, then the dogs can get out.

Y’all are so cute. It’s always fun to see city folks play guess the farm implements. Those ‘sticks’ all the same size are for tying up your plants. Run a string between two and you have a place for your grapevines, beans, peas, cucumbers, summer squash, etc to run. Probably your open patio frame was constructed for those grapes to vine and make a natural cover. That drag harrow is worth keeping. You can use a 4 runner as a tractor for gentleman farmer Nick. Don’t toss those old tools, bolts, wrenches, axes, etc. Soak them in some WD 40 and clean them up. Modern hand tools are so poorly made and break often. Since you are fenced, maybe you can rent some goats to do the clean up. Mulberries are delicious, but have a long stem. The way we ate them as kids was to put the berry in your mouth and pull the stem out first. Very juicy and stained many a shirt and shoes.
Haha, thanks so much, we’ve a lot to learn that’s for sure 😅.. We both only just tried mulberries for the first time a couple of weeks ago and loved them so hopefully we’ll get a good harvest.. It’s all new and all very exciting for us 😊

I’ve watched the Indie Projects for years and from watching them I know that Portugal is very strict about keeping your land clear of dead brush etc. due to the high risk of fire. I remember watching them clearing the land up because it had to be done by a certain point of the year or you would get severe fines. It seems that there are people who you can hire out to do the work but they had some problems with people they hired so you have to be careful and watch over the work. Your land is beautiful. I don’t remember you mentioning orange trees, which was something the Indie Projects had and I loved how they could just walk up pick oranges and eat away. Congratulations on your new land. Enjoy .

Although we like to see you travel, I’m sure that there’s a lot of viewers like me that also enjoy seeing this kind of stuff. It’s awesome that you have so many fruit trees, and knowing you guys, I’m sure you’re going to benefit from all of them. I used to have a fig tree when I lived in New Jersey, USA. That tree gave me so much fruit, that I didn’t know what to do with it. So I ended up making fig jam and giving them as gifts to friends. Gosh all that fruit, how lovely. To preserve your fruit over winter months maybe buy yourself a Dehydrator. Fruit all year round. I’m loving your adventures ❤❤
I believe you will get fined if you turn it into a pool by putting tiles on, but you can paint with a coloured water proof seal, got that from other Portugal you tubers.

You will be fine , we moved to 6 acre plot in rural wales it had a house which needed lots of work and the land hadn’t really had much done to it , both of us had to work full time as well , it’s been a struggle but so worth it . Glad to hear your doing a mix of travel and doing up the land , makes it so interesting good luck on your happy ever after land ❤
Scarifier drag with tractor to put air into ground or drag behind van to clear land.
You mentioned tiling the water tank to make a plunge pool. Be careful, if I remember correctly, even painting the inside can get you into trouble with the local planning authority for creating a swimming pool without permission.
That’s crazy! Ok, we’ll keep this in mind, you’re not the first person to mention this.. Might be better to just get a small pool then 😅
Dont worry about the land, you have peace of mind, everythign else will fall into place. Many people have turned difficult land into little oasis, and not by spending tons of money, just by being there and learning to understand what it offers.

Olives can attract fruit rats ... I have ONE huge tree, that canopies over my sheds... the rats gather the fruit... and leave the stones in little piles on the shelves.. hahaha. I don't mind: as long as they stay outside, we get along okay.

The previous owner obviously cared for and was proud of his property I.e. well kept fence and buildings etc. He might give you helpful advice such as useful contacts, quirks of the land and so on. How many acres (I couldn’t convert 5000 meters to acres) 😢 all in all a lovely property!

It’s a blessing all the veg grows on its own without care. However, for safety’s sake, you do need to clear the land of the weedy fire hazard. Wild fires don’t take much to spark these days. See if you can hire the job out this season. Then you’d have time to be prepared to do it yourself next year, right? Best to you!
The land looks great, glad you are young enough with energy to plough through all that work. I love your channel and look forward to Thursday evening every week. I’d guess 82 trees on your land. I love that Merlin bird app, most unusual for my urban dwelling is a kingfisher and a goldfinch. Vinegar will get a lot of those old tools shining like new, my cousin sorted out some of my Grandad's old tools recently. Good luck with it all.
Is any of of your land listed as urban or is it all listed as rural? Wondering about your possibilities to build a habitable structure in the future if you wish to. You do need to clear the land as you may already know and you might be able to have it done by a local in exchange for the hay it would produce. It's nice to see people who act upon their dreams. Good luck with everything .

"A little project in between...", I don't think so! A piece of land comes with a lot of responsibilities, like clearing the land every year before the deadline. One spark of a strimmer against a rock, one little shiney reflective surface, could set the place on fire. It's a great piece of agriculture land, very usable with all the features it needs, but it will also need all year around attention.
😂😂.. There’s been no one working the land for years, just a tractor coming in once a year to clear it and take the olives.. We could do the same if we wanted! We plan to spend more time there than that of course but it’s not going to be a full time job for us 😅
Cheeky question ?? Can I ask what search/estate agents you used to look for your Portugal land, please😊
So jealous. Do the local markets in fruit season. Sell the olives to the local cooperative. Make your own vino. Get yourselves a petrol strimmer and strim main paths around the property, then work from there. Alternatively, get yourselves some goats - they'll clear it in no time. Those outbuildings could be great if you need somewhere warmer than the van in the winter.
