  • There are so many scenes I like in Maxton Hall. I won't get around to discussing all of them but I'm hoping to discuss some of them.
This one is longer sorry but there was a lot to go over in what is normally a very standard trope in teen romance dramas ... Their interactions during the dance scenes were interesting.

Again, great analysis of the dance scene and the scene where Ruby enters the party. Keep it up. I enjoy your comments so much. Thank you.

This scene was the moment when the show captured me 100%. The moment when Ruby came to the party and James looked at her was very cute, but when he brought her to the dance floor, I thought, “please no cringe dance scene,” and then this happened! Oh wow! The atmosphere? Funny in the best way! Intense! Spicy! I was 17 again in that moment. So many beautiful memories came alive.
Thank for your discussion. I need people to talk about this masterpiece!

Absolutely ... I was totally dying on the inside going - oh god, I am loving this show - please don't destroy it by having a cheesie dance scene where the leads are perfectly choreographed dancers .. but the camera angles and shots are just so gorgeous and they dance so natural. I will forgive them the random confetti :D

@@koalabear6089 😅 Yeah, true, it’s a bit over the top. I actually noticed it for the first time when I watched the scene again. Before that, my eyes were totally focused on Ruby and James, their intertwined hands, and those absolutely sweet glances. Of course, they had me since the sports field scene, but after the dance? I melted off the couch.
I mean, I knew the books, had read all three and remembered them pretty well. Then I heard about the adaptation and thought, "Great, another book adaptation." I didn't have high expectations because those never get me anyway. When the show came out, my sister called me and said I absolutely had to watch it! Not sometime, but right away! I wasn't ready for that! 🤩 The show beats the book. I've never thought that before. 😍

Love this so much. All of your scene analyses are so interesting and make me love the scenes even more, if that's possible. During the slow dance, another small detail that made me swoon was her hand on his neck and in the nape of his hair. Moving ever so slowly. A small, but intimate act on Ruby's part. Just love it.

Agreed .. it feels sooooo intimate - but there's literally no groping or copping a cheap feel .. it's all in the looks .. the chaste placement of hands ... even when he puts his hands on top of her shirt instead of beneath it etc... I just think it was done so well.

Thank you for your analysis, I really enjoy them. You can tell that you have some kind of a background or at least a prolonged interest in this type of assessment and the way you state your evaluations unravel the layers very pleasingly, in my humble opinion 🙏🏻 .
Just a comment to add to your train of thought: I have been living in Germany for most of my life now- though I can‘t speak for every corner of the country- it‘s quite a cultural trait here to give woman agency over what they want. At least politically it‘s something that has been established here for decades- which does not mean it‘s practiced everywhere. That being said, I think that the part where Ruby comments on Elaine’s territorial skit (without intervention from James) is something quite common and even standard in some settings. I find it empowering in a way. But that’s just my two cents 😅
Thank you again- somehow the tasteful commentary adds to the feeling of quality while watching the show- this is not usually my type of film taste, but what an exception to the rule 🤩

It‘s the same for me, and I‘m not often obsessed with this genre. I kind of keep on asking myself if I should be worried… 😅
