Doug, I like your videos a lot, but could you start the video off with a turn around of the vehicle? let us see the whole front, rear, side, 3/4 of the car. Or as you talk change up the angle that you are filming bit more, instead of just filming the vehicle from the side, so that we can get a better comprehension of what the vehicle looks like in its entirety. thanks!

I'm surprised over his reaction on ECON on the climate control. It's fairly usual thing, that basically means the A/C compressor is turned off, but all the rest is on = blowing air to the spots you have set and the fan speed remains the same, etc. the AC just is not belt-drien then, means you actually save fuel. Thus, ECON.

It's actually the same size. Four door configurations now are almost the exact same as 80s-90s two door configurations. Add 1 foot to each front foot of this RAV4, and then suddenly it looks like an explorer sport. It's smaller than you think, and for you to actually refer to this suv as 'huge' is laughable. We're you alive during the 2000s? When the first excursion was considered "mid-sized"? This IS a compact suv and you'd be shocked to see it's barley bigger than the old ones. The ride hight doesn't count, as almost all new cars sit insanely high

I really like the lane assist once I got used to it. I learned not to fight it. Mine is the premium with the weather package , and it has the 19" wheels which definitely is a big plus and makes it stand out or up in this case.
The engine is incredible and few know what it entails aside from the increase in HP. Many complain about the engine noise especially when it starts up but they don't understand why. It uses both a GDI and Port injection that compliment each other and extremely efficient and that's just the tip of iceburg. It's computers regulate all oil, gas and coolant pressures and adjust to where it's most needed and the drive modes pick up your driving habits and adjust for them, its amazing. Two electric fuel pumps front and back and electric steering. This beast brings together practicality and advanced engine tech like nothing else in its class. "Oh what a feeling"

Ethan King he never said it was the fastest they ever offered but that it was the “fastest they offered” at the time. The mid 00’s saw no sporty cars as the last one (Celica) was dropped and the corolla xrs was dropped too around this time in 06. In 07 the rav4 got a 3.5 v6 which was bigger than the 3.3 in the Highlander at the time and the Camry. Those 3mz fed engines only provided 225 hp compared to the 275 in the rav4.

It's kind of a shame, the more and more they push in that top of that back end, the less utilitarian it gets. The old school Rav4s were so great because of the versatility of them with the amount of stuff you could fit in the boxy back shape (also looking at you Honda Element!)

I thought the coolest Rav4 was the first year they came out with it (1996 i think) and they had a 2-Door version. I urged a cheap bastard friend to buy it. He could've thrown a surf board on it and his dog in it and be bitchin' down the road.

@@rudolphguarnacci197 exactly! I just remember that when you opened the back hatch of those to the side like a regular door and had clear floor to ceiling room to stow stuff with nothing in the way. I currently drive an 07 RAV4 Limited V6. My friends have told me I get more "utility" out of an SUV than anyone else they know. Huge bike rack on the back, two kayak racks on top, which also double as lumber carriers for home projects. I took out the 3rd row seats and put containers in the floor wells that hold a ton of stuff. Then I cut a piece of plywood and covered it in rubber flooring as a rear deck, which allows me to carry even more stuff. And the V6 RAV is insanely powerful for a mid-size crossover. It's fun to pull up next to Porsche Cayennes and blow their doors off.
I have no interest in the current RAV4. At 200hp, it's bringing nothing special to the table. And it looks exactly like every other mid-size crossover on the market today. I can't believe Doug said it looks "less generic" than the previous generations. With it's high rear roofline and the rear-mounted space, you could identify a 3rd gen RAV from a mile away. Every mid-size crossover today looks the same. The only thing they did for the 5th gen RAV was square every curve off, trying to make it look more masculine.

Douglas DeMuro: A Musical: The soft rays of sunlight poured with passion through a glare upon the windshield, as its tender light kissed the grille and blanketed an array of quirks and their lesser known brethren, the features, with an amber hue of which only the Maker himself could imbue. A young man, gangly legged and sporting not one, but two layers of t-shirt gazed with a quiet grace at the eye of the lens before him. "And now!’’ he proclaimed, his voice icy with defiance, all the while calm and collected, the very picture of a rugged 19th century cowboy..."for the quirks and features!" His bellow a cacophony of resounding knowledge, his smile an ode to a bygone era where the men were men and the women were damn glad for it. Dirt kicked with a fury from the road, jostling the ground below. A thick haze permeated the evening glare, the smell of burning rubber stamping its mark upon the soul. Murky shadows rolled in, and just like that, as quickly as he arrived, he was gone. Down the road in another man’s automobile. Forging forward into the depths of the unknown, the world his oyster. He turned ever so gracefully back at the fading sun. "And now, to give it a Doug score!" he wailed. Yes, my dearly beloved, he rode in with the fire of a thousand suns, that Douglas did...and it was to be into that very sunset he would ride again. Farewell, my dearest Douglas. We hardly knew ye.

You hit the nail on the head about the tech (Toyota Safety Sense Version 2, TTS V2). I leased a 2017 Rav4 and was amazed by tech and the reason why I leased a new 2019 is because you get all this safety tech (pre-collision, auto brake, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind spot, rear traffic alert). To get that in most other SUV's is several thousands more and some don't even offer all that tech.
