    Great tutorial Lanewood , thanks for it. I just installed release 13 of Cubase but I don't have this little circle in my channel configuration. I see the "lanes" function, the "freeze" function etc etc but the small icon of mono/stereo I dont see,..??...probably I have to swith this on somewhere?..thanks!

      If it is not showing you can configure the controls that are showing for each channel type via the Track Control Settings. You can get there by clicking on the little wrench all the way at the bottom of that panel. You need to make sure that 'Channel Configuration' is a visible control.

    If the MonoToStereo plugin in Cubase reduces the volume of a mono track when cranked up, it is not due to phase cancellation. Phase cancellation would only occur when playing stereo tracks, and this is technically impossible on a mono track. The reduction in volume is likely because Steinberg designed the plugin this way, ensuring that the overall perception of volume is maintained at the same level.

    Very cool demonstration and explanation. I'm curious though on something with Cubase 13. Since Cubase has made the option to change a track from stereo to mono and vice versa, have they changed the way a multi mono plugin is processed on a group or bus channel? For example: on a drum group with compression, if a tom that is hit is mostly on the left you wouldn't also want to be compressing the right channel the same amount if at all. To handle this you would use a multi mono plugin so that doesn't happen. Pro Tools does this seamlessly without any workaround to implement it like you have to do in Cubase. I'm not quite sure why Cubase only chooses to process the left channel when using a mono plugin on a stereo channel or group. Is there a better way of handling this situation? Does anybody actually use a multi mono plugin in such situations?

    • @LanewoodStudios
      @LanewoodStudios  Рік тому +1

      I’m not even sure what a multi-mono plugin is. I think more about that as a stereo compressor plugin where you unlink the gain reduction on both channels. For a compressor that makes sense sometimes for other processors less so.

    • @TomCawoski
      @TomCawoski Рік тому

      @@LanewoodStudios The issue is that not all compressors (or other) plugins have the ability to unlink the left from the right channels and therefore you need a "dual" mono plugin. But to do this in Cubase, you have to play around with the plugin routing. I'm guessing I'll have to upgrade my Cubase to version 13 to see if that processing has changed.

      @@TomCawoski or wait for the Cubase 13 free trial?

    • @TomCawoski
      @TomCawoski Рік тому

      @@LanewoodStudios I'll probably just end up upgrading. I've been on Cubase since version 6, currently 12 pro. I also use Pro Tools and this is one of those areas that Pro Tools does seamlessly without having to do some kind of weird workaround with plugin routing. I'm really puzzled why Cubase has always been this weird way... Oh well... They at least changed the ability to change a mono to stereo track and the other way around which I think is just a quick fix for people. I can't say I have ever had the need to do that, ever.

    Hello and thanks for the video, unfortunatly i'm on Cubase 13 elements and I can't find how to do this. The convert track option or split track isn't in my list. Do you know if it's possible on the element version please ?

    • @LanewoodStudios
      @LanewoodStudios  5 місяців тому +1

      You're welcome! I'm not sure whether it should be there on Elements but if you don't see it, it's probably not included in that version. You can check over here what is in each version of Cubase: www.steinberg.net/cubase/compare-editions/

      @@LanewoodStudios I think I'm screwed for now. I'll have to save up to upgrade to the "artist" version. Too bad they didn't include this option, although it's quite basic. I'll do it with another software for now. Thanks for your answer ;)

    I receive vocal recordings made in GarageBand which only records in stereo even though they were recorded with a mono input.
    I usually convert them from stereo to mono in Cubase 10 because I am used to working with mono tracks after working with tape for many years.
    Is there any point in using mono vocal tracks instead of stereo in Cubase, or am I wasting my time?

    • @LanewoodStudios
      @LanewoodStudios  Рік тому +1

      When I receive files from someone that recorded in Protools they are usually separate L + R files for stereo recordings. I always combine them into a stereo file so that I can process then together as a stereo source :).
      The opposite of what you're doing ;).
      I do understand though that receiving all mono recordings as stereo files is also a bit annoying. It may make a slight difference in performance if you convert them to mono first, but nowadays probably not a big difference.

    • @HeadGardener
      @HeadGardener Рік тому

      Thanks@@LanewoodStudios I hadn't thought about any difference in performance, (I presume you mean loss of audio quality) in converting from stereo back to mono.
      In future I will leave them in stereo to be on the safe side.

    Stereo to mono I use f.e. when someone gives me all stereotracks and there are monorecordings on it and I want to use my mono hardware FX on this. What I do find a bummer is that this conversion is not possible on instrument channels. F.e. SuperiorDrummer exports in stereo tracks and I want the Kick and snare as mono channels for the use of mono hardware FX, I was hoping that this would be possible in C13, but it is not.

    • @LanewoodStudios
      @LanewoodStudios  Рік тому

      Hi John, yes that could be a good reason for doing that. I do seem to remember that I get mono tracks from Superior though except the overheads.

    • @Eppie55
      @Eppie55 Рік тому

      @@LanewoodStudios indeed you can export mono tracks, but then they all are mono if I'm not mistaken. I rather export stereo-busses from SD3, and only make Kick and snare mono (because of my mono hardware EQ's/Compressors). I like to keep toms, OH;s and Rooms stereobusses. Not a big problem, but would have been very welcome if CUbase also had that feature on Instrumentchannels.

    I closed the popup window by checking in the box. Now mono to stereo or vice-versa can be done without popup window but I want to bring it back again. I did not get any option of doing that. If you know please reply under comment. 🌷

      I’m not at my DAW right now but it should be somewhere in preferences like all those other ‘Please don’t ask again’ preferences. You usually have the choice to show an ‘options’ dialog for those actions.

    • @LanewoodStudios

      Hmm, I think the wave form is a representation of the file on disk (which is still stereo) but I understand that it is less easy to see which tracks are mono/stereo then.

      Had no dramatic problem with this in previous versions, I´ve used stereo tracks only or use panning to set mono.
      Nevertheless, Cubase has so many good features that other manufacturers steal and copy again and again from this daw.
