Must have listened to this version over ten thousand times, and it still makes my pores raise. FMD i'd love to go back to that time, when the world was right, the music was fkn awesome, and we had our lives ahead of us.
Just my humble opinion but I believe this to be THE greatest version of Knocking on Heavens Door EVER.Period!!!!! A great Aussie band at their peak......R.I.P. Steve Prestwich. You will be sadly missed
I have just liked your comment. Your comment deserves so much more than 'like". There is a point in this song where I say, "That is Barnsey at his best"
I love that “lord.....”. Just brilliant. Like I said in my commentary you can see in Barnes’ performance the angry troubled young man that he later revealed himself to be. Watching his performance you get the feeling that he feels I could’ve dead tomorrow and this performance may be my last so I’m going to give it every last thing I’ve got.
Go mossy. Great song. I agree with several qualified posters that cold chisel owned this song on swingshift. They did the best job on this song in the whole world. The rest of the world is still trying.
Apologies to INXS, Angels, Oils AC/DC and especially the Easybeats. etc etc. I was not in Australia at this time. However, Chisel is the Greatest band ever in OZ. Subjective? you bet, but this is my opinion. Think they had it all. And they ALL wrote songs. RIP Steve.
I’m just so dam thankful I was of age to get to see them performing through there amazing career ..They are the Greatest to me as well ..such epic talent in all corners
You've seen the movie, heard the song, now read the book. Jimmy tells it like it was..brilliant stuff. On their day Cold Chisel was the best rock band in the world.
Probably shared this before, live 1980 Manly Vale. Mossy's vocals superb, his guitar solo sensational.Jimmy's intro @ 4.45 displays the talent of the man. This song displays the on stage talent that was COLD CHISEL.
What a rock’n’roll performance. I love this performance, f#cking brilliant. That solo how it builds intensity and the delayed gratification of Barnes singing lead last is just f#cking brilliant. You can see in Barnes’ performance the troubled angry young man that he later revealed himself to be. It just speaks to me the feeling I may not be alive tomorrow so I’m going to give this performance everything I’ve got left as this might be my last. I love that chord Moss hits after his first line “Mumma take this bade off me”. Other highlight Barnes’ opening lyric “Lord....”. The way Barnes stands and holds the mic.
No doubts and I tend to agree, really demonstrates how good they really were/still are. I grew up with the Beatles as my idols. These guys much younger than me but have a greater influence on me. 'cn luv 'em!
August 30 1980 'Capitol' theartre. (With 'mentals' and 'INXS' - geez imagine if that was recorded as well!. No footage. Im building a chisel website - with 500 plus images collected over 20 years - stay tuned!
Sorry to hear that! Great selection, hope she would of appreciated it. Way to young, condolences. Thinking of you and your family....stay strong. All the best in hard times.
Search 'chisel' on my utuve accoubt - about 8 manly vale songs...entire concert that musicmax played...use u tube downloader and save to PC > make DVD. I have also loaded up the doc m-max aired before the concert..
Totally professional group don walker always in the background but responsible for most of the songs, however they all played their part and were in my opinion the ultimate aussie band even though we had many, many great bands over the years.
@martin84125 Swingshift version actually starts with Mossy singing - Mama come wipe the blood from my face, I can't see thru it anymore. And it's a feeling I just can't chase(?), feel like etc... I've never owned a copy, But have never forgotten the Chisel written first Verse of their version. This Vid is a great version, but it didn't quite get the hairs up like I remember the Swingshift version did.
Great version, great band, great concert. Kind of makes me upset seeing this and thinking how great it was when Music Max was on Foxtel, damn I wish it was back

Of course it was Don singing that second verse , you can see it in the video ! He does not have much of a vocal range but he can sing . Great piano player and song writer .
I heard or read somewhere that Cold Chisels cover of Wild Thing was considered the best ever by the Troggs when band members were asked (?). Dont know if thats true or not but for an original band they did some truly brilliant covers.
Saw them many times on this tour. What great times. You dont know how great it is until its not there any more.
Must have listened to this version over ten thousand times, and it still makes my pores raise. FMD i'd love to go back to that time, when the world was right, the music was fkn awesome, and we had our lives ahead of us.
So would i❤
So fking true my man.

💯
When Barnes got into full noise it put a chill down my back.Cold Chisel singing this song is by far the best version even so many years later.
I have just liked your comment. Your comment deserves so much more than 'like". There is a point in this song where I say, "That is Barnsey at his best"
True 👌🏻

Chisel sang this live in Ipswich the day that Lennon died, stays with me always, just brilliant.
I didn't believe you that this actually happened...but dammit you're right! The one and only time they played Ipswich. What a night that must've been.
Just a Wow! From me 👏
Best version of this song ever
Agreed100

Luv the singing, such contrast..just awesum, and the mossy lead break ..one of my all time favourites this version...
These guys together were such a strong band. Still moves me every time.
Swingshift had perhaps the strongest vocals from all members of the band of all of Cold Chisel’s records
live that is....
@ 5.06 Jimmy sendz it to Heaven alright !!! Amen to that !! Awesum !!!
Go Don..BRILLIANT....WOOOOOOOOH......
I have this on vinyl.... chills all over....
love ian, jimmy, don, steve and phil. always did, always will xoxo
What a fcn Great BAND!!

This was a great night. You guys were superb 🖤
Rode on the back of Ian Moss' motorbike at 14, back from a gig in Kinselis, back in the day. One of those great "memory" moments I treasure now.
Love this cover!
Ian Moss - legend.
No doubts and I tend to agree, really demonstrates how good they really were/still are. I grew up with the Beatles as my idols. These guys much younger than me but have a greater influence on me. 'cn luv 'em!
Epic - gave me the chills

I LOVE this version ! I am a huge Cold Chisel fan (oh yeah and I love his curls, too, lol)
Sorry to hear that! Great selection, hope she would of appreciated it. Way to young, condolences. Thinking of you and your family....stay strong. All the best in hard times.
Love Chisel.
Awesomeness
lol i live a few kms away from manly vale ;D
If an alien ship landed and asked me - 'What is rock-n-roll?'...either show this or AC/DC down Swanston.
Billy and Allen were CHISELS roadies who pased away in a crash. 1982 'Circus Animals' - last track 'Letter to Allen'....Fu&&ing 'A'....
I believe hound dog was also written about the same guys.
@@UnleashedTraining101 Hound dog is such a great track, less played, but not around here.
I would love to know if footage exists of the version on the Swingshift album. That version is un-farkin-believable
Totally Agree!!👍
No other band comes close with Cold Chisel's Swingshift album's version but.... Barns vocals👌
Yep there is I think, with David Blake on harmonica
Cold Chisel at their best❤
Search 'chisel' on my utuve accoubt - about 8 manly vale songs...entire concert that musicmax played...use u tube downloader and save to PC > make DVD. I have also loaded up the doc m-max aired before the concert..

Got have been the BEST band NOT to have made it World Wide wtf? Go Figure!
Ever heard jerry garcia do it? Live only!! 1980 would be best
Mossy!!!!!
Much, much better than that overrated crap version by GnR. R.I.P. Steven Prestwich
I agree whole heartily , except for Slash GnR were crap .
they have copied a little of mossys notes...itsa a compliment to chisel from g n r's
Was a good version, BUT, sorry "SWINGSHIFT" take is the "ultimate"!!! Shivers up the spine shite. WHY? Because CHISEL perform it! No offence!
