In a debate moderated by TIMES NOW's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, panelists -- Mahesh Jethmalani, Senior Advocate; Lt. Gen (Retd) B S Jaswal, Former Army Commander, Northern Command; Devender Rana, Provincial President, NC; R K Singh, MP Lok Sabha BJP & Former Home Secretary; Major General ( Retd) Rashid Qureshi, Former Spokesperson to Musharraf; Reham Khan, Senior Journalist; and Brig (Retd) Yasub Dogar, Defence Analyst -- discuss the issue of Pakistan troops killing Indian civilians again at the border, India giving a massive reply, and whether Pakistan is isolated after non-interference of UN and U.S.
Heavy mortar shelling and firing by Pakistani troops continued unabated along the International Border(IB) in Jammu and Kashmir on Oct 8 killing two more people - both women- even as a "massive" reply was being given from the Indian side. With the government coming under attack from the opposition parties over its handling of the string of ceasefire violations by Pakistan, which continued tonight, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said "everything will be fine soon" on the border. The death toll in the firing after escalation of ceasefire violations by Pakistan for over a week rose to eight with the killing of a woman identified as Shukuntla Devi and her daughter-in-law Poli Devi. Fifteen more people have been injured in the firing taking to 75 the number of injured so far, officials said. Government also said that India will continue to respond to Pakistan on the ceasefire violations according to the situation along the border and there won't be any flag meetings. The Pakistani rangers overnight targeted 50 Border Out Posts (BoPs) and 35 border hamlets with mortar bombs and heavy firing that led to migration of 17,000 people from border hamlets to safe places and relief camps. There were three fresh violations of ceasefire in the night when Pakistani forces resorted to mortar shelling and firing in the sub sectors of Kanachak and Pargwal in Jammu district and Hiranagar in Kathua district along the IB. Guns, however, fell silent along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri districts after the Indian forces gave a "befitting reply", officials said.

Arnab is guilty of using sexist attitude to counter the Pakistani journalist by saying "I don't want to get into a 'SILLY' little argument with you. This is condemnable, Arnab. You bring shame on us by using sexist tactics when the reply does not please you. I am an Indian, by the way, not a Pakistani, but I do strongly deplore such tactics that make us look weak when, as far as I can make out, we are actually on the higher moral ground in this present conflict.

Vikas Verma As a debate anchor, Arnab cannot get into arguing and putting forth the views on one side only. His job is to moderate the debate and keep it focussed on the issue. He cannot speak above the voice of the participants even if they talk rubbish and put on a sneering attitude. Unfortunately for him, he was not a member of the debating panel. Only if the anchor remains outside the discussions and lets everyone have their full say will the debate have any credible outcome. The question is not about his patriotism. It is about whether he is a good debate anchor or not.
Arnab always manages to turn a discussion into polemic. There are many sensible indian anchors running their shows with civility. i don't get why Pakistanis(specially reham) appear on his shows. Arnab should invite his clones from Pakistan like Zaid Hamid and Tariq pirzada. Than we will have real entertainment.

This is the lowest quality of debate I have ever seen on newshour or any other debate. I have been following his debates since 2008 but he should allow the Pakistanis to speak. They show much more grace than we do. The people of Pakistan are very talented and deserve a better life. The serials made in Pakistan are far better than the ones made here. In India, everything is becoming commercialized (for money). Pakistan like India have their compulsions and must be heard... the India vs Pakistan debates on Newshour are hopeless...

Even if ur a judge favouring one side clearly, still there are some etiquettes to listen to both the sides but arnab unfortunately doesn't have these etiquettes. Why somebody has to invite a person to whom he don't want to listen to?
I agree, this guy is completely an adrenaline pool, quite headless and nonsense (may be not exactly nonsense though :p). Sometimes i feel he has been a child never heard out all his life, now that he's a news anchor he simply wants people to hear and agree with his ideas; man that's ridiculous. I have never seen a properly anchored debate when he's the anchor. I would suggest him to start writing his own blogs/ articles instead.
Regarding the cross border firing, i believe it's time we start negotiating with select people inside Pakistan. These are people who really want a change in the political system. The very idea of military presence in politics since the hanging of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has failed the state. Let's stop blaming the people in general.
Arnab - Not sure if you read these comments. But as a long time viewer of the program, I am of the opinion that you should allow the panelists to talk. You raise the relevant issue - but I actually want to hear what the other side has to say and form my own opinion! This is becoming ridiculous! I have had to shut off the videos off late because, you have become extremely opinionated. This is a platform for people to present their views NOT just you. This is an honest view from a true viewer.

People don't come to a program to be admonished in righteous anger and be repeatedly dismissed ( even though there are a few on their side who spew rhetoric that isn't worthy of being taken seriously ) . It keeps them from acknowledging whatever little they are willing to concede and feeds their confirmation bias about India. How insane is it to tell a person that you don't care if the people of their country "incinerate themselves" ? There is serious cultural difference between India and Pakistan....
1) In Indian culture to forgive somebody is good thing (...even your enemy). We give enemy chance to improve.
2) For Pakistan, when India forgives and stop attack, they think we cannot continue or not capable or afraid of them or India has something to hide.

He said it is debate but every of his conduct debate we listen his lecture only. Whether they are Pakistan or India if he asks question he should have given time to answer. If the respondents did not reply his own assumption, he interrupted and ask again and again and wanted them to answer his own ideal. According to my assumption, he will ask the question and the listeners will make assumption.

Pakistanis laugh their hearts out seeing his frustration and self righteous attitude. I do disagree with quite a few activities by your military and the rhetoric among the diplomats but I believe they represent the vested interests of a few ( who want the conflict to continue ) rather than the will of the whole country of Pakistan.
We do not endorse incendiary remarks from Arnab like "we don't care if your incinerate yourself...we are going to pulverize you". Our country isn't going to back down in the face of unprovoked aggression but we want Pakistani people to live in peace as well. Why would we wish harm upon them when they are not the ones making the decision to hurt our people ? There are problems that warrant our attention and could be solved by cooperation. It would be good to focus our resources and energy elsewhere rather than playing into the hands of those people who don't mind the regular loss of lives only to serve their interests.
***** I disagree with a lot of things our military does brother for the obvious fact that they are human beings and not infallible. Both sides are blaming each other for the current events. What Pakistani panelists (specially Reham) tried to highlight was that, Pakistan army is already engaged in a deadly war in western frontiers so why would they open another front in east. Anyways let me tell you Pakistani public has matured now. that's the reason none of our mainstream political parties have an anti-india stance because it doesn't sell in election campaigns here, they only talk about economy etc. We are more interested in making our country a better place to live for our future generations.
