While the devs have said there are some bugs with the spawn rates in certain spots, most of the problems you're talking about are actual issues you and the squad are bringing on yourself.
The aggro system takes into account how many strats you're calling down in an area and in how short a time.
When you first drop you trigger the first instance of 'noise'. If you end up calling down a bunch of support stuff immediately then you raise that 'noise' to the point where patrols come looking and may trigger patrol spawns nearby if there aren't enough to keep up with the level of 'noise' the squad created.
People are out there beating Helldiver solo with smoke grenades, anti-material rifle, and other various combinations JUST because they understand the aggro.

There's already talk about it being changed to not spawn as much as it's already doing. One thing I didn't like, was the automaton summoning, you stop it, but another just starts instead. I would love that to disappear. Make 1 dude 50/50 roll if it'll summon, and make all others unable, is my own choice if I could decide.

Most of the people complaining haven't even used the full arsenal. They hop on reddit, read what the "meta" is, then rely on it while gaining no new knowledge or skills. Personally, I think there is a slight problem in higher difficulties but it's more to do with the enemy roster lacking something between the medium units and the harder ones... So the result is spam of both sides. Instead of spamming several chargers and bile titans, it would be nice if there were softer 'baby chargers' that spawned in small packs. Maybe killing them by shooting the wrong spot could be disastrous and spawn in a mommy charger to ruin your day (or the armoured ones from the target missions).
At present, it can sometimes feel like a bit of a DPS race on two main enemies rather than a case of managing the horde with target priority... and this isn't even going into the Automaton's roster and ranged fire spam... So yea, balance isn't perfect, but I don't think the vocal mob are really looking at the right places when complaining.

I used the railgun in safe mode, preferring the ability to charge my shot and wait for the right moment to release it. Now, being forced to use it in unsafe presents a risk/reward that promotes snap decision making. You have to time your shots much more carefully in order to maintain that effectiveness. But it also promotes different build setups in team gameplay, which I am absolutely loving.

These are tumultuous times for Diablo IV but I'm certain the devs will continue to improve the game and, after a couple of seasons, we'll have a lot of interesting things to do.
Yes yes, I know some of you will say it should've been perfect from the beginning; that it should've released with more endgame content.
However, do not forget that Blizzard have long term plans for Diablo IV. As they have stated multiple times, they want us to play it for at least 10 years. Sure, there are ways to keep players along for 10 years and then there are other ways.
But still, as a fellow developer, let me tell you this - I might have the greatest ideas for activities, crafting, new skills etc. but, if management waves a finger at me and says - "No, we won't include any of these at this point, don't work overtime because it won't change anything. We have to stretch this content over X seasons..." - then it doesn't matter what I want and if I am feeling the same way as the community, I have to follow the orders. Because if I go full rebel, the unwavering defender of player interests, they will fire me and replace me with someone else who is way more eager to obey.
And what happens then? You lose a developer who cared, who knew how to make the game better and was working hard on it, and you get another one who may not care at all and is there just for the salary or, god forbid, believes that microtransactions are the future of GaaS.

The spawn rate is being looked at and tweaked in a future patch. The nerf was an overall net good for the game, there was a large group of players advocating on message boards to establish a strict meta build and that anyone who refuses to use it or is incapable of using it be instantly kicked from game lobbies without warning or explanation.
The way Helldivers 2 is designed with its warbonds (battle passes) never expiring completely eliminates one of the largest reasons for these strict metas to exist. Every other live service game have their battle passes expire, forever cutting off player access to content both free and payed for regardless of how much was accessed by the players. My theory is that the players advocating a strict meta had been more or less conditioned by these other games to seek efficiency over fun in the games they play and that is terribly sad. I am glad the meta got crushed, I love running with effective yet fun builds and just having goofy fun with random players.
I also should admit that I found the devs responses to be rather refreshing, the only people I have met who were upset by the responses tend to be the meta crowd nut bars.

That's why we are nerfing these items, that are overperforming but do not give players new tools by buffing other items, that were underperforming. That way, we are giving players not only less choices, we are actively making the whole game more annoying."
I don't play that game but from everything I have heard about the situation, this is what the choice of developers boils down to. We had this happen in Diablo 3 years ago (I'd like to say a decade ago), where they nerfed the "necessary" builds at the time. Fast forward to nowadays. We do have absolutely inflated numbers in the game, but that is just a numbers thing. They could shrink down every number in the game, and the overall balance of the game would still stand. That balance being, that we have 3 to 5 viable builds per class (obviously for different situations; some are amazing for pushing, some are amazing for speedfarming etc.). Guess how they got to that point? While they did nerf stuff sometimes, they were and still are also constantly BUFFING stuff, that was underperforming. You NEVER can give players "mOrE bUiLd DiVeRsItY" by taking shit away. That's now how maths works. "I want to give you more, that's why I'm taking something away from you."

You guys are ignoring the core issue that the whole uproar is centered around though. The railgun for example was not "OP" when compared to the other guns generally. It was only excelling in one single thing: Single target damage against heavy armor. No other weapon has that to the same degree which is why the Railgun was such a popular choice. They nerfed that while saying they want other weapons to shine as well. The issue is, they just don't shine in this respect. If they had nerfed the railgun while upping some of the heavy armor pen and damage of the weapons that are supposed to be anti-tank while saying look, these weapons underperformed but now they should be equally valid choices, go try these out then the uproar would have never happened. The issue is the lack of alternatives.
It's not about high difficulties being too easy when using these weapons. You still need a lot of skill for it. But the way these missions are cleared now is by simply running which you can still do solo (even better than fighting with a railgun or the other weapons btw). And is that the game the devs envision? Running simulator from bugs while using your orbital and eagle weapons to quickly do the objectives, then extract or die to end the mission? @@Lilyth_Helyste

@@Nerex7The "Core issue" as you put it is not an issue, they already stated the other guns will be getting adjusted going forward, The same patch that properly balanced the breaker and railgun also buffed other weapons. Those buffs are always ignored by those like you who say "all the other weapons are still weak!!111" Also overlooking that the game is aimed at teamwork of co-op players, which is most effective if all 4 are /not/ rocking the exact same loadouts. That said, the game is new, and made by a small development team. They can't really be expected to just fix everything in one go, They are doing things step by step. Players need to learn patients and let them work instead of throwing tantrums. Also, aside from a couple more super samples HD difficulty is pointless anyway unless you just want a high challenge. The percent you get for planet liberation from clearing all three missions, is the exact same as what you get from clearing all three on hard mode. Another factor is, part of the reason all the weapons "Suck" is they are planning to add a weapon customization feature where we the players can improve weapons ourselves to fit our own playstyles, which will be awesome. This is why the breaker nerfs were so minor and hardly noticeable, it only needed a small adjustment. The rail gun went from zero risk and high reward, to high risk and high reward. Rewarding players with the skill to use it correctly, which is perfect for this kinda game. Not extracting at the end of a HD run just to complete it is silly and pointless since the best, well only reason really mechanically speaking, to even run it is getting the super samples, which you dont get if you dont extract with them.

    D4 leader boards improvement ideas:
    - What you already said - flag to show if a profile is private or not
    - Snapshot of the build, not the currently equipped items
    - On group play we MUST have a way to see the classes that the run was made with instead of just the names
    - Quality of life improvement - easier way to access it (not only from one town) and vendors nearby. Also why does the retry button does not start a new run, but instead teleports you out and it's not next to the rock or whatever it is, but a few feet away (if you press close and leave dungeon it's right next to it for example).
Personal opinion - the chests are useless and there shouldn't be any items dropping even the keys - just remove that.

TLDR/boring: Is a dev a coder or the management of the coders? When using terms with gaming studios?
What does dev actually mean in the context of gaming. I'm an application dev.. we do what the customer wants. We, the devs, talk to the points of how new features/changes could affect other systems and to the added cost of time to the development.
Do the coders of a game, from a studio, have any say to changes in the game? A dev to me is a coder. I would think the best way a dev (coder) could communicate with their customers is taking in information and offering alternatives without adding any emotion into anything.

17:25 Cool suggestions but we are almost 4 seasons in with no core additions to the game. Just tweaks and QoL, only REAL thing they added was uber bosses that aren't even a challenge (worst thing they did was the uber uniques, just needs to be...uniques) oh and this gauntlet thing. Rest of what they added....theres still objectives even if they reduced the requirements in sigils, dungeons are the same boring narrow layouts w/ a few extra enemies, paragon board is just stat inflation, no new skills, no new branches to skills, no new dungeon bosses with mechanics, more microtransactions, more season passes and seasons that don't carry over into the game that already has very little to do. This all is because of the design choices and formula they put into their game.
Now they are adding Season 2 stuff into legendary aspects instead of melding them into the paragon board. We got an itemization rework coming, but almost 4 seasons in + preseason, what they have given as a "live service game" vs games like PoE that is "CORE"? Few uniques? Few Aspects? Balance tweaks? A kiss of QoL? Less Buggy Horse? So far these seasons have been a waste of their time and ours. Atleast every season in PoE we get new tools/environments/mechanics that have gone core to play with our characters beyond just more uniques/aspects, or adjustments to the game. They can keep adding bad mechanics to the game but class design is one of the more bigger and bland issues at this time next to itemization. And adding alittle more options isn't complicating the game to a "PoE PHD level". Especially if you look at Last Epoch, I'd take their system anyday over...2 passives this way or 2 passives that way for my "CORE SKILL", then put 5 points to max out the skill, DONE.
You hear a new season is coming out, but you are pretty much still playing a new character on repeat with a few uninspired twists and a grindy seasonal mechanic. Themes have been cool, executions have been poor. Add gauntlet to this list.

The biggest balancing mistake devs historically make is to over-shoot game balance. So there is some aspects where I understand when they pinpoint a nerf or a buff here, but not try to change too much at once. That usually, in the end, makes for a better balance approach, but may often not be the one with the best player reaction. Either way, hope things end up for the best, for everybody all around.

A lot of game designers fall into this trap. The solution to "OP" items in games is NEVER NERF ANYTHING. Buff the bad items, leave the OP items as-is. If this throws the difficulty off wildly, buff the enemies. You see, the difficulty of the game doesn't need to stay static. Good weapons/gear/items make games fun. Nerfing them always, unequivocally, makes the game less fun. Buffing unused items gives new good stuff to players, making the game more fun.
2 caveats. First, over many years (10+), this can cause bloat. The solution to that is a stat squish. Second, the "buff only" approach requires more effort. Buffing 10 items is "harder" than nerfing 1. But you know what's harder than good game design????.... going bankrupt cause everyone stopped playing. gg.

I think all players skills used should be visible. But the gear should still be private if you want.

Skill issue clearly comes to mind... the devs certainly need to learn how to effectively design, implement, architect (the base) and test their game.
The number of bugs and issues in the last few days really felt stupid after going through the launch.. .. it still isn't time to do balancing .. do fix your fricking (DB) implementation which still seems to act up, then, when people don't freeze up for 30+s on looting treasure, and rewards are handed out timely, you might think about balancing..
PS: There is this concept called "(public-/beta-) test-servers" where you can deploy stuff and invite dedicated players to test them, creating data and whatnot for you to analyze and fine tune your changes before delivering them to the rest of the world. I know it might be a new concept for some but that was at least in some distant past industry standard..

imho the issue with the Helldivers 2 Patch was that it treated a symptom, not the cause of the issue. Usually when I play games, I'll not discover the meta on my own. I'll play some shit that is fun to me while making really bad mistakes and I'll later be educated after actually informing myself, it's never been different. When I pick up a weapon or character in games and I think like wow this is really op, it pretty much always ends up mid while some stuff that I never would have expected ends up in the meta. However, in this game, all of the above, the Breaker shotgun, the Railgun and the Shield found their way to becoming items that I most commonly use. I never looked up any streams, metaplay or any of the sort. So that got me thinking, if a knucklehead like me stumbles upon the most meta items and deems them really essential - how glaring must the core issue of the game be? Armor was bugged out of its mind and even after being fixed, it still feels like paper. You got 1-shot by even the tiny bugs so using a shield felt like the right thing to do. Now you get 1-shot even through the shield, so between being 1-shot and being 1-shot but having 1 less equipment slot, the shield is now history. The breaker gun got a mild nerf, more spread, less ammo. It's still the same as before in my book but it's got less range. Makes sense, it's a shotgun. It was surprising how far that thing went to begin with. The Railgun? Well, people started sacrificing one of their equipment slots with one single enemy in mind: the charger. The devs now nerfed the railgun because it deals with a charger too quickly. The thing they didn't think through is, there aren't 1 or 2 of those beasts on higher difficulties. There might be up to 8-12. You may think, well, for that instance we got weapons like the Expendable ANTI-TANK rocket launcher. Single use but powerful enough to take out out surely, right? Well, not exactly. You get 2 of those and you will need 2 of those for a single one.
The mistake this patch made was that they nerfed these items without providing alternatives. The game now feels...worse. You will see even more isolated loadouts than before. Before, some people took AoE dealing measures, other took the strong single target railgun. Now you'll probably see a more one-sided split than before with 3-4 people running the same weapon to deal with the same issue.
I don't even care much about how the devs reacted. They are just people. And obviously they are people without any PR training or team, which is probably a flaw in their team that they are addressing right now. Some of those sentences should have never made it to social media. Players are assholes at times like these but that doesn't mean devs should steep that low.

Let's be clear about the HD2 situation. The primary issue is that the Dev's actioned on a design philosophy that was completely out of sync with how they actually designed their game. It felt like a gut punch because up until that patch the focused seemed to be entirely on Difficulty + Fun being the focus. Many have the opinion that the Developers of the game are not even playing their own game, nor have they gone above difficulty 6 in any real capacity. This is such a strong sentiment in the community now that you'll find quite a few comments asking the Devs to livestream a 4-man dev-team only game of them playing 7, 8, and 9 difficulties live on stream to prove they actually know what's going on in their own game.
It reeks of bad direction that is completely counter to what made HD2 such a bombshell success. People get REALLY passionate when a new potentially golden-goose game comes along that is then "ruined" by the devs themselves not understand what sparked their success.
Armor also wasn't "fixed" but broken even further. All armor pre-patch essentially had 100 armor. Once the values themselves started "working as expected" Light armor became squishier, Medium armor didn't really change too much, and Heavy Armor is still worthless. Incidentally, people are claiming that Helmet armor is always 100, and hits against your head are ALWAYS critical hits crunching 40%++ of your hp away in one swipe/shot. Overall, the Armor "fix" has been seen as a complete negative and a "nerf" in and of itself against player survivability.
Lastly, you start adding in the "stealth" hidden changes that appear to have been added to the game with every patch most notably with the "Balance" patch as of late. The devs themselves admitting to not adding quite a lot of changes, but they had no real reason they could give as to why those changes didn't make it into the patch notes.
Overall, lots of emotions flying around over what has been perceiving as a life raft floating in a sea of corporate carnage as of late in the gaming industry. Their Devs working on HD2 just seem to not have the experience needed for how popular the game actually became.
Sure, there's been some bad eggs ruining the pot for everyone else, however a LOT of the criticism has been warranted from the community towards the Devs. They really do need to do better imo. 🤔

The Arc Thrower is very good, even at Helldiver difficulty.
I hardly ever even reach for my primary weap anymore unless you have some hunters right in your face.
The biggest change gameplay wise thats happened due to the Railgun nerf is its now much harder to run off solo at high tier difficulties since you cant just insta gib everyone by your self.
This is a good change, its a squad based game, learn to play as a team, even if its with randoms!

Pretty weird that the most hype product of the year is non functional and essentially a 0/10... is the top guide on a Steam still how to try and play solo?
Great if it's fixed, but I am astounded by how a technically broken product can still get so much praise in this day and age. Don't really have to look far to see why gaming is in the shitter.

To be clear, I don't trust players OR developers when it comes to forum drama. Players - enough said, everyone understands how certain sections of certain communities will respond with death threats the moment anything happens that makes them feel even slightly less godly. Developers - frequently capable of phenomenal arrogance, or giggly dorks who specifically engineer their games to require particularly weird and unfun playstyles to beat the game, supposedly in the name of 'difficulty'. (Or don't even do that much work, they just throw a bunch of abilities and a bunch of numbers into a blender and hope for the best while they go back to playing Civ 6.)
So developers trolling players for 'not playing right' when people are literally just there to have fun, and were previously doing that, that really could go either way, for sure. And I don't wanna tell Rhykker how to do a job he's already obviously incredible at, but also, just perhaps this is one of the few communities anywhere that actually could stand to hear some specific numbers (i.e, the sheer scale of the nerfs involved) in a story, but genuinely kinda leans into this stuff.
(Also why are shotguns in any game such a terrible binary of broken mechanics, they're either the god-tier weapon for nearly any situation or utter junk. Especially weird when you consider their real-life versatility of the basic idea, ranging from 'guaranteeing you win the very close range fight' all the way to 'shoot birds when they're in the air', but like, also NOT something that tends to see a whole of interest from your average professional soldier?)

I think an endgame that D4 could utilize relatively easily would be an endless dungeon. A leaderboard is a perfect fit for something like this too. You could track how far you get into the dungeon, and compete for the deepest level with other players. I don't know of any endgame concept that matches this one for potential replayability either, since the levels could be made completely random, and there could be bosses on levels that give out loot relative to the level you as the player are on.

I envision something similar in the sense that there are areas you must clear, and bosses that you MAY encounter(but may not), and an endless number of levels to challenge yourself. Have almost every part of these areas randomized, boss spawns/types included.
You could even have it set to, on some random levels, just provide you a chest with lots of loot instead of fighting a boss. The possibilities are endless, as would be the progression. Could have a leaderboard for that too...

@@phyxion123 Everyone keeps saying that, but that's not quite what I mean. Greater Rifts had a MAXIMUM level of 150, that you could NOT go beyond.
I'm talking about a truly ENDLESS dungeon, with loot that scales to that level's difficulty. Perhaps, if the scaling is too drastic, there could be a gear set just for pushing these dungeons, only to be used for the purposes of doing these runs.
Is it really a new concept? No, but I don't hear any other real good ideas for an endgame that allows our characters to feel that sense of progression that we are looking for.

I'm in the same boat on the Gauntlet, will probably do it once a week like I used to do D3 challenge rifts and am glad it's in the game but rarely will play a ton of it.
I have a few other issues with the leaderboard though. If I want to see what the threshold is for getting on it the only way seems to be clicking 99 times to see the last page...which is an awful system (assuming I'm not just missing something). Next I tried the filters which was showing nothing...which I found odd since I didn't try it until Saturday. Turns out, they just were working EXTREMELY inconsistently, where "all platforms friends normal barb" would show nothing often...but sometimes show 2 of my friends and I...and sometimes show a 3rd friend only. The clan filter also worked very inconsistently. These weren't recent clears that just hadn't posted yet, many were from 4 days ago by that point. Gameplay was more enjoyable than I thought, but the leaderboards were so much worse than I thought they could be.

Gauntlet have so many issues I dont even know where to start. First of all there is no item incentive to even do it, you would need to at least get same rewards as normal T70 NM dungeon after finishing it rift style with loot explosion at the end. Second we need snapshot of build that was used to finish the gauntlent. Not a profile view. ppl change builds. Third problem is some classes need massive time consuming and hard to revers from memory build changes to even have a remote sense in participating in this mode. Without an Armory where we can easily switch builds and gear this feature is just for streamers. For example if you play niche build or minion build there is not even any point of trying the gauntlet. And thats just few issues from the top of my head.
