My PS2 stopped reading disc including its game and PS1 games after it tried to read the free mcboot disc then this everything happened.

Also how much is a PS2 these days? You can get 2nd hand ones for about $50 It's hardly devestating if an old PS2 stops working and after trying everything else you give it a tap with a hammer. Don't tell me you've never given an old electrical device a strong tap to get it working again. I've had old TV's, VCR's, DVD players, Amplifiers etc... that have worked after giving it a good tap or rattle.

It's easy enough to figure out how to do it with common sense. Usually, there's a dirt build-up that makes the eye not want to move up and down the worm gear.

If tweaking didn't work, just order a new laser pickup, they're not that expensive. Just look up tutorials on how to replace the laser in the fat PS2 and it should help you.

Guaranteed fix, huh? Yet you couldn't fix it. You've got quite the sense of humor. Still, everything you've shown in this video should indeed fix most PS2's. Unfortunately, it didn't fix mine. I can get the gear in a spot to where it works perfectly, almost like it came right out of the factory. The problem is that it will go right back to it's default position, and I have no clue how to stop that from happening. Also, it has the infamous ticking noise that happens before the DRE pops up. Any help would be appreciated, otherwise I'm sending the thing into Sony.

Ja ja ja.. actually if you go as far cleaning the lens, and giving the thing some 5 or 6 clicks, then you have a very good chance of making it work again. Keep trying with more clicks in one direction or the other until the disc error screen no longer appears. It works for me every time.
i just bought the namco x capcom for ps2 and when i put it in and the disk went to the error on the ps2 or it's broken because it won't let me play and how can i fix it
Wow...just wow. I hope this is a joke vid, because if you knew anything about electronics, you would not have the system open while plugged in and running. The issue is with the tracking arm... That's an SCPH-30001 model, and the plastic carrier arm wears out. All you have to do is remove the laser unit, and gently warm the plastic arm with a heat gun and gently bend it down.

You may have the same PS2 that I have. The gear is there but the wheel isn't. If you look where his wheel is there should be a white hole on yours. Look closely at the white hole it's in the shape of a hex. Find an allen hex that fit in the hole snug and turn clockwise. TADA!!!!! I barely turned it and I only did it once and my PS2 fired right up. Also I used my beard trimmer lube to lube up the track. MY PS2 purrs like a kitten now

the best advice i got from this was grease the bar. my laser would get stuck, some wd-40 and magic! perfect ps2 again. disk read error gone.
Helped me fix my hunk of junk ps2 and gave me a good laugh. Thanks guy.

If you take off the laser there are two small dials for dvd and game laser gain that will fix the ps2.

Also two more things to try the calibration wheel shouibe positioned at twelve o'clock and you can adjust the resistance under the laser eye

You don't know how much early fats (v4-v7) are thrown out. I think I fixed about 10 of them out of 12 that I have.

Some models are different. I had to adjust mine with an allen wrench. The earlier models are like this one shown here.

I CLEANED the lenses on my ps2 with a q tip and alcohol and it reads blue ps2 GAMES ps1 ps2 DVDS and music cds
you forgot to reset you laser adjustment and test it befor the hammer smack. being off by one click it wont read sh u know what.

Nope nothing at all, but i found out that its the little screw that holds the laser on the left.
