  • Featured is the blitz chess game between Magnus Carlsen and the 2018 United States Champion Sam Shankland from the Late Titled Tuesday event on August 6th, 2024. Out of an opened Sicilian, Carlsen quickly castles queenside, targeting Shankland's d6 pawn for a 3rd time. By defending d6 with e5, Shankland aims to secure the hole on d5 with pieces. Not long after, Shankland commits a super uncharacteristic blunder whose cause can maybe be best attributed to the "Magnus Effect". Carlsen won this Late Titled Tuesday event with a perfect score, 11/11.
