That head-ducking move to shed the puma was legit. Too bad these prey type animals didn't have at least one good offensive weapons. Not horns, those usually are curved and do little. I wish they had like a spiked hoof or something.
Seriously, that puma was launching herself back into action the moment she was thrown down. Her focus and drive was fierce. She was definitely not inexperienced.
I always root for the carnivore simply because they are so much fewer and even their breeding and survival is much less secure. *Guanaco are NOT endangered!* (neither are Puma)
Truck Taxi Pumas are obligate carnivores. While they might be able to ingest small amounts of vegetation they lack the necessary physiology required to digest it. This means their diet requires nutrients found only in animal flesh. While that might be confronting or uncomfortable for some people, it is essential and instinctual for these animals to eat meat. Without it, they will die.
@@LeoInterHyenaem Well no kidding... but going for the throat is the most effective way to both immobilize and kill it's prey, by cutting of air passage through the larynx.
A fantastic effort from the female Puma, and look how fast she was! Her speed was unbelievable. As soon as she was thrown from the Guanaco she instantly launched back onto it. This is a great example of a predator cost/benefit ratio. The cost of hunting large prey: Difficult, less chance of a kill, and higher chance of serious injury, versus the benefits: Enough food to last a long time, and more experience in hunting prey like that in the future. Good try, mother Puma.

That head-ducking move to shed the puma was legit. Too bad these prey type animals didn't have at least one good offensive weapons. Not horns, those usually are curved and do little. I wish they had like a spiked hoof or something.
One of the greatest chases I've ever witnessed. Pure focus on the Puma's part. After getting knocked off every time, eyes up and focused !!
Seriously, that puma was launching herself back into action the moment she was thrown down. Her focus and drive was fierce. She was definitely not inexperienced.
That Guanaco has mastered the skill of getting the Puma off its neck
2:47 Pure and unconditional love.
2:45 that look and the kiss ... awesome.
I always root for the carnivore simply because they are so much fewer and even their breeding and survival is much less secure. *Guanaco are NOT endangered!* (neither are Puma)
Exactly
Would you like to be the prey?
Smith Saguban no we aren’t the prey and we will never be the prey
Left In Bama Unless ya know they’re hunting an endangered herbivore
@@bigv7386 you could be though.
Don't lose heart guys. This mom is more than capable of feeding her three cubs. Look they appear handsomely healthy.
Cougars can last about two weeks without food. Same for humans, generally.
@@Steves_fish They are top of the food chain in patagonia!
Puma: come here
Guanaco: *nah fam*

Everyone always gets sad when the Predator catches the prey. We can see what happens when it fails. Poor cubs.
What, let them eat grass, meat is not a necessity of life.
Truck Taxi
Pumas are obligate carnivores. While they might be able to ingest small amounts of vegetation they lack the necessary physiology required to digest it. This means their diet requires nutrients found only in animal flesh. While that might be confronting or uncomfortable for some people, it is essential and instinctual for these animals to eat meat. Without it, they will die.
@@TruckTaxiMoveIt Cats vomit when they eat plants. Will you eat carrion so you'll never have inflict pain on animals just like vultures do?
Truck Taxi I cannot stand stupidity.
Mystery Man
I don’t get sad. I almost always support predatory animals. I just don’t know who to support when predators hunt other predators.
I like the way that the Cubs tried to help. I hope that the Mother was okay.
"The mother's only hope is to go for the throat". Nice line
Not true. The mother's only hope was to immobilise the animal. Killing the Guanaco wouldn't be much of an issue for Puma.
@@LeoInterHyenaem Well no kidding... but going for the throat is the most effective way to both immobilize and kill it's prey, by cutting of air passage through the larynx.
@@lomarsweed6604 Concurred. The most effective - yes.

I searched on the Internet, the weight of the puma is 50_100 kg, I do not know if it differs according to places. The clip says 3 times the weight of the Gonak, the maximum weight is 136 kg. Maybe the mother cougar weighed 50 kg, I don't know if there is a 45 kg cougar
.Imagine that this is what Gonak did, weighing 136 kg, cougar 50 kg
I don't know why cougar fans keep saying that a cougar is able to kill a horse and sometimes an elk or even a moose haha so funny that even a wildebeest would destroy a mother and her children easily wildebeest could reach 280 kg
They weigh 190 to 280 kg (230 kg on average). Imagine what a zebra would do now, a 2200 lb bison or an 1800 lb moose.
Imagine your sandwich running away while you're trying to eat it.

The cub's cuddle at the end - Its OK mom
The hard look in the eyes of the mother - It's not OK till I find you food
2:23 got tears !! Mom ❤
The puma's determination quite remarkable. This is what hunger/the need to survive does.
SO Sad... The look she gives, at 2:49 - it's so telling.

Well thanks for the cliff hanger... 😫

Nature is cruel... We're probably better off *not* knowing what happened...
cliff hanger? where? he said he cubs wont survive but she will.
Kontract killa Do you think she puma and her cubs are still alive? I doubt it
Jordan King the videos on bbciplayer. She’s successful in catching its prey the second time round. But he mentioned the meal will only last 2-3 days. That’s nature.
2:47 so precious 🥺
The cubs trying to help is adorable
Bro Pumas literally have the face of a cheetah! It’s no wonder they’re cousins 😅, and then that was so cool that the cubs tried to help their mom! Never seen that before other than lions 😮😮😮
I know!!!!! Exactly!
I kept saying that
And cheetahs are somewhat social as well
They're actually extremely related.
Cheetahs closest living relatives are in fact Pumas. So that's a good observation there :)
I like the way the cub tries to comfort the mother
Well, they tried. The cubs comforted their mom at the end.
Bro that thing yeeted the puma everytime
After few days:
Cubs: saty back mom, now we gonna take that guanako down. You just enjoy the meal.

When they said related to camels, I knew the puma didn't have a real chance. What these animals don't have in speed, they have in POWER.
People often forgets that herbivores are dangerous too
@@ulforcemegamon3094 Dangerous only when threated.
@@siriemapantanal6894 but still dangerous, many people get too close to them becuz they think they are harmless when they are not , besides is not always true the threated one , you can enter the territory and you will piss them off , the point is that they are dangerous , and if they aren't bothering you you shouldn't bother them
Pumas are capable of taking down these animals
@@Ntwadumela89 exactly ,but is still something hard to do , that is why the puma must know when and where to attack , pumas can kill Guanacos , but Guanacos will not lose easy

Amazing footage, I've seen hundreds like this but never where the cubs actually went to help their mom! It was really cool to see that!
They’re probably starving and that’s why they helped her
@@purpleluma4715 Even so that's an extreme rarity for cubs to aid in a hunt so young. I've seen tons of hunts of cats from several species and usually the mother does the hunting fully; just an interesting thing to see.
Mom: Sorry kid , I tried and even hurt myself to bring food for you all.
Cub: Mom it's fine we will manage till you find next meal.
This is the first time I feel sympathy for a predator more than for the prey.... 😪
I always feel bad for the predator when prey gets away. I wanted that guanaco to bite the dust 😭
If you value the balance that the circle of life provides for all living things then you can always feel sympathy for both predator and prey, wishing them the best even though the idea is seemingly paradoxical.
Me too
Nope I don’t the prey just wanted to live and btw it’s the predators fault for trying to attack such a large prey

1:26 you can see the moment when she got injured. Hooves are very sharp, and the guanaco was very strong and healthy.
wow I thought she got hurt with those dry bushes but you are right. Those hooves were sharp as knives.
