Packages in Canada are terrible. TRD Off-road Manual starts at $53k, the auto is $56k and to get sway bar disconnect is bundled in an $11k package for non hybrid. Trailhunter and TRD Pro are only paired to the hybrid 🥱 and are $30-35k packages in the $51k base TRD Off-road

Seems like when the new models come out people don’t like it at first but then it grows on them. Hopefully these turbo engines hold up in the long run.
For anyone that cares, here is a good pricing comparison. I took delivery of my Tacoma in April 2023. My Tacoma is long bed, TRD Off Road with premium / advanced technology package. This package gives you a loaded interior, leather, heated seats, moon roof, etc. It also had the useless predator steps and bed step Toyota add ons. The MSRP was $48,335. Told the dealer I didn't want the add ons, so they gladly deducted the $679 for predator steps and $300 for bed step. This is in the Rochester NY area if it matters.
Ford F-150 XLT 4WD 2.7L 6cyl, 10 speed trans, quiet, smooth, less money, and over 250,000 miles on many of them. I was surprised as a past Toyota Tacoma, Tundra, Silverado owner.
Like you said, 50k and they still give you cloth seats. That’s one of the biggest issues I have with these models. Why can’t you give softex seats for a premium truck? Why does the passenger not get power seats in a 50k+ truck
Because when you multiply the extra wiring harness to run to the passenger seat times 200,000 trucks produced per year, Toyota can save themselves millions of bucks not giving you power seats. The bean counters run that company now.
@@mrnicewtf8301yeah every manufacturer is expensive but at least for that asking price they include leather, power seats, soft materials on the dash or door. That’s my issue with Toyota
Biggest deal killer to me is how terrible the back seat is. I'm not tall and you could not put anything but a small child behind me in one of these. The other midsize trucks are at least workable. I don't often have passengers but if I'm buying a 4-door, it has to be functional.

@@Jay-nc7vk you can deflect all you want. The reality is that the new Tacomas are exponentially less reliable, just like most new Toyota and Lexus products, and that's setting aside the QC issues they have with the transmission that has resulted in a class action lawsuit. I love Toyota and Lexus but their competitive edge was antiquated, tried and true drivetrains- those days are gone. Get the outgoing models while you can and let some other guy pay to beta test. If you care about reliability then you're not buying their new vehicles right now, plain and simple.
@@Slythey QC is suffering in all brands. It's matter of choice who you want to trust in a brand. Automobiles are like appliances. Not made to last forever like the "old" days. I dont mind buying new vehicles when the situation is right. I dont hold onto them forever. I never finance over 5 years and pay them faster than the life of the loan. My new 2024 Tacoma was only financed at $31,000 out of the door after the paperwork. I will have it paid off before the warranty expires. I am not worried about the truck in my situation. I had a 2019. Worst automotive vehicle ownership experience to date. The lack of QDR was astounding. I’m glad it’s someone else’s problem now. I couldn’t imagine spending more for these new ones. Maybe I’d have a different perspective if my 2019 didn’t sour my view of the product and brand. It was my first Toyota. I’m having a difficult time considering the brand again.
Ben, TFL bought their 24 Tacoma under the allocation system. Can anyone order a Tacoma using Toyota web site? Southeast Toyota Distributer only sells Tacoma under dealer allocation. Sorry to see you losing your objectivity, might have to tune out of your reviews.
For over a year I thought I would buy a Tacoma around now. But when I got serious, I bought a new Ford Ranger. Tacoma reliability is a concern with its transmission issues and the massive engine problems in Tundras. Beyond that, basic comfort items critical to my wife are power seats and dual zone heat/AC. On the Ranger those are included in a moderate priced “XLT High” package. On the Tacoma getting dual climate requires the $9,000 premium package. So my Ranger with XLT-High and FX4 off-road and turbo V6 was $45,000 while a Tacoma TRD OffRoad like this would be pushing $55,000. Game over.
When people say oh it’s garbage because made in Mexico, it’s turbo 4 bangers or whatever reason in their mind, Tacoma is still a number one midsize king. It’s all personal opinion and personal bias. I see that the ones made in the USA have the same quality issues or worst. In my opinion, no other brands can make better quality than Toyota, and last as long as Toyota. The only thing I disappointed about Tacoma is its price. That’s way too over priced.
It's not bias, it's reality from people who actually know about cars and don't pay to beta test poor QC, slop release vehicles. Toyota Mexico isn't quality. Toyota US isn't quality. Toyota Japan was quality and they're still firing out defective V35a engines for 3 model years and counting. The only Toyota worth buying is manufactured in Japan and now everyone with a brain needs to wait 2-3 more years before considering purchasing a new model Toyota or Lexus.

These trucks haven't really been around long to know how these materials will hold up over time. I'm hopeful though, as I'll be in the market for a 6th gen 4runner in a year or two to replace my 5th gen.
I managed to nab a 25 Tundra with the TRD off road pkg and convenience package for 55k OTD. The tacomas were just as expensive and made ZERO sense as to why buy a tacoma
Mileage regulations, emission regulations require massive weight reductions for ICE powered vehicles. So door and body panels are going to be very thinest lightest possible gauge. They are after all only cosmetic and do not enhance crash protection. If you need a substantial solid door closing sound you have to go back to the 1970s. When automobiles were literally tanks.
lol same I owned a 3rd gen before and I was one of those haters talking smack about it until I bought one and used it day to day. They’re also definitely better looking pickups than the other competitors by miles.
Not sure why you would have to own the product to see a company that moved manufacturing to Mexico while at the same time raising prices 20% and lowering their quality on all of their vehicles. Look at the recalls and issues with the tundra.
That “might” is the variable that keeps me away. Then you add the price. I have a 2007 FJ 164k on it but… now I see it as a Toyota with the bullet proof V-6 that you can’t get anymore so, I’ll just keep servicing it and wait to see if that “might” in reliability turns out to be “will”. If the new administration dials back the emissions/electric standards, maybe we’ll see a V-6 again 🤷♂️
These trucks are super cheap and are not worth the money! Way too much plastic, too much corner cutting on Toyota’s end, questionable engine reliability, transmission not shifting at 75 miles. I’ll take a ranger that has actual metal, a proper V6 that’s has been proven, a silky smooth 10-speed, and a Baja option that doesn’t do burnouts on your wallet. Toyota has failed. Edit: you keep talking about off-roading, but not everyone buys a midsize truck for off-roading. Take that out and this truck is god awful.
I own one. gas milage sucks, there is not storage. I went from a 20 year old gen 2. It is way nicer to drive. The tech is really nice though my gen 2 had a cd player for tech so ... I hope this holds up better than a ford ranger, we will see
I as well went from a gen 2 (2010) to a 24 Limited. Had it since July and I love it. Totally superior power train compared to the 4.0 and I have to disagree on the ride as this thing rides as smooth as butter
You can't determine reliability or durability of materials when it's less than a year old. 10 years at minimum. Truck should have softex for 50k+. Even luxury cars have all of the ammenities for the price.
Blink twice if Toyota has your family!🤣 There are enough Toyota fan boys to keep the Taco on top for a while but for others Toyota has a Colorado sized problem. The TRD off road is $15k pricier than the Trail boss and not as capable, a similar differential exists between the ZR2 and the Pro and trail hunter. If you insist on spending around $65K for a mid size truck you have the far more capable Bison option as well as the Ranger Raptor for $8K less than the latter 3. These premiums are in addition to moving Taco production to the more affordable Mexico. In UA-cam testing I’ve seen the hybrid has a very slim mog advantage over the cheaper and or more capable options from Ford and Chevrolet.
@@gtronly”afford” isn’t the problem. It’s the price adjustment of 20% with the cost lowering so much by switching manufacturing to Mexico.. what a joke.
Unfortunately Toyota destroyed the rear ergonomics. Last model had a hard plastic back then folding down the seat backs. This one doesn’t fold flat, it’s basically useless.
It used to be that the Tacoma was far and away the best mid-size P/U truck available...the other OEMs have made real progress in their design and capability at different price points. This left the new Tacoma underwhelming in comparison...it is not the leader anymore. It is coasting on the fan boys for now but that will change soon enough. I think they missed the bullseye with this truck..fixed many issues from the past but didn't nail it 100%.
Surprised of how defensive you are about this new truck. I appreciate your attempt to justify the higher price, but Toyota cut a lot of corners on this truck. I bought a certified '22 Tacoma V6 SR5 Access Cab for well under 30K (was a sweet deal), and after seeing the '24 model, I'm so glad I did. I agree with other commenters - Chevy has (shockingly) overtaken Toyota with the Colorado; it's a better value in the new truck market.
I had a 17 limited and traded it in for a new 23 off road loaded for $44k. Could have got a 24 but no way I’d trust it. Not for reliability. Plus same price, I’m only at an SR5. I’d need to drop another $10-12k to get my same truck in 24 model.
Sounds like Ben got a stern talking to and a nice check from Toyota. The plastic is flemsey but it's durable flemsey. I own a 07 tundra and very disappointed in Toyota lately. My wife drives a corrola . My SIL has a 24 tundra so far no problems.
My thought exactly. He got some kind of compensation. However, I believe UA-cam policies state you need to be upfront when you’re sponsored on a product. Not sure though.
I get that it's in your words "more capable". But for the money you are spending, people want reliability, capability is secondary. Even $46k is still too high, especially with a smaller turbo charged engine.
The new tacoma drives better, it has more power and better torque curve than the 3rd gen. Ford maverick prices has gone up by $7000, tacoma is better buy
Cheap plastic throughout, a 4 banger engine, assembled in Mexico along with an extreme price point. I love your videos Ben, but I get the feeling Toyota is trying to push their garbage through your channel. Let's call a spade a spade here, the entire Toyota lineup is a huge disappointment. I have never seen a brand become so dysfunctional in such a short period of time. To me, Toyota has basically killed their primary North American customer.
The Tacoma has always been a steep buy-in…you paid more for a Taco but you were really paying for a truck that held up and held its value over time. Reliability and resale value made the Toyota the long game in midsize trucks. With this latest generation, TMS and TMC really have the perfect storm…domestic inflation and new model price increases have made these things really expensive, especially compared to their competitors. New powertrains with initial quality problems have called into question the perception of reliability. Finally, the fact that these things are becoming increasingly lot-rocks…especially the $50-$60k ones…will force Toyota dealers to do something they really hate to do…discount prices. Pop! There goes your resale value. If TMS was smart (?) they’d stop allocating heavy numbers of heavily optioned out top end models and concentrate on making more of the lower mid-grade SR5 and TRD Sport, minus the crazy $3-5k option packages. They should also offer a better power train warranty, 5 years/60,000 miles or 8 years/100k, something like that. Then, they need to hunker down and wait out the storm. If the new Truck is really a solid reliable piece, then time will prove that and demand may come back. But, it’s going to take time and money to build back the reputation that the Tacoma’s of the past enjoyed. If you remember back to 1994-95, when the Tacoma first debuted replacing the much loved (Hilux) Pickup, there were many of the same complaints and problems. TMC just kept at it, fixing the problems and building better trucks. Thirty years later, they can do it again…if they want to.
Ben, please get your story right! These trucks are overpriced, built with very cheap materials and have poorly designed/ unreliable powertrains. Getting the use of two Toyota demonstration trucks seems to have made you to walk back your previous remarks.
I think that in time these will be really good machines. Toyota has too much riding on this powertrain for it not to be good, they own up to their mistakes and we have to believe they will with these but it just needs time
Right now the Chevy Colorado looks to be the better buy. I predict Toyota does a materials upgrade by year three of this gen if their sales and QC don’t improve.
@ cool. I’m the last thing from a GM fan. Haven’t sat or driven either the new Canyon/Colorado or Tacoma. But the GM models seem to be have less problems right now compared to the Tacoma.

I'd take the last model with the naturally aspirated 4.0L over any of these newer "tiny turbos", for the long haul. This new Taco might make for a great lease, but I won't spend that much on a purchase. Personally, that's my primary deal breaker.
Maybe it is a good truck or Toyota took Ben out to the woodshed for a spanking.
I was thinking they threatened a lawsuit.😂

Packages in Canada are terrible. TRD Off-road Manual starts at $53k, the auto is $56k and to get sway bar disconnect is bundled in an $11k package for non hybrid. Trailhunter and TRD Pro are only paired to the hybrid 🥱 and are $30-35k packages in the $51k base TRD Off-road
Gas tank is too small
50k can get a Chevy Colorado zr2. A much better deal
Then buy the Chevy. I've been finding TRD Off-road Tacoma's for $43k without the luxury options.
Not anywhere around the states I live and 43k for a off-road with nothing in it is still a absolute rip off. I got my 3rd gen TRD off road fully loaded for 42k a few years back. I have driven the 2024s and there is absolutely nothing better about it
@@kmb957nothing in the SE at that price
I'm not buying this 24 Tacoma, but I'm not buying a Chevy either! Lol
Base starts at $48k. $44k after dealer discount.
The ZR2 is definitely a better truck for a better price
Yep, big difference in 2023 than now, in 2024. 2024 is the year of high prices in all brands.
On any given day, of any given week, of any given month, anyone is eligible for “Toyotathon” discount pricing - Just ask
Ford F-150 XLT 4WD 2.7L 6cyl, 10 speed trans, quiet, smooth, less money, and over 250,000 miles on many of them. I was surprised as a past Toyota Tacoma, Tundra, Silverado owner.
Be honest.
You are becoming a copy paste like almost all other car criticts.
More like blame it on inflation that’s why everything is expensive now a days.
“Efficient” with worse mpg. That makes no sense.

The level of denial amongst these new tacoma drivers is diabolical.
You mean "denial"? You can buy a horse and buggy, take a bus, jog, or call one of us Tacoma owners for a ride. I am not giving my reviews based off a conclusion being a keyboard warrior like most do. I own the vehicle and give feedback from actual experience. Last I checked anybody that admires a specific purchase of any brand could be called a fanboy, right?
Denile is a river in Africa I believe, the Tacoma is native to the region.
@@Jay-nc7vk nothing you replied with is relevant to what I said
I've never understood why a manufacturer doesn't make a Mr Potato Head model that can have dealer or port installed options.
3rd gen with the OTT tune is still a great option
Ben, TFL bought their 24 Tacoma under the allocation system. Can anyone order a Tacoma using Toyota web site? Southeast Toyota Distributer only sells Tacoma under dealer allocation. Sorry to see you losing your objectivity, might have to tune out of your reviews.
A quick search on autotrader and you can find pretty much exactly what you want.
Game over.
Did the same thing, very happy with my Ranger.
Well said, sir.
Remember … what made the Tacoma #1 was the past models. That is ‘23 & below. Time will tell with this new ‘24 rats nest of a motor.
A Toyota was” number one. The kid who took over Toyota from his pop totally screwed the pooch across the line. Toyota is in major trouble. People who buy them now are just suffering from coping.

These trucks haven't really been around long to know how these materials will hold up over time. I'm hopeful though, as I'll be in the market for a 6th gen 4runner in a year or two to replace my 5th gen.
I think, like literally every other vehicle ever, the first couple years of a redesign will have it's bugs and get worked out eventually.
I managed to nab a 25 Tundra with the TRD off road pkg and convenience package for 55k OTD. The tacomas were just as expensive and made ZERO sense as to why buy a tacoma
Those trucks suck! GMC Denali canyon same price way nicer
the GMC denali is junk compared to the Toyota Tacoma
Mileage regulations, emission regulations require massive weight reductions for ICE powered vehicles. So door and body panels are going to be very thinest lightest possible gauge. They are after all only cosmetic and do not enhance crash protection.
If you need a substantial solid door closing sound you have to go back to the 1970s. When automobiles were literally tanks.
All the haters in the comments trying to make themselves feel better, the truck is awesome I actually own one unlike everyone else just talking
lol same I owned a 3rd gen before and I was one of those haters talking smack about it until I bought one and used it day to day. They’re also definitely better looking pickups than the other competitors by miles.
Not sure why you would have to own the product to see a company that moved manufacturing to Mexico while at the same time raising prices 20% and lowering their quality on all of their vehicles. Look at the recalls and issues with the tundra.
So anyone who points out that for the price the quality is not there anymore is a hater? Facts do hurt sometimes, I get it.

I really hope they cut the EPA entirely.
All vehicles are crap. Walking is superior
If only all the real complainers would do that......LOL....love your comment
These trucks are super cheap and are not worth the money! Way too much plastic, too much corner cutting on Toyota’s end, questionable engine reliability, transmission not shifting at 75 miles. I’ll take a ranger that has actual metal, a proper V6 that’s has been proven, a silky smooth 10-speed, and a Baja option that doesn’t do burnouts on your wallet. Toyota has failed.
Edit: you keep talking about off-roading, but not everyone buys a midsize truck for off-roading. Take that out and this truck is god awful.
I actually think it’s a huge improvement over the old one.
I own one. gas milage sucks, there is not storage.
I’m getting 24mpg consistently. You need to learn how to drive. And the new Tacoma has tons more room and rides way better than a turd gen 2 😂
You can't determine reliability or durability of materials when it's less than a year old. 10 years at minimum.
Truck should have softex for 50k+. Even luxury cars have all of the ammenities for the price.
Blink twice if Toyota has your family!🤣
There are enough Toyota fan boys to keep the Taco on top for a while but for others Toyota has a Colorado sized problem.
Drive all 3 100k check the resale. Price you paid in difference will be negated. Ford n Chevy will lose as much as you saved in resale.
All these haters are soooo jealous 😂
Nissan frontier people 🤣🤣 can't afford the new tacoma
He is getting one of those TFL sized checks now. Gotta play the game I suppose.
My thought exactly. He got some kind of compensation. However, I believe UA-cam policies state you need to be upfront when you’re sponsored on a product. Not sure though.
Zr2. Enough said.
Are you paid off, RIP Toyota, your nuts, turbo 4 garbage, it will never last
Got actual data that says the new motor will not last?
Cheap plastic throughout, a 4 banger engine, assembled in Mexico along with an extreme price point. I love your videos Ben, but I get the feeling Toyota is trying to push their garbage through your channel. Let's call a spade a spade here, the entire Toyota lineup is a huge disappointment. I have never seen a brand become so dysfunctional in such a short period of time. To me, Toyota has basically killed their primary North American customer.
2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD OFF-ROAD Package Double Cab Half Cab Long Bed 4X4!
Toyota has too much riding on this powertrain for it not to be good, they own up to their mistakes and we have to believe they will with these but it just needs time
Love these 4th gen.. 👍🏼 just to add to your comment . Turbo operates well in the cold . .
Sorry but what a boring truck and in that price range, you have to be off your rocker to feel good about it

Right now the Chevy Colorado looks to be the better buy. I predict Toyota does a materials upgrade by year three of this gen if their sales and QC don’t improve.
