Gankaku: Sweep & Submit

- This video is an extension of my previous work. In this Gankaku Kata oyo I use the third manji uke (with the spin) and the juji uke ("X" block) from the kneeling position. The application is fitting for both consensual and non-consensual violence.
We start from a closed guard. The spinning manji uke is used as a pendulum sweep once a "gift wrap" hold is established. After the sweep to technical mount, the jiji uke can be used as a "Gift Wrap" choke or an Eezekiel choke if the gift wrap is lost. Alternatively, the juji uke can be used to establish a figure 4 grip to take back control although this is more suitable to 1 v 1 consensual violence.
I would like to thank two of my jiu jitsu instructors. Courtney Pratt has helped me with the pendulum sweep with the fine details she is so good at providing. Jesse Allen taught me how to take the back using a gift wrap.

wow, that's a big one! I love it! I need to try this next session. ... Just wondering if I can adjust that on the Heian Godan template, as least JodanMorote +Jump+JujiUke => "Throw to choke" and use the same choke as shown... I will give it a try!

The juji uke in Heian Godan can definitely be used as the choke as well. Making it work after a throw may be cumbersome. The jump in Heian Godan is Seoi nage or ippon Seoi nage. Finish with a knee on belly. Getting the gift Wrap position would be cumbersome. There is a gi choke that would work but I'm not sure of the name.
Yes, agree and that's exactly what I teach for Heian5... Maybe I can isolate the arm after the throw the wrap it around the neck to apply the choke... Else I stay with my gi choke... Nevertheless I will add this choke and the application for Gangaku to my "portfolio"

Very interesting application. I saw many times juji-uke using like a choke, but never seen before this swipe between manji-uke like roll on the ground.
How you choose application to the trchnic from kata?
It's from some from historic sources, your previous teachers or using you BJJ background to create new application?
You doing great job and inspiring me to add more ground technic to our training.
I learned the pendulum sweep in BJJ. I have seen the choke in Seminars and in BJJ. I just put the two together to fit the kata. Thanks for your comment.
