Lol Thanks!
First - I always wanted to write this 😉
Thanks! Very helpful as usual for us Cubase users!
You're welcome!
Thanks for this video! I'm currently working on producing and mixing my songs myself. I would really appreciate if you could do a video in the future about mastering yourself instead of sending your mix to a mastering engineer since I am planning on doing it myself and could use a few tips on how to start as a beginner. Thank you!
Hello Isabella, here's a playlist with videos related to home mastering, one of the videos is "Simple Mastering". I will make more mastering content in the future for sure. Let me know if you have ant questions after watching this one :-) ua-cam.com/play/PLHfS_0liDLINy-gMAAlx4u4-o-E5tb-NO.html
Pro trick: watch series at Kaldrostream. I've been using it for watching lots of of movies these days.
@Crosby Lennon Definitely, have been using kaldrostream for since december myself :D
Would love to know what your using for final plugins for mastering in your stereo out
Thanks
Chris you have a video on how to make different templates?
Thank you! would you make some tutorials about mastering in the future?
Hey Rosen, check my mastering playlist, I already have some in there. ua-cam.com/play/PLHfS_0liDLINy-gMAAlx4u4-o-E5tb-NO.html
Great video! Though for some reason, I tend to think in reverse... I would call my very last fader (red one) the ST OUT, and the one where you stick the final sound altering plugins the MASTER. Maybe it's a beginner mistake for me to think like that?
If it's only a different way of naming your channels, there's no problem with that. Unless I'm missing something
Actually Chris’ template uses a kind of “pre” master bus, called ST OUT, that gets the whole sound of the project and is routed to the master bus. The reason to do so (or at least one of his reasons) is following: if you have only the master bus and want to apply some general processing to the mix (light eq or comp), this processing would be applied to a reference track, too, if you have one. On the other side, if you have this ST OUT group, you can apply your processing there and then route it to the master. So, the master bus can have only monitoring plug ins. As the reference track is routed to the master, but not to the ST OUT, the processing on ST OUT doesn’t affect it.
@@korkenknopfus Yes, you explain it well. I'm just saying that for me, it is confusing to call to have ST OUT be the 2nd last item in the chain and call the very last one MASTER. If it was up to me, I would reverse the NAMES so that the 2nd last bus is called Master where we put the limiter etc. and THEN it goes to ST OUT (with monitoring only plugins) because the ST OUT is actually the signal going OUT of the DAW. Not sure why but to me, labeling things this way makes more sense to me. The only reason I don't is so that I can follow Chris' videos without getting confused.
Marvellous, thanks Chris! But can you explain the process of how you create the Master bus and track, quickly? I presume the ST Out channel was automatically created by Cubase when creating a new project (as well as Stereo in) and you have 1. Added a new track called Master 2. Added a new output bus called Master . I tried doing point 2, and Cubase created a track called 'Master' automatically but when I tried to route my Stereo out bus to the Master it was not an option. Help please.
Great info,Very helpful as usual for us Cubase users _ sir i know that, how to use of vocals saturation in Kramer Master Tape
Here's a video I did on vocal saturation... This will give you an idea that you can then use with the Kramer ua-cam.com/video/8Kccfy4HaGs/v-deo.html
Great info.. Thanx, but hey, how did u add empty space between group channels & audio tracks? Curious
There you go my friend ua-cam.com/video/z4-SyjKCX28/v-deo.html

Thanks for the video! You mentioned compression and eq would be ok to include and send off for mastering. Would you say multiband compression would be ok as well or do you prefer to leave that for the mastering engineer?
I tend to keep Multiband Compression to the Mastering guy. I personally don't use it on my Mix buss
@@mixdownonline Thank you Chris!
Good video. How do you create stereo out bus?
You can create a Main Stereo Out by creating an Output in AUDIO Connections, that will automatically create an Bus Output on the Mix Console
Merci bcp de Verdun QC!!! \M/ Rawk On!!
YEAH! Bienvenue mon chum!
Br You are Genius like , I am your subscriber br , I am very new for Cubase It took me more than 6 months to do my first Cubase 9.5 AI vocal with Yamaha Keyboard recording with Yamaha MXU mixer. Now I like to enhance the vocal can you pls able to do one vocal enhance recording for those who are very new in Cubase Thank you
Welcome on the channel, Anton :-) I made an entire video series on mixing Vocals in Cubase ua-cam.com/play/PLHfS_0liDLINA3IGXMHEGIgU4BqpuRRHy.html Hope that helps!
@@mixdownonline Thank you I could able to get some ideas now I have some issues with recording when I add the delay I am also getting delay as feedback on music track as well why ? how I can apply delay only for vocal track if you can reach me via email as well joyofjesusmusic@gmail.com
Great video Chris!! Do you use a external mixer? I just purchased the apollo x6 with the great upgraded converters and was wondering should I record and mix in the box or should I get a external mixer so I don't lose any AD/DA conversion when I mix down my final mix to a stereo wav file? I also would like to know how do you mix down your final mix do you mix it down to a stereo wav file to your deck top? I guess I'm just looking for the best way to this. I use the MacBook pro, Apollo twin, Apollo x6, external la 610 mic preamp, Cubase 9.5 pro Thanks!!!
Hey Billy, I don't use an external mixer... With the Apollo converters, I wouldn't worry about AD/DA - DA/AD. They are good quality converters... Yes, stereo wav mix ua-cam.com/video/eI-u6_Zq7FQ/v-deo.html
@@mixdownonline Awesome Chris, Thanks so much for your response very helpful info!!!
Thnks Chris but which plugins do i go for if am dealing with my stereo out? I've seen some plugins on your stereo out.
Thanks for the vid. I need some help! Very frustrated. I am done. with my mix and I am ready to print it to a print track. When I print, it stills sounds like mono even though it's a stereo track.
I can do a in the box mix with no problem but this mix is going through a Sum mixer, bus comp, and stereo eq. I want to print it like I hear it in my monitors.
Can we play a mono sound file in stereo track and mix the project?
Hi Chris thank you for the lesson. One question . How can I make a Stereo bus? What elements do I have to keep in mind in order to create a good stereo bus?
What do you mean?
@@mixdownonline I mean what plugins are the most important to use in a stereo bus track?
Nice sounding track, Chris. Do clients ever approve the "faux limited temp mix" and then disapprove the actual master? "Demo love."
Thanks, Stephen :-) Nope, never happened ... I don't overkill the limiter when bouncing for a client.
Can I use mix buss compression and eq if I'm exporting stems for mastering? Will the compression be completely different since each stem hits the compressor individually?
Quick answer is yes, the compressor will react differently if you bounce stems. I will elaborate on a Q&A video :-)
what is the difference of master bus and stereo bus? How can I create the stereo bus?
will you show us a typical chain on your mix bus?
Sure, why not!
I've been told it's better to print rather than bouncing the project. ANy idea about that ? and how doing that in cubase
I never "Print" a mix unless I want to get out of "the box" to send my mix in a summing box or a preamp to add some color but even then, It's been a long time since I did that. I do export in Real Time since I'm using an external Bus Compressor. I don't know if there's a difference in sound when bouncing offline vs Real Time. I'll have to test it. Honestly, I would worry too much about this.
Hi there Chris, just a little query,I'm on with my mix ready for mastering,at this stage of my mix I look at the stereo main out levels an one of my stereo out master level is lower than the other,Ive got to check my individual channels to see if any of them are the cause, but is their away were you can just turn the low level the left side up to match the right side,
Cheers chris
I work with cubase 11
Hey Chris, I see that you are using bx console N. Do you like it more than UAD Neve?
I really like working with the BX Console N. Better than the old Neve from UAD but probably the same as the Neve 88RS except that on the Console N , all channels of the console is modeled which is pretty nice. Also very low on CPU. I used it across the board on my 2 last mixes and I was pretty pleased :-)
@@mixdownonline Chris, better than cla mixhub?
@@MrRuhavik Didn't try the CLA Mixhub yet
Hi do you doing track mastering?
Chris who is your go-to mastering engineer? I have tried to send out my stuff to several mastering guys (to be fair, non of them were over 50$ per track) and i was always dissapointed...i end up "mastering" my own stuff all the time and it always seems to be the best option ;) Maybe i should try someone "expensive"? I want to experience the AH! moment after getting a good master:)
Chris Graham (www.chrisgrahammastering.com/) Ian Shepherd (mastering-media.co.uk ) and Jordan Jackiew (tailormademastering.com) are my go-to Mastering engineers.
please sir show us how to master an album on cubase
☣☣☣☣
Can you please give me a sequence for mixing from scratch like a guide to follow 🙏🏽
I have Multitracks available for FREE mixdown.online/free-downloads . But if you're looking on a Mixing Guide, I'm actually working on a Mixing in Cubase Premium Course that will hopefully come out in April.
so glad i'm not the only one who sometimes mixes with a limiter on lol.
Join the club! Lol. I like to mix in a Limiter for Pop, Rock and stuff. For jazz and acoustic mellow stuff, I tend not to. I always remove the limiter before mastering though
Do folks really need to leave headroom anymore? I think that is just something left over from analog-leaning times. You just don't want to clip IMO, and the mastering engineer can just lower the volume of your mix digitally.
For sure, as far as you don't clip you're fine. But I always advise to leave headroom of around 3-5db just for protection more than anything else cause if I don't, chances are that I will receive a mix that clips a bit and that happened to me more than once ;-)
The same way the bald man combs his hair ?
