  • This arrangement of Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, BWV 147 by Bach, for Baritone Sax Trio has been adapted to be simple to perform and to understand the structure of the original work, making it suitable for various levels of musical knowledge. It can be freely played by beginner students due to the ease incorporated into the piece. Often performed at wedding ceremonies in a slow and reverent manner, this arrangement challenges the effect suggested by Bach in his original score, written for voices with trumpet, oboes, strings, and basso continuo. This is one of Bach's most beautiful cantatas, made famous by the Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring chorus. Originally composed for Advent in 1716, in Weimar, years later in Leipzig, Advent was considered tempus clausum, a period when no music was performed in churches. Bach then reworked it for the Feast of the Visitation of Mary. It is the final chorale of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. Although it is the 32nd cantata composed by Bach, among those that have survived, it was given its BWV 147 number in the complete catalog of his works.
