+SCC He made a little mistake and tried to cover it up by doing a little jazz run hahahaha. As I once remember Martin Taylor saying, "There are no mistakes in jazz guitar, only new opportunities".
Quick review of the BB45 from someone who has used it for over 2 years: You want Marshall 1987X? You like 80s hair metal tones? Do you want classic Marshall to play Zeppelin, AC/DC, Hendrix, Aerosmith, etc? Get the Bassbreaker 45. It may say Fender on the amp, but it sounds more Marshally than the Origin amps. Do you want the classic Fender cleans at high volume? Then go get a Hot Rod or something like that. The BB45 isn't it. I am amazed at how gainy the BB45 is. I am not exagerating when I say that it can do a pretty convincing 80s metal tone, specially at the full 45W. For a classic rock tone that sounds just like AC/DC you won't need to go past a third of the way up on the volume before you get there. What I also noticed is that the output knob that changes the amp's power also changes the amount of gain it can produce. I imagine that at 45W the power tubes are really working hard. But at 1W, the power tubes just don't get as hot or as much energy so they distort less, even though the output knob is supposed to make the power tubes work just as hard regardless of wattage. It's a really cool amp. Definitely not for home use, even if you stick to the 1W mode. The speakers are fine, but to my ears the tone is a little harsh out of the box. I use an external loadbox/attenuator with another 2x12 or into my interface, so that really helps the tone IMO. If I had to use the amp without attenuation, I would definitely want to put in G12Ms or G12Hs in there, and use distortion pedals for any kind of dirt. Otherwise it will be just too loud for home use. That being said, if you are gigging regularly and want a Marshall sound, this is the way to do it. I even A/B this against a DSL40CR. And the BB45 does classic Marshall way better than the really modern DSL stuff.
Bought the 18/30 today from Dawsons in Chester. I doubt if ill ever need another amp (for now). Two amps in one,and loud enough for any Gig. It looks great, and my 57 Strat ri has never sounded better.
+ArielsSmartyPants Me too. I suspect they don't have one in stock. It's still saying "pre-order" on www.andertons.co.uk/combo-amps/pid43197/cid691/fender-bassbreaker-15-1x12-guitar-amp-combo.asp
Getting very 70s Jeff Beck in that jam at the end. Funky and waspish. First demo I've seen of those amps to break away from the Fender trying to do Marshall perception.
+fossilmatic Saw the Beck comment and thought...sure...then I heard it...you nailed it! At about 30:42 I had to do a double take to make sure Jeff had not sat down with them. I usually like Peter's stuff the best, but Mick really did it this time.
yeah, these things are about 60 years behind... yet, they're worth the wait. I love that 45, but the 18/30 had some distinct character worth noting over a vox. I'd buy both in time.
More more more please luv these guys and videos can't beat a bromance like this great playing and just great fun too excellent excellent and excellent one more time 👍🏻🎸🎸🎸🍻🍻🍻
i bought the 18/30 and it is GREAT! very reliable and cuts through the mix. i have a few other amps that i occasionally run it with using a ABY pedal. mainly i use it with a 65 deluxe reissue. I also use a small 60s gibson skylark with it. i basically use the skylark like a mild overdrive/boost and they combine really well.
+Milan Cubric Second that! And also looking forward to the Vox AV series... Would also looove the Palmer Drei. But I guess that would be for far smaller market.
+Milan Cubric - the 007 combo was very disappointing to my ears. I couldn't wait to play it. I hate to say it, because I really like Fender Amps, but it sounded thin and cheap.
Great demo. Both amps sound really good. Shame that they're both 2-12's. It would be nice to have the 45 in a single 12 configuration to save my back and space in my car.
@@killybilly685 Just try it out first. I love it, but it can be noisy, and even at 1W, it's very loud. At full volume at 45W, it's magical! I have blown a couple of tubes doing that!
dudes.... why do you always turn on overdrive pedals into the amp before you examine the amps normal Distortion capabilities it's very frustrating.... I'm here to listen to how this amp sounds not how that pedal sounds
It would be way too loud , I have one of these amps and 5 volume is enough to blow out a window so no natural distortion will be heard unless its cranked. I'm sure they comment on the loudness
Jim Marshall used a Fender amp to make the first Marshall- so Fender did it too! LOL But seriously, I am totally digging this Bassbreaker amp series, I hope it sticks around for awhile.
To be clear, the 18/35's first channel isn't a Deluxe Reverb with EL84's. Perhaps a Blackface plain Deluxe, as the amp is devoid of any reverb whatsoever, and has no effects loop. If do you want reverb, you're limited to old school, out in front. but then, who needs reverb anyway ;-P
I'm still confused as to what amp is best for bedroom playing. I can't handle super loud amps, but I don't want to sacrifice too much tone by going too small. Which amp would you recommend to keep volume to a tolerable level without sacrificing too much of that thick tone? The 15, or the 45 with the intinuator? Not sure why the power control isn't on the 18/30 as well. Thanks for any advice.
In the scope of an amplifier circuit, the power tube type is of little consequence. I have a DSL15 head with 6V6 power tubes and its Marshall as the day is long. I also have a Peavey 6505MH with EL84 power tubes and its 5150 heavy as the day is long. Circuit and speakers make the most difference.
Good and accurate presentation. I own the 45, and you were spot-on with it. Even at 1 watt, it is a loud MF. I was leaning towards the 18/30, but the volume
Hey guys, what we need is a Fender Bass breaker vs Marshal Blue breaker. Two similar amps ( IN a way). Huge price difference. One hand wired and one with circuit board. How do they compare?
I'm confused by the 18/30 which seems the most versatile of the 2. Say you use channel 1 for clean and then switch to channel 2 for dirt. with only 18 watts on tap aren't you supposed to experience a drop in volume no matter how you balance both channels?
kinda bummed that the natural Distortion characteristics of these two amps in this demo we're never explored as they were in the other Anderson bassbreaker demo
Pete, Mick, how did you get the clean tones from the 45? I picked one up, thanks to this vid and the one with the JTM45. But, my sample has zero headroom. I couldn't get my Strat, with vintage pickups, above volume 4 [on the guitar] without getting drive at any amp setting. I pulled one of the 12AX7 tubes and replaced with a12AT7 which helped. But the term "loud-clean" is far from what I am hearing. Thanks for any input. Love your vids here and TPS.
You have to keep the output between 1 and 12 wats (9 o clock) and adjust the volume knobs according. The more watts you start adding, the more it will compress and start to break up. The 45 has decent clean headroom but its two EL34s. If you are looking for classic Fender 6L6 or even 6V6 cleans and lots of headroom, you bought the wrong amp. These are basically JTM50s.
Thanks for the reply Michael. I would disagree that it has anything to do with the output control. [my sample anyway]. The "gain/clean" seems to be completely regulated by the Normal and Bright volume as well as the guitar volume. Also found out using either the Normal or Bright rather than "BOTH" input increases clean range. Replacing the 12ax7 tube really helped the amp warm up and removing the back opened the sound. Again, my sample sounds much better with the simple mods. Not looking for classic Fender cleans, but because is is not an array of EL84s, I was expecting some cleans. Having written all that, I really do like the amp. When I pair it with my Deluxe Reverb in a wet/dry rig-- the two are fantastic. I agree with the JTM50 comparison or maybe a Divided by 13 LDW17/39. Again, thanks for the post.
