After seeing her in Hush I'll watch her in anything. I've also jsut started watching Midnight Mass and she's realy good in it. Not to mention The Haunting of Hill House. Hope Netlix continues to make a stuff with her.

Midnight Monologues was a bore. I was on the third episode and still clueless. So I searched for a non spoiler review. I was convinced to watch further. Unfortunate some psychopath who does “The End Explained” video, used a thumbnail that Revealed the Plot. It reads No spoilers, but Thumbnail tells you the Priest is the monster.

Underrated duo--- he's very detailed on his scripts. If you analyze the scenes and the intent behind it--- none of them were wasted. And the editing room did a fantastic job in MIDNIGHT MASS
OMG, Midnight Mass had some of the most painfully self indulgent monologuing I’ve ever seen. They killed the momentum in the final episode with her extended yammering (not against her as an actress, she’s fine. A writer and director problem). Plus the dialog was pure writer masturbation. No regular person would have spoken like she did. Both my wife and I reached for the remote to fast forward after we could tell it was going to go for a while. It was hilarious because with Netflix and the frame by frame forward we kept going “Oh, she’s done” then a couple of frames later “oh, nope, there she is”. The show had a slow and not always engaging start to a fun premise and idea and the conversion scene was great but the show felt like it was too pleased with itself at times.
Edit....Hamish Linklater was the only one who kind of pulled it off but it was due to his acting instincts and talent, not superlative writing.

@@Skoora agreed. my gf and i thought this about the first episode. i usually like mike flannigan's plots but i find his dialogue writing super weak honestly. not sure why people rave about it. i generally like his stuff though but man some of the dialogue scenes. and please no one tell me i need more patience to appreciate it or that i don't understand it. no, it's just plain not good. i think his dialogue writing is extremely inefficient, cheesy, drawn-out. if you want to see good dialogue writing of literally just 2 people talking watch scenes from a marriage, it's phenomenal

@@dusktildawn2428 I liked Midnight Mass, you're right it is excellently written. I think I preferred Hill House because of all the stacking twists and being able to see the kids before and after they grew up. It was an incredible contrast! Plus I'd already read the book, they were totally different but I think it still gave me some sort of nostalgia factor

Dulé Hill is getting more mainstream recognition. I love that!
The characters are well written and the plot was solid. I've seen many psychological horrors so FOR ME I felt the movie was overly predictable. That said, the movie still held my interest throughout the story line and had the appropriate dramatic musical overtones needed to "sell the scene". Over all I'd give it a solid 8 out of 10 because of it's plot fluidity, character charisma and musical influence.

Why 8/10 if overly predictable? Predictable movies ruin the joy of it. It’s supposed to be a surprise and a thriller!

This reminds me of False Memory by Dean Koontz. One of the most psychologically scary books I've ever read.
This is exactly what I thought. And yes - I've NEVER looked at a fork the same way after reading False Memory.
Oh yes I was just thinking of this book though I didn't remember the name of it. I've only read a few Dean Koontz books as well, another one was about a child demigod Tik Tok. Anyway what annoyed me about False Memory (spoilers) was that the doctor deliberately gave himself away, I suppose he wanted the challenge but he seemed to have no master plan after this to stop them completely unravelling everything he set up. Tik Tok was much more gripping with how the antagonist did nothing stupid or against himself and it was down to the wire.

Netflix, make a documentary about the actual real work of that hypnotherapy does too! This actually promotes fear about seeking psychotherapy.
That's the point. They create movies to drive fear so people never actually get help from methods that work and instead seek drugs which have way more "real" dangerous effects.

@@skydog106 I disagree; the film doesn’t understand hypnosis or real hypnotherapy and uses it to create a horror scenario. You would need to use drugs and CIA level mental manipulation to achieve these kinds of results. True hypnotherapy would not do this. An ethical practitioner would record your session to play back and work with the post hypnotic suggestion between appointments. That is what I do for my clients. Certified hypnotherapist here.

I've since seen almost everything she's done and you're right. She's a much better actress than Gal. I loved her in The Haunting of Hill House.

as someone who did hypnosis for 26 years, I can tell you this is as far from real as you can get. We can never "implant" a memory/suggestion and we can never make you do anything you don't actually want to do. That stuff you see on stage is people just pretending and wanting to be a part of the "act".
What hypnosis ACTUALLY is helpfully used for is relaxation and stress relief. It can also be helpful for anxiety and trying to recall memories. But that's literally about as far as it goes.
Now watch how many commenters come after this saying it did "freaky things to them".

Its a movie, art does not have to perfectly reflect reality.
To add to this, NO one can make you do anything because hypnosis only flips the usually awake concious asleep and places the subconscious at the forefront. Hypnosis is dealing with what is ALREADY there in your subconscious which, although very impressionable, cannot respond beyond what is already there. No one can make you act on what is not already within your own mind. There is no mind control. Only a fear of it.
It was okay, not too bad, not too good. I would rate it about a 6.5/10 because it wasn't boring, the music and the pace were okay. Yes, the lead actress was better than all the other cast members, but the plot could've been more intense. It's still good for those times where you want to chill at home and watch something

Hypnosis for real is AMAZING, and UA-cam is full of self-hypnosis videos. It's a good movie, but it's creating a negative and distorted image of what hypnotherapy really is :)

I love seeing Jason O'Mara show up as a bad guy. He's fine playing the good guy, I like him in everything. He made a Life on Mars remake work so he knows what he's doing as the lead of a series. He just seems to slide into that psychopath role that much easier. Not sure what that says about him. I think it's his effortless charm and cool and he can make almost any dialogue sound like the most threatening thing ever while smiling the whole time. Especially in a smaller role like in The Closer. He was only there for a couple of episodes so he could really lean into it and you're never sure what he's thinking or what he might do. Looks like an incredibly unsettling series. I look forward to watching it.

As a former street hypnotist, I'm glad people still love to see stories about hypnosis, even if it shoves hypnosis back in the mystery box a few years. My hypnotherapy training required background and criminal history on every participant in the training. If it isn't dangerous, then why does a 70 year practitioner of hypnosis do extensive research on the students, and actually turn some away? She said it's because a lot of creeps want to learn so they can manipulate women. She let me in, because I just had a history of making people bark like dogs, forget where they were, and wanted to further understand hypnosis. I haven't used regression therapy since the training, but I saw my instructor on a volunteer subject. It was like an exorcism what he was going through.

She was fantastic in midnight mass, very different than her roles in hill house or bly manor, but really gave her an opportunity to show off her acting skills. I'll have to check out Hush next.

I watched ANNE WITH AN E just randomly during quarantine time , trust me I realized that I have never seen something beautiful like this , I cried , I smiled, I learned, as a teenager I loved .... this series, and I came to know that netflix canceled season 4 , I taught only one thing touched my heart and it went away, but still now whenever I feel exhausted I watch ANNE WITH E always and every time I fall much more for these series.

Conceptually it’s interesting but realistically it’s pretty inaccurate. Hypnotism isn’t a mind control device. It can’t make someone go against their moral code. Many professional psychologists, psychiatrists, hypnotists etc have said that.
Exactly why this movie is already dumb. The expected level of disbelief going into this movie is pure nonsense.
The most unrealistic aspect of this movie is that someone her age would answer a call from an unknown number 😂
