I'm the same. I had just been playing OM-28s, HD-28s, and 000-28s in the shop I was in and thought it would be fun to play one of these. I was actually blown away by how great it was for fingertyle. It played so nicely and sounded so warm and sweet. I'm saving up for an OM-28 Re-imagined at the moment and I have the money for one of these; it takes so much self-control not to buy one.
Your reviews are spectacular, and the fact that they are SO consistent is extremely helpful. Every player has his/her own tone when they play as individuals, but when you end up playing the same songs and the same riffs, it makes it easier to note the distinct differences between each guitar you review. I do know that this process can be EXTREMELY boring, and I know it can be repetitive and annoying, but for us viewers, it really helps us gain the ability to compare and contrast each guitar to the best of our ability. I appreciate this channel a lot, and I really hope you to see more of your reviews (especially on Martin Guitars and other high-end instruments) it's difficult to make a fully informed decision in this price range, and it is very nice to get another person's opinion on instruments like this before shelling out 2 grand (or more) because you can't just experience the whole instrument in the store. So thank you so much for going about this process, it is VERY helpful to those of us who shop for higher end acoustics. P.S. Will you be doing a review of the 000-17 or 000-17e? If so, YAY! If not, PLEASE review these instruments. I'd LOVE to hear your opinions on that instrument in a video, or even in a comment if you could. I really need advice on these instruments before purchasing something this expensive. Thanks again!
Please do more reviews Tony! I love the opportunity to see and hear a variety of guitars. It helps with that disease we all have of acquiring just one more! Thanks for all you do for us Tony! The lessons, the reviews, the chats, the interviews... enjoy it all!
Awesome man, thanks for always keeping to your true theme. It really helps keeps me from driving 200 miles to hear something new from the many guitar manufacturers.
Purchased one on Reverb. Just using reviews and accolades from other Acoustic enthusiasm, purchased without ever playing one for the "feel". Love this guitar and the authentic 1930's look.
Great review!! I bought my 00L17 back in 2017 and never been disappointed with her since (had to get the binding fixed in 2019, but hey 🤷🏼♂️). Best guitar I ever played. ♥️
Glad to see your reviews again. This 00L-17 is kind of a poor man's CEO-7, which your review helped me buy. FYI: string spacing at the saddle is just as important as nut width for both finger style players and people with large hands. I suggest you also mention this spec in your reviews.
It's wonderful to see you doing guitar reviews again, Tony! You are the absolute wizard of reviews- please keep them coming!! Killer guitar also. And Dom doesn't have any more room for another guitar- therefore, it belongs to me!!! 😎
+sdas sads I love it because it fits in my quiver well. It's really light and the back is quite thin. I am rough on gear and I am a bit worried about putting a hole in it one day. But I look at guitars as tools and good guitars get better right? I love the neck at the headstock. If I could have that neck on all my acoustics I would be juiced. Action at 12th is a bit high for me but I will get a good local set up when I replace the first set of strings. The shape is absolutely killer. I looked at bunch and am really happy that I went with this size and shape. For me and my life the volume is perfect. I can play it hard and not bother the rest of the house. Funny too cause I find my self tiring to actually sing and try to you know sing. That's my spiel.
Ruckle McChuckle Hey! Thanks greatly for the information! I only had the briefest of goes on Wedensday, but as it was somebodies specially ordered in, I couldn't really do much in the time. But certainly loved what i heard, how it felt etc. I was looking at the Gibson 00L, but i'd guess with the Martin bracing this would the better model? I too play fairly hard when i want to let it ring and like tapping, percussive sounds. I also agree, its body allows for more louder play, without causing annoyance to others. Looks like it could handle a bit of slide too. The high fret action i will ask my dealer to correct i think, as he knows i too prefer it lower there. I'd not worry about putting a hole, didn't hurt Trigger any :) and yes, best tools cost a bit, but last longer and more comfortable, both are fine to require some extra money.
I bought this guitar recently to add to my collection. I put a Fishman Rare Earth Humbucking pickup in there and to me when I play live it’s almost sounding like a banjo. Not as full sounding as I wanted. Unplugged sounds a lot fuller. What’s the best pickup to better amplify the low end on this guitar?
I would like to see a review on the 00-45 or is it the 000-45? Either way I would like to see a review on it. I do enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing.
Good question, you need to do a 00L-17 - Waterloo comparison! Plug in the camera, clean the dog hair off the couch, drop a little Jameson in that coffee so we can set back and enjoy show.
I tried the Gibson L00 and then the Martin right after it. The Martin was more articulate and had better volume. The Gibson I played sounded a bit muddy to me, although they were both nice guitars I'm leaning toward the Martin.
Hi Tony!!! Great review! I was wondering if you had any thoughts as to if this was a good acoustic for worship music. I love the style and sound of this one, but I am unsure about the application. I am worried because of the lack of pickup. Any help is appreciated! I subscribed!!
Thanks for subscribing, I would definitely recommend this guitar for a live setting as it has a certain amount of focus balanced with warmth. I would certainly add a pickup, which is totally doable on any guitar that doesn't come with one. For this one I would checkout the K&K pure mini pickup as it does a great job of replicating the acoustic sound.
Hello Tony... I have the opportunity to buy one of these for the equivalent of about $1000 do you deem this guitar a good investment or are there better guitars on the market, sound wise and for the ability to hold their value? Many Thanks Adam P.s. Love your content 👍
Hey Tony hope you continue doing reviews i have bought som great guitars by checking your reviews!! please keep going and.. i would like to see a review of the gibson j100 walnut :) greatings all the way from Mexico
Hey Tony! Love your videos, they are always so informative! Can you please review the Yamaha AC3R? I'm thinking of getting one, but I'm not sure, your review would really help!
Tony, debating between this, the 0017s or a 0015m. I have an HD28 and want something a little different for live as I don’t wanna risk losing that guitar. Plus I play a lot of “folk” style stuff and I love the 00 and 0012 frets. Thoughts?
AcousticLife.tv awesome. Ya I was stuck between the 17s or the 0015 but then seeing the review threw me off more haha. I love the dark tone of the 0015 but my dream guitar is a 0028vs. The 0017s gets me as close to that as I can though haha
Philip Craig have you found an answer to your question yet? I am considering going with the 000-15 SM but now also considering this model. 2 different guitars but would love to see a direct comparison between the 2
Martin trying to emulate Gibson here....but that is cool...it has been a two way street...emulation is a form of flattery. It DOES look old, Tony....like an old Gibson blues box a la Robert Johnson...or a la Jimmie Rodgers.
Would really appreciate your help on this. So, I want to start playing and I want to get a nice Martin (that will hold value and sound amazing). I want to play acoustic (of course) and want to play Hank Jr., Waylon, George Jones, etc. I'm stuck between this and the Martin DE Black Walnut (Dreadnought). I was thinking about 00L-17 because I want a quieter guitar. Or will they both sound just as loud/quiet? All the artists use Ds so I think that would be the better choice but I still would prefer a good in between of the right sound and tone. Thanks!!!
Bruce, I think you would be surprised at how loud the 00L-17 is... the smaller guitars generally project very strongly. The main difference to my ears is the overall bass response. The dreads will have a much more robust bass sound whereas the smaller guitars are a bit more mid focused :-) Best of luck on your guitar search :-)
These videos are valuable, I think. But, they seem more like technical overviews with some nice audio samples. Anything that seems like Tony's opinion - isn't. It's just marketing copy. He "loves" EVERY guitar. And, after a while, that gets annoying.

I've been waiting for this for months! Finally Tony is back at reviews
Played one of these recently. One of my favorite Martin's I've ever played.
I'm the same. I had just been playing OM-28s, HD-28s, and 000-28s in the shop I was in and thought it would be fun to play one of these. I was actually blown away by how great it was for fingertyle. Hey Tony, you scratched right where I itched! You have the best guitar review style ever. And I love the new shiny production quality. Thank you!
Bought it. It's a fantastic guitar. Thanks for the review, helped me a lot with my decision.
TONY IS BACK! My friends and I were going to make t-shirts (or just dream about it because we're nerds) that had your face and said "Bring back Tony"
I enjoyed this video two years ago, and I am loving it now. You rock. So does the 17.
Please do more reviews Tony! I love the opportunity to see and hear a variety of guitars. It helps with that disease we all have of acquiring just one more! Thanks for all you do for us Tony! The lessons, the reviews, the chats, the interviews... enjoy it all!

Fantastic to see you review again Tony!! Greatly missed. More please!!
bought this because of your video and i havent picked up another guitar in 2 years just love it

What’s this song?
That was like a benchmark for excellence in guitar reviewing. Great stuff Tony

Derek Sutton mmm dont think so... i had the money to buy either and in the end chose the 00l17 and to this day prefer it...tone is verysubjective
Yes!!! Love the reviews.....please review some Eastman guitars please!!!
It's wonderful to see you doing guitar reviews again, Tony! You are the absolute wizard of reviews- please keep them coming!!
Killer guitar also. And Dom doesn't have any more room for another guitar- therefore, it belongs to me!!! 😎
Made my day to see you doing reviews again!
Very cool guitar! Just had the “black smoke” version walk into my store today & I didn’t want to put it down. She may need to come home with me...
hes back reviewing guitars! good to have ya back reviewing tony
Nice to hear a review with not so new strings. gives a better feel for how the highs sound.
Every guitar you play sounds awesome!! I think it’s the player!!
I always liked and still very much like your reviews - they are the best available on the web!
- So go ahead with them at least from time to time!!!
NIce!! reviews are back!! Thanks Tony!
Glad to see you back!😀
Back on the horse! Great seeing you reviewing guitars again. Please test drive the 00-17S next.
Another outstanding review oh, you are my go-to information on anything acoustic. Thanks and keep up the great work
Hi Tony, awesome to you see you doing some reviews again!! Please keep on doing them, best reviews out there.... Cheers, Leo
Just bought one in black. It will arrive Friday. Your review got me really stoked for it. It will be my step up "quality" axe.
Hey just wondered how you're getting on with the guitar? Looking at ordering one tomorrow

I just fell in love with this guitar at 3:40.
Tony's reviews are back! Finally!!!!🙏🏼
Very snappy, focused sound. Will probably really warm up in a couple of years.
I'm not sure, but did you mention what the scale length was?
Please review the Martin OOO-17!!!
He's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!
Finally, someone who knows how to review guitar welcome back. Very informative keep up the good work
I have the CEO-7 and I wish I would have bought this instead for one reason, the satin finish.
why would you want a satin finish vs a gloss one? just optics/playability or some other reason?
links to download the sheet music aren't working...Hmmm?
YAY ! Tony's BACK ! ! ! !
Toni does do a great review. And this Martin sounds very excellent indeed. Thanks
How does it compare to the Esteban Amber Ice? (which is perhaps the greatest guitar ever produced in the entire history of stringed instruments)
I was wondering if you were going to start doing the tone taxi it was cool
What’s the difference between the 0017 and 00L17 series? Thanks
I bought this guitar recently to add to my collection. I put a Fishman Rare Earth Humbucking pickup in there and to me when I play live it’s almost sounding like a banjo. LR Baggs Anthem for me.
Hi Tony, do you have the tab of what you're playing around the 4:25 mark?
did this guitar just turn in to 000 version or what? I really want to buy this 00 version with the whiskey sunset but can't find it.
I bet that guitar would sound phenomenal with a set of Martin Retro strings.
Tony excellent review, you rock! ( I'm back in the saddle again )
I'm into older guitars anymore, but I won't miss Tony P. review.
thanks
I love the dog
QUESTION. strumming, picking, and all around durability for someone who performs very often. 00017sm or 00L 17?
I want the 000- 17 Black smoke . The 00 is a bit small for me . But thanks for showing it .
K bought a Nikko model # 111 but can't find it on line so someone tell me why I can't find it online anywhere
Apart from the top wood and the modified V neck, looks like a CEO-7.
This is the guitar l want but can't find one to buy.
Are they discontinued?
Just bought this!! Thank you!
Hello Tony !
Great to see you back ! How does the Martin compares to the Waterloos ? Best wishes !
Does anyone know the name of the last song Tony was strumming? Thanks
Great review. Your dog, however, was unimpressed.
I would like to see a review on the 00-45 or is it the 000-45? Either way I would like to see a review on it. I do enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing.

Just a simple "thank you"!
Tony,
Great review today. Keep it up! You have the best presentation style. Much appreciated. -- Pecos Bill
Great video, saving up for one myself.
Tony, Good evening. Could you please review the MARTIN 00-15E RETRO? This is the guitar of my dreams.
I’m buying this guitar no matter what
And Mr. Kotter said, "Welcome Back!"
Would you recommend this over a Gibson L00? Disregarding the slight price difference do you think this out preforms it?
I tried the Gibson L00 and then the Martin right after it. The Martin was more articulate and had better volume. The Gibson I played sounded a bit muddy to me, although they were both nice guitars I'm leaning toward the Martin.

Nice box. Mmmm ..... Christmas is a way away yet.
Hello Tony... I have the opportunity to buy one of these for the equivalent of about $1000 do you deem this guitar a good investment or are there better guitars on the market, sound wise and for the ability to hold their value?
Many Thanks
Adam
P.s. Love your content 👍
Which of these three guitars would you choose? Martin 00L-17 vs Waterloo WL-14L(T Bar or truss rod) ??
Great question, for me personally I would go with the Waterloo (w/ truss rod) :-)
Hey Tony hope you continue doing reviews i have bought som great guitars by checking your reviews!! please keep going and.. i would like to see a review of the gibson j100 walnut :) greatings all the way from Mexico

Tony, I decided on a 2018 00-28. Cost twice as much but I think it will be worth it! #smallwin. Ordering next week
Anybody know what the L stands for ?
does it have a strap peg at the bottom
Yes, Martin doesn't ship their guitars with it installed so the bottom doesn't split if it gets dropped in the case.
Mine has great bass response BTW so I'm sure each one is a bit different.
How about reviewing a Ted Thompson?
More details on the giveaway please
Soft and beautiful sound.
Tonally, how would you say this compares to my 000-15SM?
Philip Craig have you found an answer to your question yet? I am considering going with the 000-15 SM but now also considering this model. 2 different guitars but would love to see a direct comparison between the 2
What does the "L" stand for?
Hi Scott, I think the model with the "L" is because 14 fret and the model with the "S" is a 12 fret guitar
That could be it, Leonel. Or could it designate a long-scale, vs. a short-scale neck?
+Scott Hunter hi Scott, all this 17s were made short scale ( I saw the details on Martins website).... They are pretty cool guitars :)
Good information; thanks, Leonel!
His tattoo on right hand looks awesome when he plays the guitar
Just love you Tony!
I missed this so so much.
Anyone know what mic that is?
Oktava Mk-012
This thing is so sweet.
Great review. Ive been lookin & think about that exact guitar.( a really laid back dog)
Does love strumming despite the small size good responsive sound ...ye its a small body still ...

I was thinking about 00L-17 because I want a quieter guitar. Or will they both sound just as loud/quiet? All the artists use Ds so I think that would be the better choice but I still would prefer a good in between of the right sound and tone. Thanks!!!

Got me this exact model... THRILLED!!!
These videos are valuable, I think. But, they seem more like technical overviews with some nice audio samples. Anything that seems like Tony's opinion - isn't. It's just marketing copy. He "loves" EVERY guitar. And, after a while, that gets annoying.
He literally plays every guitar with the same set up. Just listen and decide for yourself.
I agree. It's cool to hear different guitars playing the same songs, but in the end he wants to sell guitars. The value of a true review is in the opinion of a seasoned expert. I've never heard Tony give a negative review of anything, and I'm sure he has some negative opinions.
Great!. Thanks, Tony
Nice guitar! Reminds me of something... a G... Guild... no, that’s not it... Hmmmmmm...G... G... dang, it’s on the tip of my tongue.
Nobody is as good at Tony at review acoustic guitars!!! He's like Bob Villa was to Home Repair.
DC'd, so if you find one you need to jump. I'm looking for one right now, but they continue to rise in price
A+ review!
