Monmouth was a truly tragic figure. Misled into a futile attempt to take the throne. If he'd waited a little longer he may have benefited from James 2nd's demise & succeeded without a rebellion.
Even as much as I have learned of this battle at Sedgemoor, sources are just not clear to me just exactly who mainly won it for James II. It seems to have been the guy who later became duke of Marlborough (which I do not know much about because I am so offended by some of the earlier behavior in his life that was obviously very bad like his attitude to females and some other stuff that I cannot bring myself to learn more. I am aware he must have changed some later as a person and won some battles, but I am not an expert on the man) or some other guy called, if I am not mistaken Feversham or Faversham. Or maybe it was even someone else. This sort of thing is often clear about a battle, but with this one I cannot tell who was the commander.
Excellent piece of history I knew nothing about. Thank you.
I agree it does deserve more views and will circulate. Thanks for that Richard.
Excellent, very helpful. Thanks for posting.
Great video.
I didn't realize that the Bussex Rhine could be crossed by infantry.
