Hi, I was looking for information through the web regarding my great grandmother's surname, which is Vafiadis too. Her name was Kassiani Vafiadis, she was born in Costantinopoli (Ottoman Empire) in the 1908 and she came over in Italy (Salerno) before Turkish law of surname on the 30s. I have no more details about her, but I get two photos of her, her italian pension booklet and the death certificate. In addition I've heard some rumors that her brothers and parental descendants became hoteliers in Istanbul. I don't know if they changed surname following Turkish laws, but I suppose they did. If you check the Oriental Annuaries you will see that there are a lot of people with Vafiadis surname who are not related. ‘The Vafiadis’ side of my family is from Chios who migrated to Istanbul after the earthquake in 1880s. I would like to be related with you as i’m in a deep research for family members but i’ve never heard a story about Salerno unfortunately.
