The couple that make the stamps and textiles really spoke to me. I appreciate your dedication to all things pen, ink, paper, stationary, art and artisan. So many groovy rabbit holes to go down. Your knowledge and interest is commendable. I feel so blessed to have met you. ✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽
I need that soft/hard pencil board! Normal pencil boards are too hard to me to write on/I dont like the feeling of writing on it. That one is just ingenious!
Always amazing and interesting! One of the things I like most about the Japanese stationary (and about your showcasing them) is how deliberate and purposeful everything is. That purpose may be merely whimsical, but it's usually very useful while also being very pleasing aesthetically. Thanks
The glass pen case and the whimsical stamp set got my attention. I’m so happy you can be part of these events and share them so widely. I’ve shared this with a small Chinese American owned stationer store here in Massachusetts with hopes they can stock some of these items.
Seriously! That is the number one question I get all the time: “how do I get ___?” There is so much interest in Japanese stationery products, I would really like to see them more outside of Japan!
I noticed and appreciated the glass pen case myself. Honestly, that ought to be a rather popular item. A few years ago and I'd have jumped at buying one, but I've "made do" with my own less beautiful, but still functional version!
Aloha e Inky Rocks (A)! Great video. So many fun things at that show. Have a great time at the SF Pen Show! I regret that I won't be able to make it. School resumes at Manoa this week and it would be a long swim, as you know :). Someone should make a novel with all of these interesting characters. I can see "Death by Washi Tape" or "The Case of the Mysterious Ink Stopper" or "Murder at the Pen Show." (not that I'm hoping for anything bad to happen, of course). Have a good autumn. Hope things are cooling off in Tokyo. It was cool to meet you at Wagner a few months ago. Aloha!
As always such a well produced and informative video! You are my go to for info on new and interesting Japanese stationery. Love how you support small and local businesses 😊❤
FYI, Yamamoto Paper will sell bundles of five different stationery types with one price shipping costs to USA that’s fair, paper packets themselves much less expensive than USA retailers. Packets typically contain 50-100 sheets, I bought A4 size for letter writing.
Thanks for this informative video. It would be so much fun to go to that show. I appreciate the info to salivate over. SF is across the country from me so alas a no go but I know I'll see video from various folks.
So many interesting things there. The ink cards remind me of heat embossing images with embossing powder I do on my cards and then ink blending over it, but I never thought of using FP ink. That's a great idea and I will try it!
I am excited that I have signed up for Mr. Yamamoto‘s paper seminar. I first saw his paper boxes on one of your videos. I hope I get to see you at the SF Pen show.
This looks like so much fun...so much cool stuff! When I discovered fountain pens a few years ago, it was completely by accident. I was actually searching for nice quality notebooks. I'm feeling pretty content with my fountain pen collection at the moment, but I always get excited by good notebooks and paper, as well as all the interesting accessories and stationery doodads. Ill have to watch this video multiple times to absorb it all. 😀
@@InkyRocks So sorry that I didn't find you at the show! Was looking forward to meeting you. Next year? After a certain point, escape was the only alternative. I got one of my grail pens (Estie Maui) and then had to get out of there before anything else occurred. Hope that all went well for you and that your trip home goes smoothly. Looking forward to next videos.
@@InkyRocks I got to see you in Mike Matteson's video, so next time, I'll know who to look for. FYI, I bought two Rasa notebooks from Daryl. Thanks to your interview, I knew his mission and was happy to support it.
I was so pleased to see you on Mike Matteson’s live-stream of the SF show. I hope you had a wonderful time and will tell us all about it when you get back. I just ordered some sets of the ink cards from Yoseka and am eager to start playing with them.
That’s awesome. The best thing about them for me is that I don’t have to think too hard when making a swatch hahaha! I just realized I need to get Mike and Audrey some Japanese snacks!
I’m sure they would love that! Once a month Mike and Audrey host a live stream of snacks from Universal Yums. Some of us snack along and then all of us try to answer the trivia questions.
I love the patterned papers, used to buy similar at Paper Source, I loved them for wrapping gifts. I wish there were stores like this in the US. Why are they discontinuing Cosmo air light?? What the hell!! I don’t care for it, but a lot of people do. I still can’t understand, I still can’t get over, the whole Tomoe River thing…it makes no sense to discontinue or change something so popular, that so many people love.
Fountain pen usage of many of these papers is just a small part of these companies business. It all boils down to not making a profit. A lot more discontinuation, and different paper taking its place, is still in the future. Everything is digital, so I’m doing my part by buying waaay too much paper hahaha!
Oh, My. Gosh. I would get myself into so much trouble at that Yamamoto table. I was just at the DC show. How can I possibly excuse flying across country to SF? 😂😂😂 Such a great video. Thank you!
Today I was reading about nakaya goldfish converter, Sailormoon fountain pen, ink collab with webtoon series... And I thought that fountain pen world is more fun than I expected. At the start, I had the impression that it was a thing only for rich collectors, who are often men. It pleased me to see that more and more cute things are being made for all tastes. I saw that Yamamoto Ro-Biki the other day, and now I want to get it together with my next ink purchage! XD
I love them! Many gifts are made in China-not that I have a problem with that. But when I’m sending/giving something from Japan, I’d like for it to be made here. So those Robiki are great. And to know it was selected and put together by someone so knowledgeable about paper makes it an interesting gift!
I've missed your always fascinating videos. So much to look at here. I'll have to visit a Japanese Book & Stationary Store (Kinokuniya) 45 minutes outside of Chicago in Arlington Heights and see what they've managed to acquire.
Very interesting, thanks! 👍🏻 Some great stuff to want in that lot. I have been eyeing up the Robiki notebooks before but somehow after seeing 'Mr Yamamoto' himself using the cover too it made it way cooler 😆now I want that as well. Brilliant video and appreciate you taking time to stitch it all together for this.
Thank you! I really love his passion for paper. He is so knowledgeable. It was hilarious him telling me about the different cream colors on this one paper (aside from the other white colors after he narrowed it down to cream!)
Yay this new video full of your wonderful observations in words and pictures makes my day! Have an excellent time at the San Francisco pen show. 🎉Sounds like it will be the next best thing to a trip to Japan❤
Hi Alesa. Great information Was that an ammonite early in the video? Do you know Dale Rogers Ammonite in London? Fab mineral specimens. Wish I could come to the SF show. Enjoy!
Thank you! I was told it is a Nautilus-not as old as Ammonites? You can see other fossils inside of some of the sections. I’ll need to check out Dale Rogers!
I really enjoyed this video. So much in fact that I sent my son the info for the pen show in SF and shared this video with him. He helped me on my path to fountain pens , but he also likes unique stationery. Maybe he’ll get a chance to check it out. Im keeping my fingers crossed. 😊

thanks for the info on vendors to look for at the sf pen show! so glad you’re making videos again :)
Thank you! Say hi while you’re there-love to meet you!
Thank you for showcasing these fabulous designer’s & companies. Will definitely pester my local stationary shops to check this video out.

Lace washi paper sounds like fun!❤ Small and cute things...you can't go wrong.
Seriously! Lot of fun stuff!
Discovered the Dressco notebooks, including the onion skin version, a few years ago. Can't get enough of them.
They are awesome-sleek and elegant.
Thank you for sharing these amazing stationery items. See you at the SF Pen Show!
Awesome--please come up and say hi! Looking forward to meeting you!
