Is the concealment low enough to sneak around and scout with, or is that just asking for a real gunboat to gobble you up whole?
I'm with Tobias...z 31 is one of two things, depending how you play it, 1. either totally non-productive if you run and hide just to survive, and 2. A death trap if you try pretty much anything else...go for the z39, the T 61, or if you Really want a fun german dd boat...the ZF6.
I just unlocked the z-31 yesterday.. I'm a noob to the game - 3 weeks, but hell! I don't know what to do with it... It's so unlike any other German DD I've played so far.. I don't know stats or anything, it just feels and plays very differently.. Thankfully, this evening, I got the creds and xp to unlock Maass... Played a half dozen games in it, and I fricking love it! I keep dying miserably though :D Do you have any vids on how to Maass, with a 0 point captain and without upgrades or modules? - I spent all my creds and xp buying the ship lol. :D :D
Actually I like the Z-31 pretty much. It is a different play style. Cap contesting ist sure not her strength, but dealing damage. The DPM is not the best, but therefore you hit pretty much every shot. And someone always takes at least one Torpedo. So... Not the best teamplayer, more an ego-ship, but so are many players as well.
Reminds me of russian dd's around tier 5 and 6. Good diameter guns compared to the armor at the tier. Sit in a smoke and blap people for 3k-4k all day.
I am not going to lie as much as I hate CVs in technicality they are somewhat realistic. In terms of being able to strike anywhere while still in cover. If anything what is annoying is the unlimited amount of aircraft and the amount of passes they get in one attack. i had a German CV kill me with 5 minutes when i was in a Cruiser actively dodeging with defensiveness AA running with reinforced sector and another "AA" cruiser along side me doing the exact same as me. His drops were so bad coming in sideways with bombers but the RNG was with him and he somehow managed to hit my citadel 3 times while I was zigzagging. There's so much that needs to be changed to make it more balanced but I as much as it pains me to say it think the aircraft was a good addition to the game. I could list some of the things that WG can do to balance it but in all honesty what good would it do.

Yeah, that is what I felt while playing this thing. It is just meh. Even Gaede, the tier 6, is better than this thing. The only thing going for it is the AP damage.
Z31 is one of the worst ships in the game. It does nothing well. Bad concealment, slow turret traverse, slow reload, slow ship speed, HE is trash, torps are trash.
It's like WG took the worst characteristics from each nation's DDs and put them All on this ship.
Isn't this the DD with Tier 1 HE DPM?
I don't hate the Z-31, it just feels like trying to run a 100 meter dash with broken legs

Tell WG to buff torp speed to 55 knots.. And 90 seconds reload on them. .and reload minus 1 second on guns.. And then this thing will be fine

Z-31 has bad concealment, bad DPM, bad torps, no hydro, no speed boost. It's stillborn.

Not recommended for anyone who is still learning to play DDs. Definitely the hardest DD line to play so far
What can this thing do better than a Mahan for example? High HP pool isn't a thing to create a playstyle for...

Well yes and no. In reality a surface ship could defend against more then 3 planes :D
