So basically Satoshi was our generation's Claude Shannon? Probably wrote the white paper in his spare time, dropped it, helped maintain it for a while and walked away to tinker with other things. Great interview fascinating topic. This sounds like very interesting maths that Claude Shannon did, I know a fair bit of maths with a degree, but this is a subject I never touched upon. Its interesting Shannon did proper rigorous maths but was also something of an electrical engineering pioneer also. Sounds like a fascinating character and a real original thinker and experimenter. I will be checking out the documentary film about Shannon 'The Bit Player' - looks very interesting.

Fantastic podcast, so many interesting details on Shannon. And I basically knew none of these despite having studied computer science, I just knew how important the theory was, and of course it was taught. The bits about the founders book were also very interesting. This was a really supersized intellectual meal, thank you very much :) I'm pretty sure I'll read the Shannon book, and maybe the founders one too.
Him doing unicycles is just an extension of someone who wants to know how things work. The unicycle and juggling practice are the more visible expressions of that curiosity.
